I was very fortunate to work at Lyons dragstrip Wilmington California from 1969 until the last race. I worked for Carson ambulance service and we had the contract for Lyons dragstrip. I was out there every time strip was open with my partner in the ambulance at the far end of the dragstrip. I had been a drag racer for years. I became friends with some of the top names in drag racing. A lot of them are still here today and still racing but I have lost alott of Friends.
Strange ... I was under the impression that the name came specifically from the first altered wheelbase Mopar that used a loophole in the rulebooks , After NHRA ruled that you could not set the engine back , for better weight distribution . They moved the wheels forward to achieve the same effect . Then an inspector stated that the car looked funny . This video seems to have a slightly different approach as to where the name comes from . I read this in several different magazines ( Confused )
Nice. Thanks for this.
