They did exactly what they meant to when they made this album. Some of the songs are ok, but only ok, and only in small doses. The problem isn't that the music flat sucks (which for the most part it does)... just that it sucks way more compared to what metallica is capable of. Never would have happened with Mustaine in the band... imagine telling that guy you want him to do a foghorn shit noise rather than solo.

I much prefer this natural raw sound on this album, compared to say, Disturbed's last couple albums, which are overproduced and sound phony. Too many new bands over produce their albums, then when they play live it sounds terrible. Metallica has never over produced their albums in my opinion.

A lot of St Anger is pretty bad, but some tracks (this included) were really cool. It still sounds edgy. They should have pushed further in this direction. Death Magnetic imo was a piece of shit. Trying to recapture previous glory is a failure of ideas. The only track that stood out for me was All nightmare long, and suprise, that was left over from St Anger. Forget the past guys, forward is the best path!

Not to mention the fact that I have a good amount of german in me as is. I wanted to learn a bit more about where my ancestors came from and learn the language they spoke.
