Well, it's an interesting thing. But 4,000 dollars! I don't think so. I mean, I don't mind putting out that kind of money on good guitar, or amp, but I'm able to do my own tuning and prefer keeping things simple. Hats off to Gibson, though. Always thinking and trying to come up with something new.
Instead of whining lake a baby with a slapped arse, why don't you moaning old ladies care to look at what this guitar actually does & how it works before commenting? There is no digital modeling here at all- every sound is achieved using a combination and blend of the different pickups on the guitar. That's completely revolutionary, as is the tuning mechanism, whether you like it or not. It's called PROGRESS. Well done Gibson for thinking outside the box and making good use of modern technology
i think the looks are killer. the flying v wasn't well received when it first came out either and now how many people do you see playing one? same with the explorer style. i'm a bass player, and if there was a bass that looked like that i would own one for sure. who wants to look like everyone else?
Ugggghhhh! Who would want to play a guitar that looks like that? That is truly the ugliest guitar I've ever seen in my life. And for the record, I'm a Les Paul aficionado! I'm embarassed for Gibson. What the hell are those position markers? Why oh why don't they invest in making meticulously good Pauls like they did in '59-'60? Ughh, the inside of the case. I really hate this. That silly tuning gizmo doesn't save this guitar. That chrome moon pickguard, uggh. I don't like the Darkfire either.
Well, they could have used a more adept player to demonstrate its unique capabilities, but the interesting thing to me is that at $4128, it's not much more expensive than a straight Les Paul Custom.
I don't like it because it has a sort of Les Paul shape and bears the Les Paul name. NOT because i can't afford one. I wouldn't want a guitar that sounds like anything you want, I'd rather have a guitar with one sound, just a simple piece of wood and metal, no computer stuff.
@lk101010 that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard! how could anyone not want to make their sound perfect? that is why they have done this, with this guitar you customize it so that it taylors perfectly to your guitar playing wants and needs, this is the future of guitars so you might as well except it
@JakeTheHippy If you want to play it, go ahead. Have fun with it. But please keep it out of my hands. I simply like it the old way. It's like modeling amps, not everyone likes em, some people love em. So do whatever pleases you, I'm not into this type of guitar.
i don't understand why they would make this guitar. is it for lazy people? you should be able to tune to an open tuning with your ear. wow, things are just getting stupid.
by the time it took to chage, most guitarist would have done it in the same time.
@lipfishin Hey Dorkus, I know you posted over a month ago and probably will never get to read this reply (which incidentally comes from a professional muso) - but let me educate you anyway. The ability to play in different tunings (and I don't mean just tuning down a step) is a godsend for working musos who play more than standard schlock. I get through 4 tunings in an evening. Yes ... I could do it by ear - even in a noisy bar. But it would piss off punters. JImmy Page has a Dark Fire ...

btw, if anyone wants a versatile and really good sounding guitar with tons of sounds and piezo and tunings and shit for quarter of a gibson price - go get a Variax, much much better choice!
Hmm, I would strongly have to disagree with you. I can't compare it to a Gibson, since I have never owned one. But I did own a Variax 600 and I wasn't pleased with it at all. It kinda modulates the different tones from different guitars, and it sound pretty okay. But because the Variax has so many option to choose from, it isn't really good at one particular modulations.
I have never been a big fan of the line 6 modulations, especially their guitars.
there's good instruments, there's bad instruments and then there's great instruments. if it's bad age will make it worse, if it's good age just might make it a little better, only if it's great does it become greater in time.
a crappy old guitar is just a crappy guitar and no time in the world can change that.
Why are you an apologist for the the look of this thing? "IF you can put up with how it looks... bleh. " Why can't Gibson just offer the guts of this thing and let people bolt them into their favorite Les Pauls or 335s or SGs or whatever. Wouldn't that make a lot more sense (Henry - Gibson CEO) ?
this guitar rocks because of all these robotic stuff on it! i think gibson is the best brand ever and even if this guitar is kinda ugly im pretty sure it sounds amazing and that`s what matters! xD
I don't think that that is what 'customisable' means...To me it means that if you want you can change any parts - pickups, tuners, hardware. I think he means adjustable.
the quality of gibson guitars is getting worser. I've tried gibsons every year for the past 4 years and i've owned a les paul my self and compared it to older gibson (80's , 90's , 70's ). its just getting worser.
@25jonathan this is because a newer guitar will ALWAYS sound worse than an older one, its all about age, thats why the old guitars sound so much better
@Yonktech That's a gross generalization. I have "old" guitars - some name brand - that are terrible, and new guitars - some you've never heard of - that are awesome. Not all old stuff is good. Some of the most expensive Les Pauls and Strats are actually terrible to play. Don't get sucked into the "older is better" foolishness.
I believe the next edition will include a robotic arm with a polishing cloth and cleaning can be done on the fly by the push of a knob and a twist. Simply twist the knob for various wiping speeds, and lemon oil squirts!
automatic tuning is okay i think....but all the customizations, the different tones and stuff..its too artificial. a guitar has its own sound. thats what makes a guitar a great guitar, cuz everyone likes a special sound. i dont need a guitar which can simulate them all. there are so many players playing a Les Paul cuz they like its sound. or a strat or sth. its all unique.
I think guitar needs to be a guitar, if you have like 1k customizations you'll end up playing sth different, not a real guitar.... and the tuners going wild wtf?

@YOUDUDE56 I agree, but personally, the whole robotic guitar thing isnt something I would like. Yes its awesome to have a guitar that tunes itself... but, i kind of think that takes away from the actual guitar itself. guitars aren't something that should be advancing in technology (minus the amps, distortion pedals, and inner electronics of an electric) but all that is just for better sound quality... not for making the instrument into a machine.
@YOUDUDE56 I don't think the reason most people are hating on it, is because they don't have one. Maybe, it's because the genuinely do not like it. Just because someone 'hates' on something, doesn't make them envious, or make them jonesing for one.
@YOUDUDE56 I agree but the bitching is from Gibson Les Paul and original Gibson Lovers in general. The people at Gibson know its true, you mess with the design of guitars and change them too much people complain......ALOT. Even though its a new guitar, I feel as others do too that Gibson could always just probably pay a little closer attention to detail on the nice guitars they already produce instead of putting out some new fangled thing with bells and whistles.
Kinda ridiculous. Getting a guitar is supposed to be an adventure of getting shit and then getting better guitars, and experience with different types! This is a fucking computer, not a guitar.
the reason prs will always be better than gibson. they dont have the need to put goofy shit like this out. their products and quality speak for themselves without gimmicks
i don't know about this guitar but i played a lp robot yesterday and i don't think you can turn the tuning knobs manually? i think sometimes you might want to tune it yourself or use the tuning peg for vibrato!
you're damn right it it look as good as an Ibanez or a Fender or a PRS. It doesnt have a Whammy equipped bridge. Id rather buy a Musicman JP6 or a Variax guitar than spend all that dough on a stupid robot guitar that makes new guitar players become dumb at tuning their instrument.
Don't get me wrong the features are kinda cool, but the whole tuning system remains a luxury. It doesnt really add anything to the feel/sound/playabillity/etcetc and that's a shame. There are just a lot of people like me who'd rather spend 1 minute tuning their guitar, which actually improves your musical hearing
My fender mim is way better. gibson has the need to sale sale sale! they stopped puting soul into the products. just like the old saying " robot has no heart and no soul".
This guitar would be awesome if they would do something about the crazy pickguard, and perhaps give it a little bit a darker colour.
i really love little technological improvements, also in guitars. i love they way it tunes for you, not because tuning is a pain in the ass, but just because we can :P, and i mean seriously, a computer in a guitar, wicked! but the only thing that i don't understand is. if you got so many effects on your guitar, what about your amp effects?
Call me crazy, I like the guitar...even the looks. I just hate that this guy apparently ate a whole bag of potato chips before playing it! Watch the fingerprints...its $4K!!!
Я считаю что эта излишняя интеллектуальность и самостоятельность гитары вдохновляет не каждого, глупо все это, меня вообще смутили ее колки. Я боюсь мира, в котором мне придется жить в будущем, попасть бы в любимые 60е
I think guitar shouldn't be too clever, these robo-tuners and other 'super-electronic' things are scaring me, i'm afraid of the world i have to live in a future. Oh, these 60s were so perfect, how can I get these years...
i don't know what possessed gibson to take a les paul, arguably the greatest guitar design ever, change the name to a cheesy one, and give it a shitty makeover. kinda pisses me off
First of all, I'm so glad he played it so you can't hear what it actually sounds like through an amp. That would be WAY too informative.
Second (and most important) I certainly don't see any potential for things going wrong. I'd feel VERY confident playing a gig, depending on insanely complex circuitry, fragile selector switch / piezo volume knob combos, battery-dependent tone settings. Yeah...can't see any possible problems THERE!
Forget the cosmetics, this is a disaster-in-waiting.
they should have made it better looking. this kind of stuff usually stays in your head. I wouldn't mind owning something like this if i would like an average les paul
I love all the technical features on this guitar - but when are Gibson gonna wake up and make one of these robot guitars that looks like a regular Les Paul? What's with all the tiger-themed bullshit anyway?
Please Gibson just make normal-looking Les Paul with all the robot features.
sorry but too much tech and looks fkin awful. Gizmo's like this are for other musicians ...think they call them keyboard players. Am gonna stick with my black beauty....a no nonsense honest to god Gibbo straight into my JVM...... Can you honestly have seen the late great Les Paul (even as the inventive genious he was) plugging a guitar into a laptop???? NAH!!!!
one ugly piece...gibson should quit spending money on development of crazy shit like this, and focus on increasing quality build on there classics which has been dwindling.
This will have to be Good for this money, I`m not sure about the look & build quality is a big issue. I use an epi at the moment and to be honest the build quality is better than most gibsons i have tried, picked up a Studio yesterday ( New ) and tried it, sadly it was not good..........?
WTF??? Tiger teeth fret markers? Fang-inspired pickup mounting rings? Tiger-claw pick guard? All it's missing are some chrome whiskers and a bag of cat chow.
$4,000.00+??? The next time you see this guitar, it'll be a prop in, "Disney's The Lion King On Ice".
Sorry dudes...However digital and self tuned and all the gadget that goes with it....this guitar is ugly and the billions sounds it has ..still does not sound as great as a Les Paul or SG or G6120 or a strat. I'll never get one even for a cheaper price
@mrdefiganieres i tottally agree with you - it will come someday that we will put a ring or something in our fingers and just start to moove our fingers and we will sound like great guitarists - this is too much tecknology for the new children - the classic method always will prevail(i wish)
i disagree my friend i think that its real good lookin and i like the sound but i also like the sound of a les paul or sg but i think this is still a great guitar and totally reasonable priced
Bless 'em.. Gibson do keep trying don't they?.... Yet Another in a long line of gibson failures. Why don't they leave the gimmicks alone & concentrate on getting the quality up to the competition standard? They used to be the best... a long long time ago......
PS: I went to a Gibson promo evening last night and actually played the Dusk tiger and, as expected it's nothing to write home about..really. As a guitar, it's average. as an idea...brilliant, full marks...but, I'm afraid it was typical Gibson: (VERY) rough, sharp fret - ends which is just UNACCEPTABLE from any guitar let alone the self-professed 'world leaders'.... (?) Not good enough Gibson. Bad Fret finishing has been noted in review after review.. when are you going to address it?
They're denying it.. They get worse. Gibson display all the signs of a desperate child.
I went with someone at the weekend to advise him on buying a Gibson Songwriter custom.(I'm a luthier) I was surprised when I only found minimal faults, Then I saw the inside edge of the soundhole...I don't think it had been NEAR any sandpaper. UNFORGIVABLE at any price point let alone 2 grand!
I think they pulled the product because of the community backlash- especially as they sued PRS for ripping off the Les Paul. I bet they will become rare and sought after :)
Can you distort it (like a pedal or an amp setting) or would that ruin the guitar? Or does it have distortion in it as a setting?

the reason prs will always be better than gibson. they dont have the need to put goofy shit like this out. their products and quality speak for themselves without gimmicks
Metalhead12828 1 year ago
i don't know about this guitar but i played a lp robot yesterday and i don't think you can turn the tuning knobs manually? i think sometimes you might want to tune it yourself or use the tuning peg for vibrato!
moe354sa 1 year ago
you're damn right it it look as good as an Ibanez or a Fender or a PRS. It doesnt have a Whammy equipped bridge. Id rather buy a Musicman JP6 or a Variax guitar than spend all that dough on a stupid robot guitar that makes new guitar players become dumb at tuning their instrument.
acecepeda 1 year ago
4000 dollars for this? I'd rather get myself:
-custom shop ibanez
-custom shop ESP
-TWO custom shop Carvins
Don't get me wrong the features are kinda cool, but the whole tuning system remains a luxury. It doesnt really add anything to the feel/sound/playabillity/etcetc and that's a shame. There are just a lot of people like me who'd rather spend 1 minute tuning their guitar, which actually improves your musical hearing
GTASAmovies1 1 year ago
check out a PRS 513. feels better, looks better, all the tones you'd ever need. minus the robot tuners.
i feel old when i say this.. but technology and guitars don't mix. just seems odd to me.

My fender mim is way better. gibson has the need to sale sale sale! they stopped puting soul into the products. just like the old saying " robot has no heart and no soul".

ill take a fender MIM over this anyday

Moog Guitar is better
doomfreezzer61 1 year ago
This guitar would be awesome if they would do something about the crazy pickguard, and perhaps give it a little bit a darker colour.
i really love little technological improvements, also in guitars. i love they way it tunes for you, not because tuning is a pain in the ass, but just because we can :P, and i mean seriously, a computer in a guitar, wicked! but the only thing that i don't understand is. if you got so many effects on your guitar, what about your amp effects?
HiddeHeitbrink 1 year ago

50s60s80s 1 year ago
i don't know what possessed gibson to take a les paul, arguably the greatest guitar design ever, change the name to a cheesy one, and give it a shitty makeover. kinda pisses me off

Hey, people. The Dark Fire is similar and has no pick guards. So quit complaining.
HayabusaGrrrl 1 year ago
First of all, I'm so glad he played it so you can't hear what it actually sounds like through an amp. That would be WAY too informative.
Second (and most important) I certainly don't see any potential for things going wrong. I'd feel VERY confident playing a gig, depending on insanely complex circuitry, fragile selector switch / piezo volume knob combos, battery-dependent tone settings. Yeah...can't see any possible problems THERE!
Forget the cosmetics, this is a disaster-in-waiting.
mattleemattlee123 1 year ago
they should have made it better looking. this kind of stuff usually stays in your head.

NAH!!!!
twelub 1 year ago
one ugly piece...gibson should quit spending money on development of crazy shit like this, and focus on increasing quality build on there classics which has been dwindling.

gibson is OK but that suitcase is horrible damn

This will have to be Good for this money, I`m not sure about the look & build quality is a big issue. I use an epi at the moment and to be honest the build quality is better than most gibsons i have tried, picked up a Studio yesterday ( New ) and tried it, sadly it was not good..........?
Igotbadjoints 1 year ago
it is a recording studio guitar rather that a badass gig guitar.

@mrdefiganieres i think they should of kept the dark fire and but improved it instead of making a new look

@mrdefiganieres it ugly, but spray paint does exist. it can sound like anything,
25zeppelins 1 year ago
@mrdefiganieres i tottally agree with you - it will come someday that we will put a ring or something in our fingers and just start to moove our fingers and we will sound like great guitarists - this is too much tecknology for the new children - the classic method always will prevail(i wish)
messalion 1 year ago
@mrdefiganieres
i disagree my friend i think that its real good lookin and i like the sound but i also like the sound of a les paul or sg but i think this is still a great guitar and totally reasonable priced

Bless 'em.. Gibson do keep trying don't they?.... Yet Another in a long line of gibson failures. Why don't they leave the gimmicks alone & concentrate on getting the quality up to the competition standard? They used to be the best... a long long time ago......
tilleysolo 1 year ago
PS: I went to a Gibson promo evening last night and actually played the Dusk tiger and, as expected it's nothing to write home about..really. As a guitar, it's average. as an idea...brilliant, full marks...but, I'm afraid it was typical Gibson: (VERY) rough, sharp fret - ends which is just UNACCEPTABLE from any guitar let alone the self-professed 'world leaders'.... (?) Not good enough Gibson. Bad Fret finishing has been noted in review after review.. when are you going to address it?
tilleysolo 1 year ago
This will never top the Gibson Hendrix strat!!!

brownpants69 1 year ago
thats the worst thing ever.. i wonder if gibson is showing off the "Gibson Hendrix" in magazines
mannysoggy 1 year ago
They're denying it.. They get worse. Gibson display all the signs of a desperate child.
I went with someone at the weekend to advise him on buying a Gibson Songwriter custom.(I'm a luthier) I was surprised when I only found minimal faults, Then I saw the inside edge of the soundhole...I don't think it had been NEAR any sandpaper. UNFORGIVABLE at any price point let alone 2 grand!
tilleysolo 1 year ago
I long for a nice Les Paul- But I can't find one- I'll have to look for a used one if their build quality doesn't improve.
brownpants69 1 year ago
..It won't as long as they're arrogant enough to think the Gibson name is all people want.
The fret finishing issue could be sorted overnight but they still, constantly produce guitars with bad frets. It isn't difficult to get them right.
Rather than sueing Paul Reed Smith, they should go and see how they can match the quality. Cos they're way off!
tilleysolo 1 year ago
If you want a nice Les Paul, buy a Tokai! lol!
tilleysolo 1 year ago
I think they pulled the product because of the community backlash- especially as they sued PRS for ripping off the Les Paul. I bet they will become rare and sought after :)
