Regrettably, I grew up with Terminator 2 before I ever saw the first. The stop motion makes such an effective scene. It really does move like a cold-calculating machine that's been injured. The close up on its eyes as it refocuses its lens is just such a great detail.
Hey Everybody! I have just released my new album 'Unhinged' which is greatly inspired by Brad Fiedel's soundtrack work in the Terminator series. You can stream or download the full album for free on my youtube channel!
real robotics and great pupperteering make classics like evil dead poltergeist freddy jason american warewolf and etc shit shit na mean and they try to do remakes yea right leave it alone or be origanal and do the old stuff one last time
The problem with CG is that it's too sleak and smooth. There's no grit, no presence and no charm. The combination of stop motion and puppetry make the terminator feel real and truly scary as it's movements are just like how a machine would move.
I thought this movie was sooooooooooooooo scary when i saw it, and I think the same now! Eew, they are so scary, but so interesting at the same time! :O :D
I love practical effects. However, the CG in Rise Of The Planet Of The apes was amazing. I'm sorry, but the CG showed so much emotion, it was amazingly realistic. But it still doesn't beat the classic original. But the practical effects in Terminator were amazing, purely amazing.
I think this terminator looks scary in stop motion becvause the unnatural jerkiness inevitably caused by stop motion makes it seem unnatural. CGI is too refined to work for The terminator because if flows too smoothly.
I saw this in early 90's.. ooyes! Small kid back then. Many hours with Terminator : ) And im with u other guys about the stopmotion, it's a whole different perspective and feeling just looking on that metal-fucker! 0:16 - 0:24 WOW! just got'a love the scene.
I pity the new generation who think CGI is the shit. No modern day CGI can even come close to the terrifying Terminator robot, or the monsters in the Thing, or the zombies in the original Dawn of the dead. The youth have been brainwashed in thinking film-making has advanced when in reality it is deteriorating. So sad :(
For a production team that had virtually no money, were on a very tight budget they made a damn good film with tremendous realistic looking special effects. They should of left Terminator alone after the second one 3 was OK but salvation was crap!!
If you pause at exactly 1:28, it is not reese, its his stunt double, it is ony a flash like a 1/4 of a second so it may take a while to pause at his face...
After it came out on VHS. I remember in kindergarten mimicking the limp and robotic head movements. Freaked out my teacher and classmates. Ahh~ good stuff.
I think CGI is a good thing but when cutting things like blood on the terminator or any horror movie, it should be like some plastic kind of thing, u know like those wierd pranking toys
@TheRitchardgaleHater Depends on how much work they put into it, I guess. The stop motion robot looks fake and dumb, while the CGI robots look fine. The CGI Arnold looks fake and dumb, though, while the fake Arnold cutting himself open in front of the mirror looks fine.
@eyescreamcake Yeah, but I'd still choose this over CGI, CGI just looks like something that doesn't exist in the move, like you can't touch it, using real puppets and non-CGI stuff looks better in my opinion and I'd choose it over CGI any day
@yurtubsuks I totally agree! - Sorry I realise this is an old comment, but omg, I watched this one and compared it to Terminator 2 (even though its epic) and 3, this one scares the shit out of me, even though it's the oldest and should be less scary O_o...
@GodzillaFan64 I don't agree. This scene is scary because James Cameron made it amazingly well. Terminator Salvation wasn't as scary because MCG has downs. Besides, that one few-second clip where a T600 grabs John Connor at the crashed helicopter scared the shit out of me.
The stopmotion Cyclops from Sinbad was terrifying when I was a kid. It just makes them look so uncanny. Like they're real but not quite. CGI however just looks fake.
Fell down the stairs after as the pipe-bomb went off and blew the Terminator in half, either got hit by shrapnel (his face is pretty bloody afterwards) or broke his neck in the fall.
@Cpnowys1awsome he got shot earlier, bitch slapped twice by arnie and then got hit by his own bomb right there being a couple of steps away near the explosion
The sound of the terminators in salvation sound cool, the clanking of the gears inside. But I think they should have kept the sound of this terminator in all films. It just sounds more robotic.
@stanleythedoogle no...model 101 means 101st terminator in a production... if you watch both movies carefully youll notice that in a first movie Reese sayed that these terminators were new...so there was only 101 made in total at the moment when resistance got in to the factory.. book says that John Connor chose the last one - 101st for sending in to the past. That means that first T-800 was something from 1 to 100. Most likely 100... because Skynet was sending them at the very last moment.
just funny how a self-built grenade can blow this T-800 up, or how even a shotgun can make it stagger backwards/ fly through a window/ fall down, but three rounds of a grenade launcher in Terminator - Salvation do nothing but to burn its skin off...
oh, and why didn´t the T-800 explode? Doesn´t the one out of T - 3 have two highly explosive fusion reactors or something like that inside? And this one is being squished by a mechanical press and just... well, stops working.
@juki009 Well, as far as I´m aware, comments on youtube are meant to be your thoughts / your opinion about the content of the video you are commenting, so I do not see any trouble with what I said. If I look at it from a logical point than what is wrong about that? It´s not that I want to decry the Terminator movies; in fact, I watched all four films and mostly liked them. So please refrain from calling me (or anybody else) a fool because of that.
@icebreakersix1nine If you look at this left leg, you see that the rod for the calf hydraulic piston is disconnected. It got damaged when he got ran over by an 18 wheeler and its leg got caught near the drive shaft of the tractor.
I wish the T-800 lived.....if it were a T-700 or T-600 I don't really care.....yes,I can tell the difference from T-700 and T-800.It's really simple.It's only that T-800 is silver and T-700 is black.
