I still get pissed off every time I see this movie!!! Why, WHY aren't Stillwater a real band with nine albums to their name????? Pisses me off like nothing else.....
Somebody please tell me if that is really Jason Lee singing??? If so, my Lord - did he ever miss his calling? What a great voice!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie!!!
@SunnyValeTP1 - Sadly, no. Marti Frederiksen (songwriter, record producer, and musician). provided the lead singing vocals for Jason Lee as Jeff Bebe. Jason Lee's actual voice is heard singing the song "Cover of the Rolling Stone" when Bebe learns Stillwater will be on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Lee also said he emulated moves of Paul Rodgers of Free and Bad Company
To end all the debate about who the actual singer is and whether it's Frampton (which it's not): it's Marti Fredericksen. He's a major record producer/songwriter who's worked with a lot of the biggest rock and pop acts. He co-wrote the Stillwater songs with Frampton, the Wilson sisters, and Crowe.
@Greideras This band, with Jason Lee and Billy Crudup from the MOVIE Almost Famous, is fictional. Yes, I know there was a real band from the 70s called Stillwater, but this is not the same band.
I know, just wanted to make it clear that the name aint fictional, the movie is about the actual band, thought of course they are using a different cast :p
Anyone have any idea what organ he's playing the intro/outro on..? It looks like a Rhodes Mark I Stage Piano w/a set list taped to the top of it, but I'm not entirely certain...
how do yall know it is frampton singing, i couldnt find that anywhere and i am a almost famous fanatic, watched the commentary version????? it doesnt sound like him at all????
This film IS rock n' roll. Captures the mood of the movement perfectly-well done Cameron Crowe. I only wish Stillwater were a real band (I know there's an actual Stillwater, and I love them too, but I want to go to THIS band's concert, damn it!)
@warriorofwrestling Yeah I totally agree, awesome movie, really catchs the "vibe" of 70's rock n roll. I recomend watching The Runaways, it's an awesome movie too
@funnyking95 lol, it took me ages and it wasnt until my lead guitarist came round we finally got it, its so simple and you need something else to fill with or it sounds shite, but ill tab it up and send it to you, we just imp the solo, it honestly sounds boring with just chords tho i was waiting for your reply to it tho
@AntVenom No they dint play this them selves. Dont even think Jason Lee can sing. Anyhow if he could you can hear that its not his voice. And Billy Crudup isnt playing the guitar lines either.
But if it were in fact they who played, the badn would be awesome to se live. This kind of music is hard to find these days.
@AntVenom are you sure it was, i heard it was all put on and the band were
Peter Frampton
Mike McCready
Jon Bayless
Ben Smith
Gordon Kennedy
Marti Frederiksen – vocals
frampton was from humble pie but the others are, i believe session musicians, marti has written loadsof music and is one of the boneyard boys along with Mark Hudson, Steven Tyler, and Joe Perry, I dont think anyone actually really played an instrument in stillwater
the songs in the movie that are by Stillwater are based off of actual late 60's early 70's rock songs. this one is based off of Bad company's song "bad company." Fever dog is a led zepellin song. Really cool idea for the movie.
Does anyone know if "Earl" is really singing? Seems like he is but it's a movie and it's supposed to be believable, so I'm not really sure. Just curious
@redskullz124 no her and her sister ann and cameron wrote this, Love Thing, fever Dog and chance upon you Frampton wrote Hour Of Need and You Had To Be there the other two songs stilwater does
I think Simmons has a valid argument with this movie being the best of the 00's. However, "The Dark Knight" is going to win that poll on ESPN, and it should. Still, I think "Almost Famous" is way underrated. (That's MIke McCready playing the lead guitar on all of the tracks for Stillwater.)
Glad Simmons brought this back up.......I had forgetten how much I like this movie. I watched it sooooooo much when it first came to DVD I got burnt out on it.
Simmons. The biggest problem with this movie is that the band in it isn't that good. It's a minor problem, though, and not one they really could have done anything about. Still a great movie.
Marti Frederiksen provided the lead singing vocals for Jason Lee as Jeff Bebe. We do, however, hear Jason Lee's actual voice singing the song "Cover of the Rolling Stone" when Jeff Bebe learns that Stillwater will make the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
If you look at the song credits after the movie you will see that the actors are credited as the "performers". They are all singing and playing their instruments.
Billy Crudup was given extensive lessons by Peter Frampton for the movie, I think as far i remember seeing /reading all band members attended a pre-filming "rock school" for a couple of months before principal shooting began.
what's that song they play in the scene where it shifts between like 3 or 4 songs of theres at this concert, it's the 2nd one I think. It plays part of this song then shifts to a song with some heavy guitar riffs
yea same, I think Jason is actually singing, his lip syncs is to exact for it not to be, sounds like his voice to.buuuut, I dont think the lead guitarist is playing, you can tell he has been taught, some finger tech's from the film pro's..:)
Unfortunately, he's not really singing. On the behind-the-scenes stuff on the DVD, during filming he's actually lip-syncing to Nancy Wilson's voice (the film's composer and former Heart musician... and Cameron Crowe's wife). They brought it someone afterward to be Jason Lee's voice.
this is totally awesome! :)
