  • gotta love the broadstreet bullies

  • what a great call by the voice!!..gene hart was awesome...!! nobody will ever come close

  • I'm watching the final game of that 1974 series on classic NHL. The only game I have ever seen where Bobby Orr is such a non factor, he must be hurting because the previous game Barber gave a vicious knee on knee attack that left Orr on the ice.

Orr must have been on the ice for 45 minutes.

  • wtf...clarke with schultz and flett?? talk about protection for a star player

  • I grew up surrounded by Flyers fans and I have to say that this was the coolest piece of hockey I've ever seen. I love how Gene Hart goes insane when Clarke scores. And of course, Clarke's "spontaneous leap for joy" always makes me smile. =)

  • i love the flyers

  • just watch ESPN 30-30 on the Flyers, what a cool show. The Flyers took on the personality of the city, they were blue collar, hard hitting, maniacs. Just like 30-30 said beloved in Philly and hated all over the rest of the world!

  • he scored for a case of Tastykake,God i remember those days so well.

  • Clarke is the man! I want his jersey so bad!!!

  • The greatest goal in Flyers history. To put it in perspective look at the terrible odds the Flyers had to face-In their 7-years in the league, they had never beaten the Bruins-At this point they were asked to beat this great team four times in two weeks-amazing.

  • I can think of one better - MacLeish's goal in game 6. This one was more dramatic (Gene Hart sounded like he had a simultaneous orgasm/heart attack when it was scored), and it put the Flyers over the hump against the Big Bad Bruins, but it didn't win them a Cup. It definitely ranks up there with other playoff goals, but I think the only goal in a game to clinch the 1st Cup trumps it. I also was too young to fully appreciate what happened, so keep that in mind.

  • @escrapple Not quite true, the Flyers had only won once in Boston, the first game theyever played there, so most experts thought that because of this they had no chance to win Cup. In reality but for Orr's goal with 22 seconds left in game 1 Flyers could have won this series 4 straight. Bruin dynasty had lost too many key players 2 years before. ie Sanderson, Cheevers, Stanfield, Westfall, MacKenzie, Green, for them to continue wining Cups.

  • Flyers get the job done.

  • I love the enthusiasm of the commentators here.

  • @GmanGregilla Do you know the late great Don Earle, who was from Boston, and was color commentator on Clarke's goal, broadcast Bruin games on TV from '67-'71?

  • @DonQwantsyou

Actually, I'm not quite familiar with him.

Although the name of his sounds somewhat familiar to me.

  • I remember this game very well. The Flyers played a perfect game againts a very very talented Boston Club. On Bostons Home ice the Flyers took home advantage in playing flawless hockey along with another stellar performance by NHL Legend Bernie Parent in goal.

  • i remember this like it was yesterday

  • one of top 5 goals of all time

  • Old time hockey; they always kept two hands on the stick, even when they were jumping up and down celebrating a goal!

  • unlike pussy Ovechkin.

  • What the hell is the goalie doing? He pretty much gave Clarke a wide open net.

  • I can't blame Gilbert (the Bruins' goalie here) here as it was a great (somewhat sneaky) backhanded pass, with defenders around him on 3 sides, to Clarke that almost could've disguised itself as a shot.

In desperation, he made the initial save on an open Clarke.

  • @leafyutube Gilly Gilbert was a great goalie for years for Bruins. He actually made spectacular save on Clarke's first attempt with a sprawl. No chance on the rebound.

  • shhhh dont speak

  • LOL, after seeing you in your youtube pic a can tell you would know what a fag jump would look like!

  • ROFL

  • go flyers all the way this year

  • LOL!

  • Flyers don't win the Cup w/o this goal.....plain and simple.........and how about Gene Hart's call.........still gives me goose bumps!

  • @slappy2X the voice was the best!! ....what a great call...i was at boston garden before...and that place was soooo steep...when you hear don earle "interrupting" gene...it's because his headset was falling off...when you stood up at the garden it felt like your body was leaning foward....it was that steep.....

  • damn bruins you suck go back to boston.

  • screw you bruins are the best

  • BANDWAGON.

  • BRUINS SUCKS SINCE 73

  • I'm a devoted Habs fan but I've got to say this.Everybody refers to these Flyer teams as bullies and all that. But,things is,these early 70's Flyers teams had some serious talent,Leach,Clarke,MaCliesh,Barber and parent.Combine that with a torrid work ethic and a sound defensive system and you've got chamionships

  • Thanks, wrappindude. You're right....you don't win Cups solely by fighting and intimidation (although, it didn't hurt!). Your Habs got us in '76, though.......speaking of great teams......that was a nice 4 year run! Dryden was a wall.........

  • @wrappindude glad someone's actually smart enough to see that. now you're a true hcokey fan bud.BULLIES!

  • @wrappindude unfortunately the flyers seem to be unable to get a hold on a sound defensive group of players.

  • whats the matter dude, picked on as akid?Clarke did his job and did it well!I watched many a game where he went one on one with guys, alone.

He was the captain and was protected.

What did you want him to do,tell schultz and the boys not to come to his aid?

    Smarten up wind bag!

  • great player ...hated him at time...admire him greatly now

  • This made us believe it was possible!

  • lets go flyers and lets go gene hart

  • DON EARLE THAT ASSHOLE...TRYING TO REIGN ON GENE HART'S GREAT CALL...if you have ever been to boston garden...it was soooo...steep...when i first heard this it sounded like gene heart lost his head set...as it turned out he did lose it....it was sooooo steep at the Garden...

  • By scoring that goal in overtime, Bobby Clarke gave me the best birthday present I could have asked for.

He remains one of my all-time hockey heroes.

  • Clarke is definition of a leader -- biggest goal in franchise history...and that call by Gene Hart gives me chills every time I hear it.

  • maybe the biggest goal in our history

  • Greatest Leader of all time.

  • is that from 25th anniversary video?

  • gene hart is a legend.

  • wow, what a call. gene hart is the greatest.

  • @TheBlueDevilz

Don Earle ruined Gene's call of that goal.

  • @vcasalnova hey at least Gene Hart was there. if it was now it wouldve been that fuckin asshole emerick and Hart wouldve been announcing baseball. fuckin bullshit networks can buy the playoffs and not let us hear our guys announcing the games. it was killing me not hearin JJ for most of the playoffs.

  • @vcasalnova gene hart lost his head set on that goal..that's why i think earle jumped in there...boston garden was very very steep...

  • @TheBlueDevilz Gene Hart was my idol....loved that guy!!

  • @TheBlueDevilz I didnt get to here him in my life personally but i watch clips and he sounded amazing. But atleast we have JJ

  • I was 10yo when that game was played. I was heartbrken. I have and always will have the deepest respect for Bobby Clarke. This from a Bruins fan

  • Props to you for looking back with respect and not lingering hate. This game was played 3 years before I was born, so I didn't get to live it. That said, it still means a lot to me as far as Flyers history and even moreso because of how good the Bruins were back then.

  • @BlackBears617 B. Clarke was ALSO a cheap shoting SOB. He broke Klhalamov's ankles with his stick during Team Canada- Russia series in 1972, lucky to be protected by those Flyer goons.

  • I was too young to remember this, but Gene Hart's call was amazing. I'll describe it as a simultaneous orgasm and heart attack rolled into one...classic...Let's GO FLYERS!

  • I was fourteen at the time and I remember it well as our living room erupted when Clarke's goal finally broke the Boston Garden jinx. Moose Dupont's goal in the waning seconds of regulation tied it...awesome memories.

  • clarke is one of the alltime great team leaders in any professional sport, period.

  • old school jerseys...classic

  • It was after this the game where the Flyers realized they could beat the big bad Bruins.

  • Bobby Clarke was a great player and a greater leader. As a Bruins fan who remembers the 74 final very well I had respect for him then as a 11 year old fan and still do today, as far as "cheap shots" go...it's hockey, deal with it. Growing up in New England hockey was part of every kids life in the 70's and we didn't cry about those things...

  • The Mound of Sound and Kate Smith, great memories, John Facenda was a rock in Philly

  • schef99:Thats not John Facenda. It does sound a bit like him, but it's not.

  • yes, you are right, hes the guy from NFL films sometimes but Facenda dated my Grandmother, just props to him, he did the news back then

  • " this diabetic POS maggot pussy??? "

Sounds like fighting words to me!!!!

Doesn't anyone here even get that Bobby Clarke is one of the greatest hockey players ever, and yet some people here are going to remember him for the words you say about him. That's very sad.

Bobby Clarke's a true inspiration to athletes with diabetes.

  • Yea,you are right.Bob really did a awesome job

  • Elected to the NHL Hall of Fame in 1987.

  • BOBBY Clarke: A great hockey player, who was one of the most-unselfish players on the ice. Look at his stats - more assists than goals.

    BOB Clarke: A horrible GM - he's Ed Snider's personal butt-kisser!

  • "he's Ed Snider's personal butt-kisser!"

That sounds a bit homophobic if you ask me.

  • Well, I was going to use stronger language, but for some reason, YouTube wouldn't post my original version that used the other term that also refers to a donkey! ;-)

Actually, I was referring to BOB Clarke being a yes-man for Mr. Snider.

Now only if the Flyers can win Game 6 of the Caps series at the Wachovia Center...remember, in Philly, it ain't BEGUN 'til the fat lady sings!

    R.I.P. Kate Smith :*(

  • hey roadrunner go fuck youself you loser. neway, i wasnt born yet when they won but im sure proud to be a flyers fan, especially tht they won back to back cups. theyre lookin good this year, and i really hope tht they can at least make it this year. for sure the playoffs easily stanley cup looks ok, bu winning it's hard. if they make it then ill say tht they'll win it. LET'S GO FLYERS!!!!!

  • Sorry cheeese-steak eating pipe-fitter (or garbage man in his 60s) - the truth is the truth - Bobbie is spineless, gutless, chea-shot artists - an embarassment to the NHL and any self-respecting franchise - owes his career to Parent - Bobbie was worse than a nothing in all other aspects of his NHL career

  • wow you sir are mentally challenged

    go fuck your mother

  • Sorry - the lines too long or I would do yours, south philly chees boy. No Bernie-no Cups. As GM, no Cups. Chea shot artist as GM (see Lindros), cheap shot artist supporter (post quitting as success-less GM) in superficial, powerless, meaningless role when he raved about Downie's sucker punch of Leaf when Leaf still had his gloves on and arms held by ref - oh, he's a real symbol of he F'ers..F'ing losers is what they are.

  • A goal that is still the greatest moment in Flyers history, in my opinion. Winning the Stanley Cup was great, but winning this game was the impetus. Kind of like how landing on the moon on Apollo 11 was great, but would not have been possible if not for Apollo 8 proving you coulf get there eight months prior.

  • I'm sure knucklehead will agree that Don Brashear is a fucking animal. (I'm sure he'll respond with :"speak for yoursef, you racist door knob!")

  • flyers for life

  • Man, this is great! I LOVE hockey!

  • He also has over 1200 career points, 2 Stanley Cups, 3 MVPs and is in the Hall of Fame. So yeah... how many of those things do you have again?

  • haha great comeback

  • u use the same remarks for all of ur trash comments.... and i agree with Cooppyy here. u suk and dont know a thing about good hockey

  • I will always have emblazened in my memory the back page of the Philly Daily News and Clarke jumping up! Along with that what about Moose's goal in the final minute to tie it up, followed by the infamous Moose Shuffle. Great game! As for the trash spewing Leafs fan-stifle it loser, there's no crying in hockey.

  • Bobbie Clarke was truly the NHL's "Cowardly Vagina" - cheap shot, turtle up, hide nbehind his team mates - he was an embarrassment to hockey and, quite frankly, all men. He was a woman. Flamers, er Flyers, are now 33 years without a Cup - the true legacy of their "leader" Bobbie Clarke. Nappy headed, toothless (as his male lovers like that), and gutless - what a maggot..

  • He was also a two time Stanley Cup Champion and a three time league MVP. You, on the other hand, are a bitch ass punk who spends his days whining about people who've actually succeeded in life. Good for you. I'd suggest you eat a bullet but defiling a bullet would be cruel.

  • Boy, you sound successful - an illiterate loser, probably with some south philly ho as a wife or girlfriend - what do they call your wife or girlfriend? A "cheese steaks wit'?" keep supporting gutless, maggot vagina coward losers like "Knob-job"bie Clarke

  • Dude was that best insult you had for Jerome, "a cheese steaks wit" you my friend are obviously not from our city therefore you don't understand our love of our greatest Flyer, the one, the only, Bobby Clarke.

  • Dude(!), Bobbie was a cheap-shot artist who cowered and lipped off behind his teammates (and is not on any Bullies videos on youtube as a result), he is a quitter and loser as a GM who is a maggot in every sense of the word, in every decade - what a disgrace...

  • Clarke never claimed to be a fighter. In fact, when asked if he could fight, he replied "No, I couldn't fight worth a damn." That's why you have enforcers on your team, you unwashed clit. A smart player knows his role and sticks to it. Clarke knew how to dish it out, take it and put the puck in the net as well. That's what gets you into the NHL Hall of Fame as well as the title "Officer of Canada", Canada's highest civilian honor.

  • Your opinion is about as worthless as your stretched out, feces and blood-rimmed anus. However, I will give you credit for being able to type flawlessly as your uncle's knob pounds furiously in and out of your mouth. When he's finished, please keep your mouth shut.

  • As for his cheapshots, Clarke himself admits that it was part of his game. "If I hadn't learned to lay on a two-hander once in a while, I'd never have left Flin Flon." His so called "vagina cowardly" slash on the Kharlamov's ankle was praised as the turning point in the Summit Series. Choke on your own semen, Shitbag.

  • Hey you just admitted this "leader" of yours is a coawrdly cheap-shot coward! Thanks for supporting my point! He is and always will be gutless maggot, toothless perm boy - like you - Fly-guy!

  • It's spelled "cowardly." You spell better while getting your teeth brushed by a knob. I hope you freeze to death in your trailer this winter, you classless nobody. Must be a Devils fan. True filth.

  • harsh

  • You witless tit. As a "rower" and a "runner," your expertise in hockey is undoubtedly limitless, much like your desire for cock. Bobby Clarke was ranked as the 23rd best player of all time. Eat shit.

  • You just confirmed my point - thanks! As you acknowledge, Clarkie is a gutless cowardly cheapshot loser!

  • Your opinion is about as worthless as your stretched out, feces and blood-rimmed anus. However, I will give you credit for being able to type flawlessly as your uncle's knob pounds furiously in and out of your mouth. When he's finished, please keep your fucking mouth shut.

  • Do you remember when clarke got hit in the head by a Reggie Leach Slapshot...his shot was like 90 mps....and DIDN'T EVEN GO TO THE BENCH...he just shook it off...so the TRY AND KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT WHEN YOU CALL SOMEBODY GUTLESS

  • HOW MANY OTHER PLAYERS DO YOU SEE HIDE BEHIND THEIR POLICE OFFICERS.....it's not uncommon to see players do that...as a GM who gives rats a.s.s.....i am talking about what kind of player he was...answer my question...HE GETS HIT IN THE HEAD WITH A 90MPH SLAPSHOT...AND JUST SHAKES IT OFF...GIVE CREDIT WHERE IT'S DUE...

  • This turned out to be the pivotal point in whole series. It was the only game the visiting team won. Philly had tied the game late in the third period.

  • This was the Broad st. Bullies vs. the Bashing Bruins, the two toughest teams going mano a' mano. I bet the rangers wish they could have stood up to Boston the same way in 1972.

  • not the bashing bruins...but the big bad bruins

  • @conewells Keep in mind the Bruins were not as strong here as in 1972. Key players like badboys MacKenzie, Sanderson, Westfall, Green, Stanfield, and Cheevers were gone. If THAT team was kept intact, I'm sure Bruins would have beaten Flyers. Hell Rangers pushed Flyers to 7 games before final.

  • wow clarke rules

  • I was 13 when this happened. I remember almost hitting the ceiling. It seemed like a dream, to beat the Orr, Esposito, etc. Bruins. One of my favorite Philly sports moments ever.

  • I was 10 and pretty much echoed Bobby Clarke's jump into the air tucking his legs behind him!

The voiceover for the entire video was WCAU's legendary anchor, John Facenda, who was also the voice of NFL Films at one time.

The play-by-play guy was none other than Hall of Fame announcer Gene Hart.

  • OldsVistaCruiser:The advent of youtube is great for being able to see these great moments from our Philly sports lives. Fans from other cities may not understand how much we Philly fanatics cherish our few championships. I was at the Vet in '77 for black Friday against the Dodgers. Still get sick thinking about that. Was there for the '80 win against KC, and I just got back from loss 10,000. But,(sign of the cross) In the name of the Eagles,Flyers,Phillies, and Sixers. God love 'em.

  • vanparty:

I was at the last three games at the Vet as a guest of the Phillies, thanks to VP of PR Larry Shenk and my Ashburn Stadium banner, which had a 9-1 record when I flew it at the Vet in 2003, including during the "hurricane game".

I led a fan campaign to name the new ballpark "Rich Ashburn Stadium at Citizens Bank Park".

    Bill in Bucks Co.

    known elsewhere online as AshburnStadium

  • You know Bill, it's sad that everything in pro sports revolves around corporate sponsors and the almighty $. That ballpark really should be named after Whitey. He (and maybe Gene Hart) was beloved by everyone. I'll be down at the game on the 27th against the Pirates. Got 2 tix from the Phils because I umpired a Carpenter Cup game at U. of Penn. Good to hear from ya. Man, every time I hear Gene Hart make that call I get chills. Brian in Cherry Hill

  • Brian:

I finally opened my Philly sports name here on YouTube. Anyway, ANY Gene Hart call (he shoots, he scores - for a case of Tastykake!) brings chills, as does any big Harry Kalas call.

Harry still hasn't gotten over His Whiteness' death, even nearly 10 years later, as they were best friends both on & off the field.

Gene was as beloved by any Flyers fan as Kate Smith. When it comes to the Flyers, it ain't BEGUN 'til the fat lady sings!

    Bill near Sellersville

  • 1974 - My favourite year for hockey and any sports!

  • This is an awesome clip, no doubt about it. I was 3 when this game took place, never saw it until now. I love the way hockey was played in the 70s & 80s....miss some of those players now!

  • This Game was played on May 9,1974 and the Flyers won 3-2. This was the Flyers first win in Boston since 1967. 9 days later they won there first Stanley Cup.

  • GO PHILLY

  • what have you done for me lately...Philly!!! Over 30 yrs now!!! A whole lot of choking since that last Cup raising!!!

  • "what have you done for me lately...Philly!!! Over 30 yrs now!!! A whole lot of choking since that last Cup raising!!!"

At least they've been able to get to the Cup finals on five occasions since last winning it; not like some team called the Maple Laughs during the past 40(!) years.
