  • Ue scugnizze grazie!

Grazie ancora.

I've been around the world but Sorrento & Naples are the most beautiful you could ever see.

  • @RUDEGOOD thanks

  • Hi ! Your video is wonderful! Please see my version! :)

  • Beautiful song, and a beautiful place. We were there last summer, and on a Monday afternoon, they decided to close off the main street to traffic, so that everyone could be out walking on the main street. Most of the people out that afternoon were not tourists, but locals. What a great way to live.

  • non posso fare ameno di commuovermi ogni volta nell'ascoltare questa canzone e pensare alle meraviglie della mia città,unica al mondo in tutto e x tutto!!!!!sono troppo commossa!

  • Exelente!

  • Dinto u cuore se ne va....

  • so beautiful...

  • Yes sung by Gigli, written by Caruso.

It will be very hard to fight back tears at a funeral, even more so with this song.

  • @schunizze No Written by de Curtis. sung by Gigli.

  • @schunizze It was written by G Battista De Curtis, and composed by his brother Ernesto de Curtis, in 1904. Caruso regretfully never recorded this song...He spent his last days in Albergo Vittoria, a beautiful hotel in Surriento.

  • Are you sure this is Caruso? It sounds like Gigli.

Either way, my mother is dying. She sang this on the night she met Dad in 1936. They agreed to marry 2 weeks later.

This is my Mum's song and will be played at her funeral. Thanks for this superlative version.

  • the song was written by de curtis

  • Superbe!

    Incredible music!

    Thank for posting.

  • Excellent...not sure it is Caruso 'though

  • It's Gigli.

  • Beautiful video.

  • I was in Sorrento last September (2007) and this is the most beautiful place in Italy

  • god..so pretty!

  • Masterpiece!

  • Ke vuoi di piu??Bellissima musica e bellissimo posto...ke meraviglia.......

  • I miss Sorrento. Went there for my honeymoon 10 years ago and put my own video together, but whoever is singing this version is great, love your video

  • Even tho I was born in Lancashire, my parents are both napuletane...this song makes me cry and I know that the sun and sea are in my blood and soul - oh to feel that hot sun on my skin and see Vesuvio.

  • It is a magical lure, that is feeling like you are in paradise.

  • Love Sorrento - brilliant place which gets into your blood!

  • I am trying to talk Sonny Sorrento into writing a guitar tune for this great town. He can be seen on The Lost Gibson on this site. If he does, I'll post it on this page.

  • Bellissime foto e ottima musica!

  • looks an oasis i one day hope 2 buy a house in italy on a beach or south of france these places are lovely

  • e questa mandolina bellisima questa napoletana

  • Per ty!

  • It's fantastic to see how much Sorrento is appreciated by tourists from all over the world. I live and I have always lived here. Compliments for the video!

  • A heartfelt contribution to YouTube. Grazie.

  • The great caruso, Pavarotti, are all great opera singers but for me no one can touch Mario Lanza, i am a musician and my family are from Napoli, It is the passion in his voice and proper Neapolitan dialect that makes Mario for me untouchable when he sings. It is from the heart that touches peoples souls.

  • Paesano ! Yes yes Mario Lanza is a legend too.

  • It can't get any better than this!! Lovely. Thanks.

  • Grazie Leanne. It pleases me to see that people love my hometown, in which i am very proud...

  • You should be proud. I love the whole of Italy so much. I want to go there more than anywhere, and also maybe Israel. I love Pavarotti, the food, the people so warm, the landscape and its color, the water ways, on and on I could go. Thanks for replying.

  • Beautiful...Bello :)

  • after all, it is a love song and, who can sing it better than a cruner like Dean!

  • Its actually not a love song from one person to another, its a song of a man who had to leave his home town Sorrento, and is talking of the beautiful things about Sorrento. The sea, the oromas in the air, everything that is characteristically Sorrento.

  • after all, it is a love song and, who can sing it better than a cruner like Dean!

  • I don't know about you but........

I still think Dean Martin's version is the best one by farrrrrrr

    :-)

It is like.....this song isn't quite to be sang in Opera.

  • Caruso wrote it i think, and then Gigli sang this version.

  • It was written by the DeCurtis brothers and made famous by Caruso. I believe this singer is Beniamino Gigli also, because the recording tecnique is electric and not acoustic, as in Caruso's day. Gigli's heyday was the late '20's--'30's which seems to be the time of this recording. It is interesting that Gigli was Marchegiano, not Napolitano, yet this version is often given as an example of a real Naples performance. Opera singers are masters of language and dialect!

  • who is the singer of this version please?... I agree with a previous comment - versions by pavarotti and co. are good but sound more as it were a opera piece and not folk song as here. thanks.

  • I believe it to be Beniamino Gigli.

  • My husband and I were in Sorrento for a week this fall. It is a fabulous place. I am still inspired by its beauty. It was a trip that dreams are made of. Thanks Sorrento!

  • simply the best!

  • oh God! Thanks so much for posting this. This IS the version that I heard when I was little from my dad's collection, but it got lost while we moved. Pavarotti and others sang it too, but for some reasons it is not as touching as this one.

  • i feel left our...you ppl are all married...

  • The photos are absolutely beautiful. Someday, hopefully soon, I'm going to take my my wife, sons and daughter to Sorrento.

I'm a 64 year old man and my Pop is 90. We have a very Italian orientated family. When I was just a young child, on Christmas Eve, my Pop would sing this version to my Grandmother and she would cry from joy. I'll never forget the holidays and the family.

  • I hope you do one day come back to Sorrento. It is a timeless place. The other day i went to my Dads house, and he showed me a black and white photo of a particular area in the main piazza that i recognized well, it was the shop of a friend of mine by the taxi stand. It was in the early 60's. It seamed very beautiful to me to see a black and white photo of La piazza.

  • We got married in Positano just round the coast from sorrento and the two places are just beyond belief. If the lord had a base on earth he would make it here.

    mick , Scotland

  • I'm going there in 2 weeks for part of my honeymoon. I will be touring Italy, but spending 10 days at home in Sorrento. I can't wait. Ti amo Sorrento mio.

  • What a beautiful place! Now I feel like pizza :P

  • This is beautiful, brings back happy memories of my holiday to wonderful sorrento....thanks for posting it.

  • I almost shed tears watching these photos. I've been to Sorrento for the first time last year, and this song kept playing in my head as I watched the beautiful scenery surrounding the lovely town. Thank for for posting this touching video!

  • this is beautifull - i only wish i could take this with me to prove how beautifull sorrento really is -

  • I'm glad you liked it. I took all the photo's. I can't stop taking them when i am there. If you like it that much you can email your address to me, and i can post you a disc with the fullsreen, clearer version. slymik@h0tmail.c0m
