  • i <3 the coin sounds

  • Just listening to this on headphones you can tell they put a lot of effort into stereo panning (with the sound effects shifting track L to R dynamically around the music.) Awesome

  • i play this game on xbox1 (uae) its the best platformer from amiga.

  • Not surprised it's so well loved - it has a good pedigree. Jason Perkins was previously responsible for Thing On A Spring and Monty On The Run on the C64. He was my friend's boss in the PSX/PS2 days, and because Renegade went bust shortly after the game was released, never had a copy of the final version, so I ADF'ed mine for him. ;)

  • .m68k/ecs perfection!

  • One of the best plat formers for the Amiga, period! Dont let the crappy 240p graphics fool you, it looks and and sounds even more awesome in HD! A real badass game.

  • Can't remember how many times I played through this game.

It was freakin' AWESOME and once again a testament to how good programmers were on the Amiga!

They could make that computer sing!

  • This game was freaking epic!

  • Great game , ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh amiga :)

  • I had the AGA version for the A1200, still on 2 floppies....720k x2 and makes other cart based games look crap.....longlive Amiga!!!

  • @Megadrivemalta

There was no AGA version of Ruff n Tumble

  • @cubex55

yeah your right, strange how didnt work on my 500+ and only on the A1200, tot it was aga, prolly some drive issue then :)

  • @Megadrivemalta Actually you have 2 things wrong here. Like cubex55 said, there wasn't an AGA version and the Amiga didn't use 720kb (the Atari ST did) floppy disks it used 880kb disks.

  • @Megadrivemalta Amiga formated floppies was 880 kB.

  • @Megadrivemalta There was no AGA version. This beauty was coded in ECS.

  • the kid you play as in this game kinda reminds me of Calvin from "Calvin and Hobbes"

  • For anyone who has Little Big Planet 2 and loves Ruff´n´Tumble like I do...I made a level inspired by the first level. If anyone likes it, I´ll make more levels. It´s not a remake, it´s inspired by Ruff´n´Tumble. So, play it on Little Big Planet 2!

  • fuck ya modda

  • OMG WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED OF THIS GAME !? It looks beautiful!

  • it blocked in last world could never finish it i cryied lots as a kid!

  • cool gfx, cool anims, crappy sound design and music

  • @TheConnyB Crappy sound design and music? Stay off those hard drugs, friend.

  • @Reactor10k The music doesn´t have any melody? Look how many people can hum the music from Super Mario still 20 years after it´s release.. But this? Don´t hear many people making covers of this music today :P

  • @TheConnyB So what you're saying is games would be better off with tv advert jingles? Just because some music might not sit in your head and be hummable (ie: written as a simple ditty that kids can remember) doesn't mean there's no melody. Pretty much all of the mod music scene rests on that idea.

Anyway, as far as people remembering this music, R&T isn't that well known.

  • @TheConnyB I should also add, compression doesn't help the music much in this vid. When it's crystal clear, it's a lot nicer.

  • Anybody remember the loading times for this game? It was simple amazing!

  • Amiga 500 i stos cudownych gier... To były czasy! ...jak wczasy! :)

  • Looks like a lot of fun, a highly playable game, the kind I would have loved as a boy, but which would have caused conflict between myself and my parents! "DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!"

  • i remember my amiga 600 and this gane :D and i still have amiga 400 with 8mb and sometimes play old games

  • i remember my amiga 600 and this gane :D

  • Kurwa ta gra rozpierdalała :D Chyba najlepsza grafika na amidze

  • @BurtWilson1 no, ecs

  • This right here was Amiga answer to Mario and Sonic. I may be going out on a limb here, but this is the best game I have ever played on the Amiga... I still have the disks somewhere...

The bosses were brilliant as well. Truly works of art.

  • @PsychoticVolts - shame about the sh*t sound capability of the megadrive though eh? (unlike the Amiga).

  • This is a rela masterwork. I know a lot of amiga games but that this game with this graphics, sound, and fast gameplay is possible on an amiga 500 is a real dream.

Its fast and powerful like Metal Slug !!!

thanks for this full download !!!!

  • An realy awesome game!! Looks fast and great like metal slug. A real masterwork for the amiga 500. I want to buy it....

    Thanks for upload !!!

  • This is one of the most amazing looking OCS/ECS games released for the Amiga 500. It required a 1MB Amiga 500 to run. Believe it or not this game is only 32-colours, the illusion of more colours was achieved by realtime mixing the colours with each other (making 'chessboard' with pixels) to gain new shades. Appearing late in the Amiga's life (1994), Ruff 'n' Tumble really showed what the Amiga could do with gaming in the hands of skilled coders and talented pixel artists.

  • @Chaniyth

You right!just like mayhem in monsterland for c64!

  • @elvirtnt

Oh wow, thanks for pointing that out too me, I never heard of that game. Wow, it's hard to believe a C64 could pump out so much, games later on in the C64's life really pushed the little guy too it's limits. The scrolling in that game is so smooth AND sfx + music!? EPIC WIN! I checked out some vids here on YouTube, that game absolutely stunned me. I'm gonna have to see where I can get it for my actual C64. :)

  • amazing game!

  • @PsychoticVolts Amiga released in 1985, Mega Drive released in 1989, SNES released in 1992. Making such comparisons are null and void considering the technological time line.

  • Another brilliant Amiga game.

It was games like this that made you appreciate great programmers.

This - on a A500 - sharp, clear graphics, great animation, speedy gameplay.

I want my Amiga back! :)

  • @auritone

I wish that too,i used to have Amiga 500..

  • did the demo version of this had weapon sounds?

  • Man, after seeing some of this vid, I can't wait for Ruff 'N' Tumble Remake to be done! This game makes me wish I had an Amiga back then!

  • @Yohko86

Maybe there will be a remake for NATAMI.

  • Yes, from the little bit of info I've gathered from the 'Net, the Natami looks like it's an impressive piece of tech, but what I'm talking about the the remake that's supposed to be in the works for PC. A user named shezzor uploaded some vids of it.

  • Really good Arcade Platformer. Colors are vibrant, Sound and playability are great. And look at the Graphics....Damn. This is running on Amiga 500!!! Very good coding!

  • Strange! I have no problems with scrolling or framerate on my A1200.None at all.

  • MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC! Ahh memories!

  • The finest Amiga platformer? Probably. Superb graphics, explosions galore, excellent music, brilliant, challenging gameplay (the difficulty levels is one of very few games to be perfect). Only a slightly dull last world drags it down a touch, but otherwise spot on.

  • I was fortunate enough to stumble upon this one when I was a kid. One of the best Amiga games. This game is The Shit! I mean...fuckin' hell look at the graphics. Amazing.

  • Does anyone know if it runs on Minimig and if yes, is it smooth?

  • Awesome techno rock soundtrack !

  • Looks like NeoGeo - wish it had been on that one too ^^

  • to be fair I don't think the NeoGeo is as technically advanced as it looks - I think that a lot of the time it's sheer attention to detail and polish that they put in that makes those games look so great.

I guess this game shows you can do the same on the Amiga too :)

  • Depends, had a NeoGeo emulator on my Amiga 1200 (with a 68030 turbo-board inside, though) that ran quite smooth.

But this is really stunning for an Amiga 500-game.

  • It's surprising that games in those days, especially on the amiga, were made by a group of 2 maybe up to 4 people when now they are done by a roman century.

  • Aaaaah, memories....

  • Not only the graphics, but the music in this game is fucking great too.

  • ...folks!!!this work with only 1 mb ram!!!and 6 mgz procesor!!!...and loading from only two floppy 3.5 inch disk!!!AMAZING!!!

  • i had amiga 1200 with 14mhz cpu (wikipedia)

  • but u can run thise game on Amiga 500

  • I could never get past the second level in this game :(

    thanks for uploading this.

  • Wow ..i mustve missed this one, amiga games had such personality didnt they? The good ole days :)

  • Aah..these are the games that Amiga handled best. Smooth scrolling platformers. :P

  • Daaaaaaamn, that was and still is a friggn awesome game, my all time favorite! Incredible graphics, suuuupersmooth gameplay. Let alone the music and soundeffects! Still gets me goosebumps. Thanks 4 upload! :)

  • fantastic graphics for that time..

  • Nice ive still got this original in a cupboard in good condition (maybe it'll be worth something one day:P).

  • Thanks for sharing this with us all, very much appreciated! I played the demo disk for hours on end when I was younger, was always blown away by how good it looked and sounded!

  • You are a goose!

  • nie wiem czemu ale po zniszczeniu tego duzego robota 74 40 min gra mi sie sama wyłonczała ta gra jest boska powinła być wersja na kompa

  • Thanks very much! I hoped one day this game's longplay would be posted :) I really liked it those days- awesome graphics (almost like 3d robot models), great guns, great music and it was one of the fastest loading games on Amiga :)

Gz to the coders. I always wanted to see the end of the game, I hoped there would be some short story or sth. I was a bit disappointed having seen nothing's really there. I myself managed to reach like 2nd, 3rd stage of the last world. Damn, so close...

  • Nope, surprisingly it isnt - runs on a normal A500 - they used some Realtime Palette swap tricks to get more colors.

  • @cubex55 its amazing, it looks better than several aga games. could you tell me where the music from the first couple levels is from. i swear i recognise it, its driving me nuts!

  • @zakkattakk89

    I dont know - sorry

  • @cubex55

It is called HAM ( Hold And Modify ).

    Nice Amiga tricks ;)

  • anyone knows where can iget music form Ruff 'n' Tumble ??

  • amigamusic com has it as MP3s :)

  • Err... Checked the site and didn't find anything. Can you send me a link if possible?

  • Oh youre right - looks like no one has converted it yet - in that case google for "exotica org uk" there you will find it in the oiginal format - you need deliplayer com to play it.

  • Yeah I knew that. It would be nice if someone would convert that in .mp3 format. Thanks anyway. Btw any ideas how to convert the original format to .mp3?

  • Yeah - you can record them as WAV with Deliplayer and then convert to MP3 :)

  • That solved the problem. Thanks a lot.

  • I remember this! God I spent many years trying to recall the name of this game now I finally have it :D

  • Wow, this game's soundtrack is fantastic.

  • Very smooth looking graphics! It immediately reminds me of Dan Malone's style (Chaos Engine, Speed Ball).

It's difficult to make out from watching on YouTube, but if the framerate exceeds 2 frames and is inconsistent it could be because they went for the easy way to simply redraw the entire screen each update (possible to avoid any extra overhead from drawing lots of animated pick-ups) rather than the faster and more complex method that allows you to only redraw the edges as you scroll.

  • Finally a longplay of this awesome game!

  • One of the best Amiga`s games! I remember it very well, it has been released on 2 discs, it has 4 worlds and an excellent music. Best platform/shooter on Amiga ever.

  • There is a delay between video and sound...

  • Sorry - nothing we can do about - seems the YouTube converter didnt work correctly. If you want the flawless version download it from our website - see profile :)

  • Thx :)

  • Jesus Christ, over 2 hours!

  • Yeah... It took several years for me to finish this game, heh heh heh... :)
