This is an awful book. All DD Guttenplan seeks to do is show everyone how many useless names and boring tangents he can throw in one book. To think this guy go paid for writing this piece of crap is insulting. My life is worse for having read it.
journalists regularly speak with govt officials no shit
soviets had govt officials just like any other government and journalists from all over will want to talk to them to get interesting information for stories it's not surprising in the least
Stone wasn't 'with' Stalin he was a sympathiser at first but then he changed his views once he learned the truth - the same is true of many others at the time and him being a journalist obviously makes it a rational decision on his part to talk to Soviet officials etc. as, not surprisingly, many thousands of other journalists, many non-sympathisers, did over the course of the Soviet Union's history - that does not make them agents
While it is tempting to simply remove the nonsensically untrue comment of RuflessRecords and ugly name calling of patsagainstrats, I'll leave them up as examples of the limited mindset of many right-wingers. I'll leave it to this I.F.Stone video and wisdom of those attracted to it to discern truth from the lie.
We need to develop an American form of socialism fully respectful of individual rights, returning power to the people instead of a corrupt government controlled by the rich.
I. F. Stone was a rotten, murderous Stalin agent who passed along information to the rotating circle of various psychopaths running the KGB during the Soviet purges of the 1930's. He praised Stalin and Russia as part of our "news media" while Stalin was murdering innocents by the million (when Stalin wanted the Russian Navy to focus on building bigger ships, he first murdered everyone involved, including the guys who made the blueprints). Stone bears responsibility for Stalin's murders.
Any American who was an agent of Stalin like the "journalist" I.F. Stone was is the most despicable type of human garbage imaginable, someone enjoying their freedoms in a democratic society while aiding one of the world's most brutal ever mass murderers oppress others. He bears some responsibility for every Russian ever murdered wrongly by the Communist regime, and everyone ever jailed wrongly, and all the rest who lived their lives with no freedoms. He should have been publicly executed.
Stone was never a spy and stopped associating with KGB contacts after the invasion of Hungary and the revelations of Stalinist atrocities
he was also a great journalist who relied on his own initiative and broke stories uncovering the lies and deceptions of governments, all of which were very well sourced as he got them from official sources through the library of congress, government records etc.
@RuflessRecords "someone enjoying their freedoms in a democratic society . . . bears some responsibility for every Russian ever murdered wrongly by the Communist regime"
And do you accept responsibility for the hundreds of thousands of Central Americans murdered by death squads and militaries enthusiastically supported by Ronald Reagan and the CIA? If not, you're a hypocrite.
But then, all scumfuck conservative whores of the American military state are hypocrites. What's new?
@bapyou yes, if you spied for Joseph Stalin, despite being born into a free country, you are responsible for the murders that he enacted during his bloodbath reign.
I.F. Stone should have been beheaded on public television for his assistance in Soviet genocide.
Anyone who wants the truth, read Stone's columns praising Stalin DURING the slaughter of millions of innocents during the 1930's. The fact that he was an agent (BLIN) of Soviet Russia as well is in decrypted Venona Commie cables
@RuflessRecords "read Stone's columns praising Stalin DURING the slaughter of millions of innocents during the 1930's"
As I wrote to you previously, creampuff, read the work of William F. Buckley in the 1980s. He praised the Presidency of Ronald Reagan as if Reagan had descended from heaven, at the same time Reagan secretly & not-so-secretly funded the death squads of El Salvador, Guatemala, & Nicaragua.
Where's your outrage, creampuff? Or don't landless, illiterate peasants have rights?
Thanks for the excellent video on Guttenplan's timely and important book. Good work, Joe. This is my introduction to I. F. Stone. I know the name Tom Hayden (at 6:27).
Out they come...the disinsformers........

I.F. Stone was an American patriot. Mr. Stone has come under new attacks by far right people who will stop at nothing to further their philosophies.
Unfortunately, right wing people present their arguments in sound bites and lies. Oh..and name calling too..right RR?
