@ovcadva Sorry, but the differences pertain to culture. The American public wouldn't accept UFC if it was presented in the pro wrestling atmosphere that Pride was. Pride was presented as entertainment/spectacle. The UFC has to sell it self as a sport. Plus, no athletic commission (which governs American MMA rules) would EVER allow an open weight tournament. Even if they have a one night tournament, the fights would only be allowed to be one round according to the commission.

@ovcadva Thinking Pride wasn't a spectacle is delusional. The very first mainevent was Rickson Gracie against a talentless pro wrestler in Nobuhiko Takada. How is that sport-like? I also don't know many other sports that had pro wrestling matches on their show, or just fixed the outcome (Any Ogawa or Takada fight that they won). The whole stage setup was even straight out of Japanese pro wrestling. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, in fact, I love the spectacle that Pride was.
