1 gene is for color (black / brown) other for allowing color (yes/no) black + yes = black brown + yes = brown black + no = yellow with black nose brown + no = yellow with brown nose so if mother and father are both black, but they carry recessive brown hair and "no pigmentation" genes (yellow with brown nose grandparent on both sides or some combination of grandparents), on every 16 pups, there -should- be : 9 black 3 brown 3 yellow with black nose 1 yellow with brown nose

spazz is right - both mom/dad are black labs but only 1 of six was all black! it was a fun but hectic mess with 8 doggies at home for a while!

ya, Im guessing they came from the same mother, labs can have all the colors no matter wat color she is.
