Never could quite picture what he said until I watched this movie. This is a movie that uncovers the hidden history of Taiwan. The more people watch it the better I say. according to the treaty of san francisco 1952 the u.s. has legal jurisdiction over taiwan. not the commies, or anyone else. the r.o.c. are an occupying government-in-exile. they govern taiwan the u.s. doesnt have a military presence there but indirectly they do in the presence of the r.o.c. the commies would be stupid to invade or attack taiwan. it would be like attacking u.s. territory. the one china policy the u.s. has is the r.o.c. eventually taking back all china. thats the legal reality

Towards the beginning of the film I had my doubts due to it's semi-lagging pace, but once it sped-up and ended, I realized I just saw one of the best films of the year, thus far. It is available at kookíca. This one is not only a compelling and very well made motion picture, it's a throughly enjoyable one as well.

i thought the cast was amazing and the effects completely germaine to the movie, but i sort of feel like it was almost *too* easy to follow. i'd be totally willing to see it again on kookíca just to see if there was something i missed, thematically speaking, and whether the end is what i think it is, or not.

its so complicated, nearly all taiwanese are descendants of mainlanders(no matter what time they arrived at taiwan), except of the 原住民. As far as I know the Taiwanese language is very similar to the 閩南話 spoken in parts of the mainland. I can understand the wish of independence, I would not like to live under CCP government too...but I can't understand why some Taiwanese insult mainland-people generally. I think this is a very sad thing...and fuck the few 外國人, who always write 'fuck china'
Hang on a moment Austria and Germany are completely seperate countries even though people in both countries speak German, look the same, behave in a similiar way, eat similiar food and both Austrians and Germansare from the same base ethnic stock. In many ways Austrians and Germans probably have far more in common than Han Chinese from neighbouring provincess but hardly any Austrians or Germans are calling for unification simply because they have very similiar cultures or genetics.
The way that Austria and Germany were made has it's own history, so it's more then polite not to argument with this things mostly when people are not properly introduced with how actually Austria and Germany became different countries.
And, the strangest thing going on is that countries are constantly breaking down but all under a mission to unify them after. What's with that?! Europe is the best example of this.
The point I was making just because groups of people have similarities in language, religion, music and genetics doesn't automatically justify political union. Just look at Romania and Moldavia as well as Scotland and Ireland. Anyway I can understand why many people in Taiwan get irritated by Chinese in P.R.C. This story is very very believable and has one of the best actors. I loved this movie..it is the best movie I have seen in years. The plot is based in the great place, it has great pictures...it just could not be better. The one-liners made this movie even more enjoyable. See it on kookicá.
In the previous years, there were no this kind of scenes, this kind of effects in the movies, but recently, there are a lot of them....and it really looks enjoyable. One takes place in Hawaii, involving 13 countries. The other military exercise takes place near Singapore involving 9 countries, all China's neighbors.

its so complicated, nearly all taiwanese are descendants of mainlanders(no matter what time they arrived at taiwan), except of the 原住民. As far as I know the Taiwanese language is very similar to the 閩南話 spoken in parts of the mainland. I can understand the wish of independence, I would not like to live under CCP government too...but I can't understand why some Taiwanese insult mainland-people generally. I think this is a very sad thing...and fuck the few 外國人, who always write 'fuck china'

Hang on a moment Austria and Germany are completely seperate countries even though people in both countries speak German, look the same, behave in a similiar way, eat similiar food and both Austrians and Germansare from the same base ethnic stock. In many ways Austrians and Germans probably have far more in common than Han Chinese from neighbouring provincess but hardly any Austrians or Germans are calling for unification simply because they have very similiar cultures or genetics.

The point I was making just because groups of people have similarities in language, religion, music and genetics doesn't automatically justify political union. Just look at Romania and Moldavia as well as Scotland and Ireland. Anyway I can understand why many people in Taiwan get irritated by Chinese in P.R.C. As I am a Taiwanese, I living in here for more than 50 years, I have seen most of the crisis which the movie told, but believe me in 1983 Taiwan has became a democracy country than many other countries, but the DDP saw the president Jiang was getting old, they think it is a great time to take over the power, so they started to take activity on each issues to against the government, but it truly not like the movie said, I belong to no party, and I only saw the DDP lead people to burn and broken.

But I'd rather believe you are Chinese either from China or born in Taiwan and strongly believe "Taiwan is part of China". Not a person loves Taiwan or at least accepts Taiwan is his place to live. 看完這部電影後沉默了好久直到片尾曲結束

@lcmtwn This is not a joke. Formosa Foundation is promoting the movie which demonstrated they invested a lot of money in this film. Formosa Foundation is Chen Shui-Bian's pet organization. Chen scamed money from poor Taiwanese farmers and accepted bribe from rich business men.
It's very possible that James van der beek is spending Chen's dirty money now. Since James spend money watching a Cardinal's game. Local people over there in Saint Louis is receiving dirty pay check.

It is just political reasons promoted by the Pan-Green Party.
Many of the very early Taiwanese indepentalists are actually 外省人 and many of the men persecuted by Chiang Kai-Shek are also 外省人 who disliked his ways and also Taiwanese that are sympathetic to the Chinese Liberalism (just not Chiang Kai-Shek).. Noted most of the modern Pan-Green leaders who speak about mainlanders are not the ones that suffered from CSK but people who make a healthy profit from those events.

這部電影的上映日期也被白色恐怖了,本來預計2008總統大選時上映的,但是因為會影響到藍色的選情,所以2008年並沒有上映,所以這部電影上映的時間也被白色恐怖了,所以看清楚啦,藍色真的是....狗改不了吃屎!!

@caonimazazhongtoushu China thinks if it destroys Taiwan's democracy and way of life then it can prove itself superior. That shouldn't be a difficult thing. After all, Taiwan only has between 1.5-2.0% of China's population. China wins simply based on size alone. It shouldn't be very hard to win when your nation is nearly 60 times larger. However, what would that prove? It would prove that China is a bigger, more aggressive nation. How does that 复兴华夏文明?

For the most part, we Taiwanese are sick of having to deal with China's unfinished business. What's up with using our island as a base for "liberating" China and accomplishing Sun Yat-Sen's vision? Take your civil war and grand visions elsewhere. If KMT wants to free the people of China, they can go right ahead. We will pay for their one-way ticket back.

From the Qing dynasty to Communism, China's fear of the West has been the dominant theme. Taiwanese see new possibilities in the future. We do not fear the West. Anyone who isn't loyal to the Chinese government or identify with the Chinese race is automatically branded a traitor. Well, unfortunately, that means you lose a lot of good people. Intellectuals like to think freely. They don't want to be told who they are and how they should think. If China wants to be a cultural center the political system has to change.

@caonimazazhongtoushu Sure, go ahead. But I just want to make a point. For a country that prides itself as civilized and peaceful, China is neither today. In the past, China used to be the cultural mecca of Asia.
You said "我华夏也是温和的高等文明". Is that what China is today? No. Today China tries to intimidate neighboring countries with military force. That's unfortunate. Asia has turned away from China because China cares more about territorial integrity than cultural development.

@caonimazazhongtoushu 小国? Did you forget the U.S. According to American military's assessment, despite PLA's bravado, China's navy today is at the level of Soviet navy during the 1960s. Good luck fighting with the U.S. and the rest of the world. I am pretty sure the entire western Europe would side with America too so that's pretty much everyone against China. Russia is no friend of China either. You are on your own, totally isolated and surrounded.

Australia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Peru, Singapore, Thailand, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines.
India is also increasing troops in the Chinese border.

That's a total of 462 Tomahawk missiles capable of hitting anything within 1,000 miles pointing at China. Also, two major military exercises involving the U.S. and its allies iare now under way. One takes place in Hawaii, involving 13 countries. The other military exercise takes place near Singapore involving 9 countries, all China's neighbors.

thanks for posting the trailer. took a quick look at the comments posted by others. i do have a healthy understanding of the modern history of both china and especially taiwan, so can understand the nature and why others wrote such bitchy comments. but seriously, boys and girls, try and discuss like adults. previous comments look like they were written by complete nut jobs!
