  • It's not "Irish" it's "gaelic".

  • @CaitiVoltaire What's not Irish? I thought the song was sung by an Irish band in Irish [Gaeilge].

  • @CaitiVoltaire Actually, we speak Irish. Gaelic refers to a group of languages spoken by Gaels which we are a part of. When speaking English the correct word for our language is Irish.

  • @SonikMonsterz Yes, they are. Of note, if you didn't know, this is where Enya got her start, the band is comprised of siblings and uncles.

  • Was at Glencoe (Scottish highlands) yesterday 18/9/11 and i played this in the car and it made the scenery even more awsome.

  • dia duit maria ata orm

  • thinking of my sister ahhhhhhh brings back memory's

  • @ydom I agree with youwith wanting to speak gealic/celtic. I'mwelsh and only learned to speak that which i have now pretty much lost over the years. I think i'm going to try an re-learn. This music is so amazing and powerfull. Thank you clannad for this and other amazing songs you have written and song. Thank you. x

  • @shaggystu100 course it would this is an irish classic

  • @MatthewGen1 Clannad are Irish certainly. But I heard them being interviewed on the radio, and they said that this tune was Scottish. Not that it matters much, as the Scots and the Irish pinch each others' tunes all the time. Scotland the Brave, for example, is Irish.

  • Round the dawn, round the day?

  • "Patriot Games" with Harrison Ford as "Jack Ryan".

  • @shaggystu100 Translation: I will go East i will go West from whence the sun came. The moon and the sun will go, and the man with his reputation, will go wherever he came from.

  • being a prodestant from northern ireland, i know that the song is being sung in gaelic, it moves me & it's a lovely song

  • I wish I spoke Celtic :(

It sounds super-lyrical even in, like... daily convo

  • They helped out Volkswagen a while back, with this song in a Jetta commercial.

  • go raibh maith agat clannad

  • those are the opening lyrics to "Harry's Game"

(transl. "I will go east or west...")

  • @shaggystu100

    imtheochaidh sior e siadh...

  • 2018 this will be appropriated by Michael Bay to back slow-motion explosions and automatic weapons.

  • Gaelic....

  • @shaggystu100 Ammm there isn't an English version or an Irish version. This song is sung in gibberish - no language at all.

    :)

  • @Tehkseven4ever hmmm, it is Irish-Gaeilge. Only the sentence "fol lol the doh, fol the day" has no defined meaning in Irish.

  • yip.....that's stunning

  • a pure love this song i want to hear it at the gates of heaven.

  • Ya know, I'm over here in the US, of recent German and "Hunky" heritage, and can't for the life of me figure out why you Scots and Irish would be arguing.

Nevertheless, I absolutely LOVE this music, which, oddly enough, introduced me to early U2 (which has since changed).

    Peace to all.

  • @MattWhatsGoinOn Where did you get the idea that the irish and scots argue? I myself am Irish and never experienced any arguing between the scots and the irish.

  • @irishalltheway960 Perhaps I misinterpreted, but look at the comment two previous to mine and READ.

  • @irishalltheway960 : Only over who makes the best whiskey, which would be the Scots by far... :)

  • @bear83706 well the drink is a personal taste!

  • What a beautiful, haunting tune. Can listen to it over and again!

  • One of the most amazing songs ever in history.

  • Chicane!

  • @AeonFlexMusic I am not even Irish and thats a massive insult. Like celtic music needs a poor remix.

  • @SymonDymond Sorry mate, there's nothing I can do about your sensitivity, cheers

  • robotshowdown am in da highlands and it is so, a home from home but r not clannad irish? peace

  • @smmeegal Clannad are from Co Donegal in Ireland, from the parish of Gaoth Dobhair (Gweedore). Whenever I'm over in Cloch Cheann Fhaola (Cloughaneely), the neighbouring parish, my mum has "Highland Radio" on in the kitchen and the car. Think that might mean the north of Donegal fancies itself as the Irish highalnds... :-D

  • Sends a shiver down my spine. Wonderfull

  • Some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard

  • This song always makes me think of the highlands

  • @Robotshowdown747 it reminds me of being up in the west of Scotland. Love it :) and i am 17 hahah :D

  • My favourite calming song works every time mystical and ethereal xb

  • The anime is better

  • Such beautiful music.

  • Nob

  • Truely haunting a special song

  • Translation I will go east and go west [To the places] from whence came The moon and the sun The moon and the sun will go And the young man With his reputation behind him I will go wherever he came from - The young man with his reputation behind him
  • mark loves this x

  • This song is just heavenly.

  • I can see why this song made Clannad go viral.

  • NO COMMENT.....SO GREAT <3!

  • i love celtic, galic new age and........... everything about this song! is that so wrong? alot of my friends would be all like "whut the crap is wrong with u? O.o" it is very rare for a kid my age to love music like this! i guess it is a shock because of my hyper personality, and dark humor.... he he he

  • @wolfclaw98sc rare? aren't you special. What a load of egotistical non-sense. Me this, me that, me this...

  • @Ivantheterrible666 thank you for saying that. ^-^

  • super

  • o-o i only new of the anime

  • @randomretardedpeanut And when I heard of the anime, I thought of these guys :-). There is some link between the 2. I think the producer of the anime heard of the band, and (mistakenly) thought that "Clannad" meant "family". (It's actually just "Clann". "Clannad" is short for "Clann As Dobhar", which is Irish for "Family from Dore".)

  • his version is better than when they sing it live.

  • i love this song . well done clannad x

  • Patriot Games

  • U2 used this song at the beginning of their "Under a Blood Red Sky...Live at Red Rocks" CD.

  • @GarryHarriman peace everywhere but prosperity in 32 counties

  • @fenderred1

It's because it brings emotion that you cannot describe and didn't know you felt until you heard this music. That's your soul spreading it's wings.

  • @Piicasa what a beautiful way to express the effect of the music

  • Love this track, love Maire Brennan voice....great band

  • I dont know what it was with Harry's Game, but watched it as a 8-9 years old, and it put a clearly mark in my mind when i hear this song. This series by the way created a lifelong interest in the aspects of the conflict in northern ireland.

  • I still remember the first time I heard this song on some (US) car commercial when I was like 10 or something (it was the early-mid 90s) and I went CRAZY,. Then I freaked out when I heard it again in Patriot Games. I annoyed my parents until they finally broke down and hooked me up with the cd. love it.

  • @fenderred1 There is undoubtedly a certain mystery around this song. I know what you mean about the air from your lungs - I sometimes listen to it and have to catch my breath (while the tears well)

  • @jhr459 - I know exactly what you mean.. I was just trying to find a way to say it.

  • Hauntingly beautiful... like everything else Irish....!

  • This brings back memories :) Clannad (and uh, Duran Duran lol) were the first artists I ever liked. And nowadays I listen to (upbeat) hardstyle like Brennan Heart and Activator somehow...

  • Wonderful and always mystical and haunting. First song I ever heard by Clannad when U2 used it for the UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY video credits. Many more people should have listened to Clannad at their peak.

  • wasnt this or part of this not used in car manufacture ie ford mondeo or rover?

or have I heard this somewhere else???? ideas

  • @38wd the song was used in a VW car commercial.

  • @jnwmom cheers thanks I was sure it was a car manufacture

  • The chorus is a lullaby, it has no meaning as such.

The singer is Enya's sister and I think one or two of the guys are brothers of them. Love this song so peaceful and calming. I am Irish btw!
