@aquakiller8, the argument over what is real old school punk is overdone. Back in '76 people always like to point out The Sex Pistols, The Clash, and The Ramones... Then there's the earlier proto-punk like MC5 and Velvet Underground etc... You could take it all the way back to real anti-corporate revolutionary artists like Woody Guthrie if you wanted. Anyhow, back then they all had good mutual respect for each other.
This is real old school punk rock. Back when bands like Bad Religion, DK, The Clash, MDC, Crass.. were a lot more musically talented and also used lyrics that spoke out against oppressive regimes and Right Wing politics.

@pastorstevem Holy fuck, learn the English language before you try to sound educated.
And your Christian God isn't real. Spend about 30 minutes researching on the Internet and it'll most likely change your mind or at least make you skeptical.
Morality does not originally come from religion. If you have ever looked into philosophy at all you would know that morality came before organized religion.
@pastorstevem The universe came before our concept of God. Don't you think it is very arrogant of us to believe that we are the most important beings in the universe. Or if there was a God that exists do you think he would even care about us? You need to open your mind and understand that the Bible was written by man and not by a supreme entity. Man's view of religion has evolved over time and man has ruled out the aspects of religion that impede man's progression.
@pastorstevem Ok dude. Let's just stop using any technology. Let's let faith take care of that. You know there are people in many other countries that believe the same way that you do, but in a different "god." You don't have to put faith in an entity that doesn't exist; you could actually try to make this world a better place and not promote some fake feeling. The only God that exists is the one that you made up in your head. I'm done arguing on youtube.
@pastorstevem ok so if i have 'Faith' that the fat deuce i just dropped will save my soul then im good? Faith is a horrible word used by people to afraid to take responsibility for there own lives and ideals. FAITH is sheaple talk there buddy and i think its your turn in line to get fleeced
@johnnyfatty if you have faith that's a evidence of you moral being lining
up with GODS caricature now u have evidence OF GOD IN YOU
so you put your trust in that who is GOD nothing ells y cuss he is the Creator of all things do fat deuce ever healed some one can it make the sun turn back or give sight
@pastorstevem - This song is not speaking againest GOD................its speaking againest WORLDLY/ORGANIZED RELIGION. WORLDLY/ORGANIZED RELIGION AND GOVERNMENT= SAME THING is what this song is trying to say, and that is absolutely true.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
They are plagiarizing suicidal tendencies with the whole intro soliloquy.....just like "shattered faith" is a medley of the bassline from "the idiots are taking over" by nofx and the chorus is the same melody and chord progression as the chorus of a song by the offspring, maybe "the kids aren't alright", or something like that. I guess it could be coincidental, or they may be respectfully paying tribute, but you'd think BR would do better than to pay tribute to a band like the offspring, no?
@cuntsound I was mixed up.. "epiphany" has the NOT very simple bassline of "stickin' in my eye", not "the idiots". The "shattered faith" chorus is the same melody and guitar riff, as well as very similar lyrical structure, and that song was one of the pop/so-cal(led) punk songs that had a spot on the charts in the late 90's when every band was claiming to be heavily influenced by punk. I'm not saying they took something "owned" by someone else, just observing the similarity. I love Bad Religion.
@cuntsound - if u believe what you said your an idiot - All those bands FOLLOWED Bad Religion....BR put this out in 81'. Get your facts right before spewing nonsense. Suicidal's 1st album was in 83'. If anything you gotta go further back to the Ramones etc for who BR followed...
@AdamRainStopper Also-Greg Graffin writes in his memoirs of LA punk that the Venice crew-ST-came around about 2 years into BR, and they were at the first ST show-to which they already had written alot of how could hell.
@AdamRainStopper If I'm not wrong, Offspring borrowed that melody from BR's discarded songs. Brett used to provide them with the occasional melody. Later, BR decided to reuse it as a B-side. So the mystery is solved. Anyways, a punk song is so much more than the melody.
@LordPaynus What "judgement" am I making? I was just pointing out similarities in songs from different bands, but when someone states something as fact and I know it to be false, I am going to point it out.
NOFX, Bad Religion, and The Offspring are pioneers of the EpiFat punk scene of the late 80s and 90s. Those bands, along with Rancid and Pennywise pioneered a sound and often played in the same dives together, so it's no wonder their sounds might be similar.
@cuntsound - If I write a song, I have the right to do whatever I want with it, make money or sell it for free. Without capital incentive, music ceases to exist.
@mikeymacaque Check my channel. I barely break even if you DON'T count the cost of guitar and bass strings, amplifier tubes, and drum-heads, and maintenance for my equipment, but just enough to cover another pack of blank CD's when I sell 20 at a show that I play for free. I have no capital incentive. But I would be pretty pissed if someone covered it and forgot to mention that it wasn't their's. I post music on YT and email MP3's/WMA's free because it is free for me, CD's pay for themselves.
But for bands to put their full effort and make it a living, there needs to be some reward. I'm not saying hobbyists can't do it, but for bands to play full time and keep playing full time, there needs to be some payment. And while I agree that if it ain't cheap, it ain't punk, there needs to be something to put food on the table.
I wasn't calling you anything, don't strap your bra on so tight homeboy. I was saying that if somebody wants to pay the bills by playing music and hot having a day job, there needs to be a capital incentive. This capitalism is evil shit is bullshit.
@mikeymacaque I never said anything about capitalism or business or even claimed that it is wrong to accept a record deal, as long as it doesn't require you to adjust you music to fit the market and avoid subject matter that would offend shareholders. You should be saying this crap to the other guy. HOWEVER, to say that "to play music full-time there must be capital incentive" is simply ludicrous. I record 15-30 hours a week and work a day job. Both are possible because I'm not lazy.
@AdamRainStopper Alot of bands do that, in fact the offspring is one of them. Like their song, "why don't you get a job" in the chorus they clearly mimick the ryhtym to the beatles "obla di obla da" and in the song "you're gonna go far kid" the pre-chorus is a total rip from a muse song. I've been told by a friend that another part of that song is also a rip from some fall out boy song, though I don't listen to FOB so i cant say what riff and what song it's from.
@CJbass420 Yes, I know, a lot of bands do that, and then others don't. Anyone who's ever listened to a song is going to be influenced in some small way by it, but I don't copy or "borrow" for my stuff, at least not in any way that I am conscious of it, because I want my material to be original. I have been told I write similar to this guy or that guy, but not in the same way that these bands are similar. Either way, you are merely repeating what I already said, but adding that other bands do it.
@AdamRainStopper Definitly I agree, some bands go too far with it, like Zeppelin, even though I love them, they stole alot. Sometimes you just can't help it though, I've written riffs and then heard riffs just like it. My friend wrote a riff that was pretty similiar to the opening of "number of the beast" by maiden, but he didn't even know maiden at the time. Plus Suicidal tendancies I beleive started around the time this song came out so it may be the other way, or not.
@CJbass420 At one point I wrote a song about a couple guys who harassed me with the hellfire damnation save myself crap, and it came out sounding eerily like "Oi Oi Deacon" by The Showcase Showdown. It was accidental, and only shared a few unique terms like "sacristy" and an almost similar chord progression. I had to have other people hear it. 1 of the 8 noticed and pointed it out, so I kept it, but originality is important enough (especially as a "punk") so I'd scrap it if they all heard it.
@AdamRainStopper You are totally clueless. This song was made before Suicidal Tendencies, NOFX, or OFFSPRING ever even put out an album. Back in the day there was a word for people like you... POSEUR...and it wasn't safe to be one back then either..js
@DiscipleofRah How much time behind the wall have you done sweetheart? How many of your teeth have been knocked out by a flashlight crammed in your mouth while they kicked you in the jaw? You can call me whatever you want over the internet, and it means absolutely nothing. For all I know, you are some poor little rich kid who just learned a new word and decided to attach it to someone he knows nothing about. You talk about it not being "safe" to be a "poseur" from the safety of your computer?
@AdamRainStopper You made an uneducated comment, I gave you the facts. I lived the scene you probably wish you could have been a part of. I am just telling you how it was back in the 80's when it came to knowing your music. Go ahead and try to bait me into a pointless argument about who is who. I know who I am. I am not scared of you so act tough all you want. Tell yourself whatever you want to feel better. Just know what your talking about before you decide to have an opinion.
@DiscipleofRah You made a statement that went something like this:
You're clueless...back in the day...poser...wasn't safe to be a poser (only you spelled it differently I think)
I replied to that, rather than bothering to respond to the crap about putting out albums (you know, sometimes bands don't release an album a few weeks after they start playing together, but they still are a band and have songs too) I replied to your persona;l attack on me. I "baited" you? I wasn't even talking to you!
@DiscipleofRah Oh, and to address the "lived the scene" bit..no, I wasn't going to shows in 1980, I was born in 1980. However, the "scene" of the late '80s wasn't exactly a positive experience. It was a "scene" full of people who competed for who had been longest without a shower, and they treated me with contempt because I was young. At 13 I decided I would never allow myself to be classified as a "scenester". I LIKE being on stage and seeing young kids at their first show. It's all about them.
@AdamRainStopper Boo whoo. Maybe we should call you AdamRainDropper for all the crying your doing. Kids of all ages were welcome in the day but you had to know your sh*t. Think about this: if you have been "apart of this music" for all this time and still don't know who is who-- do you think maybe that's why the kids back then didn't like you which is why the general response to you now is KNOW YOUR MUSIC BEFORE YOU COMMENT? Have a nice day.
@runwtscissors "Send Me Your Money" was one of the songs ST had on their first demo, which my sister owns a copy of, and she bought it at a show in the spring of '81. Of course it's all irrelevant, because I was making a crack about it, and I don't really think that Bad Religion would need to steal material from one of the most tongue in cheek hardcore bands ever to write a 45 second song. As far as writing goes, Bad Religion are easily a few steps above stuff like "all I wanted was a pepsi"...
@AdamRainStopper check your facts, plagiarizing. Bad Religion did not come out before Suicidal, ( Sarcatic remark ) well at least not for 2 years or so ( another sarcastic remark ) For USA Punk, Bad Religion is one of the founders. Look at the year this album came out. Yes, Album. Suicidal- band founded in 1981 in Venice. BR-band that formed in Los Angeles in 1979. Both great bands. But before you go stating plagerizm, read up a bit.
@seagod07 This album came out in 81. ST and BR played the same places and shared a lot of material, but very soon after, BR surpassed the rest of the local scene in musical ability. They wrote songs with deep meaning, which quickly got them labeled as being not punk enough by the self-professed punk elite.
So did you even READ the comment you're replying to? The only reason I mentioned that ST was around then was because people on here were claiming they formed in '83. I was correcting them.
@BillHicks420 This song is similar to a suicidal song, not some shit off war on errorism. The song that I referred to as being similar to (which by the way doesn't mean copied from) an offspring song is not this song. This song is not similar to an offspring song. How many times do I have to say that before you people get it? "Shattered Faith" by BR, same chord progression, same melody, similar tempo as an offspring song. Shattered Faith is from a recent BR album. Not 1981. Read, THEN write.
@AdamRainStopper "How many times do I have to say that before you people get it?" Don't be such a douche. If you had any self-insight you would obviously see that any misunderstanding is your fault, suggested maybe by the amount of times you "have to say that".
@BillHicks420 If I have to say the same thing multiple times for you to get what I actually said, I AM AT FAULT? I suppose I could put it in ALL CAPS, but then some idiot would say "you mad?" or "umad" or some other dumb shit. If you don't read what I wrote correctly, and confuse two separate things, that is not my fault. I should only have to say something once, but I said it multiple times to clarify. If you still misunderstand, it's intentional. Your "fail" comment was YOU being a douche.
@AdamRainStopper My FAIL comment wasn't THAT douchy. Maybe a bit, but. Your first sentence was "They are plagiarizing suicidal tendencies with the whole intro", which suggests that BR was doing it, then you go onwards. Like I said, if several people has commented/misunderstood, that should give you a hint that YOU communicated poorly.
@BillHicks420 That is the problem. You are quoting (and probably only paid any attention to) they first sentence of a comment that was a full 500 characters long. The ST song to which I compared this one wasn't released on a record until later, but it was written, performed live, and recorded on a demo in the spring of 1981. It was an odd similarity which I pointed out, and yeah, I said "plagiarism", somewhat sarcastically, but sarcasm is a complex thing. If you don't get it, it's ok.
@AdamRainStopper Nope, I read the rest. But it was only in the last sentence or so you say what you intended your whole text to be about, I*m guessing most people missed that part. It was your own fault, but you can't seem to admit that you communicated it wrongly, whatever, I'm not arguing with you anymore, you're too stubborn. Like YOU said yourself; SEVERAL PEOPLE misunderstood, the fault clearly lies with your communication, justify it however you like, I don't give a fuck. Good bye.
@BillHicks420 Several people didn't "misunderstand" the same thing you did, different people said different stupid shit. A couple mixed it up like you and if you're telling me that I should expect to have to write for retards, this is a Bad Religion video, not the Glenn Beck show. If you can't read very well, then you shouldn't reply to something that is written. 500 characters isn't very long, so if you miss something because it's "only in the LAST SENTENCE" you are just stupid. Not my fault.
@AdamRainStopper Hahahaha your apologetic antics are pathetic, just like you. No dignity, no self-insight. You STILL refuse to admit that your first comment was written with retarded communication skills, yet you try to put the blame on others. Again, you're pathetic. I'm TRULY done now, you're sad.
@BillHicks420 Apologetic? I don't know what you are "misunderstanding" NOW, but I am not sorry about your stupidity, your selective interpretation, or your lack of ability to read. Go get fucked. You keep saying "I'm done", but only after taking one last shot ..... the last word .....
Well, once again, if you are going to reply to a comment, read the whole thing. That isn't complicated, just because a majority seems to have a problem with it doesn't mean shit. The majority isn't always right.
@chrishirschfeld I didn't compare this song to an offspring song, I compared "shattered faith" to an offspring song. I compared this song to "send me your money" by suicidal tendencies. This song is also not from 1984, it's from 1981. This discussion is also several months old, which means I have to go back and read old comments and replies every time someone else says something to me in response to a comment that they evidently didn't read.
wow, huh, psh mr 'bad religions' u done nothing but lies, government nothing but trash, they r fools, those money u give is to improve the church, and help the poor/other activity, its true cos i was there, what the r u talking about qwqwregis? GOD(JESUS CHRIST) !DOES! EXIST God the father is spirit and those who need to kno inperson God the son,Jesus Christ came to earth and died for u,the price of sin is payd off, only when u believe in Jesus, this shit u see is path to rapture, where the devil rules 7yr
@darkwolfman23 it aint fairytale..fairytales is where i it say once upon a time theres this theres that...my bible is not fooling around..alright...in the book of revolation, what has been wrotten is what has happend already some of it...the bible, king james version...was made 2000 years ago or more..the word of god has spoken the truth..YOU GROW UP FOOL!
@westwing23 oh wheres your proof hum? your a fucking dumbass and learn to spell you cock mongering fucktard ~ darkwolfs friends~ all your doing here is trolling, otherwise you would'int be on this vid you biblefucker. my bets your fat ass fuck and sit on your ass and troll,im prejudice against fattys, i <3 social Darwinism! do us a favor and go take yourself out of the gene pool when need scientist not religious fucks. god will get you no where in life.
@darkwolfman23 ok,you are just not worth my time,i tried, well yeah because im not done with school bitch. darwolfs?ok nerd,i aint fat hater:) im a very nice fit man, aight fine..go back to your world scream out ur a monkey,as a career maybe...but needing help in life..thats what jesus includes..alot...im used to be like you,i hate on everything but world,k i was struggling my ass off not know whats better...then my best friend introduce me the bible, fuck it i kept reading it,things got lot better
This song exposes the poison that is religion, the evidence is obvious, but you still obey and follow superstition from the dark ages AND we put down sheep:)
God Does Not Exist...God is your fear of dying.. I'm no kind of a Top Inteligent person but i think the universe might not depend of someone or just something..today there's no known explanation for the existence of things but we just don't know it.. there is aways some explanation...and even we never know what it is.. it's kinda selfish behavior to say things depends of someone.. cause things obviously are part of cause and consequence.. just think about it!
God exists, but he doesn't watch over us, the universe its to big. If he DID come down here again, his words towards the church would be something like this "What the fuck is this shit".
There is a distinct difference between spirtualism and religion. Religion is the business that try to manage the spiritual welfare of it's customers. If your religion(not your brand of religion...but your personal religious choice.) has a strong spiritual foundation then you are a benefit. If you contain hollow religion without spirtual foundation then you are ego..ego is the opposite of God. Seperation from ego and spiritual understanding are destroyed by the selfish endeavors of weak people.
They call these people in middle america infused in their religion and without a mind the "silent majority". Sadly the majority of them aren't silent, they are blatant loud idiots without any clear direction attacking women forced to have abortions due to medical conditions out of their rites. Supporting churches where they're sons and daughters are molested. Supporting wars that should have never been started in the first place, and then having the nerve to say capitalism is justiceFUCK SOCIETY
Also for bad religion songs u can't really take the Christian bashing literally cuz they try to promote a better person. So look at it this way they are trying to teach that we shouldn't dwell in our money but help others. I love Bad Religion. I'm a Christian btw. They speak to me through the lessons in their songs. I will forever and always love BR.
@rockerep I totally agree, it's not so much that they hate Christianity, it's the blatant intolerance for individuality and freedom by the Church that they are criticizing and satirizing.
why are people approaching this song as is it speaks about all Christian churches? it's solely about the tendancy for blindly faithful people to give the power of money to the church (often way more than it needs) and the fact that many churches take advantage of their followers since they essentially have control over those people (who follow blindly). sure, some don't, but many have and do.
"build a million dallor church with money spent on god's research" haah that's true it's a waste for tax payers money to research something we've never accually found hard evindence to prove it, accept a bunch of manuscripts written by people who wanted to find a way to harness power and become in control.....well just finish listening to whole album on here ..Thank dude that put it up, i like the user name cuntsound
I went to the same church for about 6 years or so, and the preacher even told us that tithes and stuff went to utilities and whatnot, as well as foreign mission. It wasn't like "Oh, give me your money and you'll be saved." It was more like "Hey, we could use some help here, because we want a place to worship."
na i was in a school where it was all about god they made you race shit and give money "for the poor" but just when the founds were full the principal came out with his big and new mustang into the school. fuck all that shit if they wanted to help they would have gave all the money to the poor and not to a golden church
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
life with christ is sacrifice. people who lust after money whether a businessman, televangelist, or automechanic, that is putting money before God. a false Idol. These 'religious types' are going to be held to a higher account because they are defiling God's name by claiming their personal desires are his will. The money given to church is meant to help the poor not make the clergy rich. That is what Jesus taught and what we have forgotten.
@robley72 Money is not evil - the LOVE of money however, is the root of ALL kinds of evil. Also - when you say clergy, please be advised that this is the Catholic Church and not all Christian churches are like that.
@sly2kusa hmm, YOU saw the 20-somethingth melbourne Great Debate (or whatever it's called) "Money Is The Root Of All Evil", didnt you? damn that was funny :D
@robley72 LOVE of money is the root of evil...not money....celibacy leads to molestation..abstain from sex for 20 or 30 years, you will eventually be fuckin somethin.
@MetallicAciDD Not only that, they included the 666 in every bar code, which is on every product you have to buy with money. God was not at all the one who made money, people did. And they knew it was evil when they invented it.
Pah! Really now?! Are you kidding with me here? You were 36 years old and you didn't have a clue in the world what the term MANMADE meant? Dude, employees on the East Coast make that money from harvested materials, throw it through a facility with machinery to maintain, and pull it out, toss it into trucks, and distribute it nationwide. I was 10 when I learned this stuff man, come on!
Look, I'm an atheist, and I love Bad Religion, but it's only commonsense that churches need money for all sorts of things. Utilities, staff wages, rent, maintenance, materials, and foreign missions. Not all preachers are your slick-haired, plastic tree televangelists living the "good life."
As a former Christian, I can assure you they make no bones about it that your tithes and offerings go to practicable Church needs. Not once have I heard a preacher say giving their money will save them. Maybe a few sleazy televangelists have, I don't know. Let's focus on the issues. There is problems aplenty with religion to where we don't need to create trouble. The flow of capital is inseparable to the modern lifestyle. I don't spurn religion because preachers make a living.
i apoligize ( that means a lot coming from me[14 year old boy]) christains arn't as bad at times, its the born agains, and the prods, and the caths that are the money grabin people i can't stand :(
catholic church is the church that doesnt ask you money dude. its the old roman church...
these new presbiterians and all shit that ask for money...
here in brazil the priests of evangelistic churches ask you for money and if you give like 10 bucks they'll scream: 10 BUCKS? THATS ALL? GOD GAVE YOU YOUR LIFE AND THATS ALL YOU CAN GIVE HIM?!?! while people who give a lot are said to be "good generous people"
i will admit that almost all churches like that big mormon church and almost ALL caholic churches and almost all christian churches do that.thatshow there preacher get big fancy cars.
This song is great for the fact there are a lot of chruches that give money into other services that help the need and poor and people that really need it. My chruch use our money for good use thats a relif in this world
lol this is so damn true it is scary the church i went to before i became atheist would never give the money to their missions like a small percent went to the missions the rest went to lobbying groups who were fighting to censor tv radio and make sure that the church was not opposed
lol i hate government it sucks yeah were free not men can choose if we have children but the cant get their balls burn off wtf we dont need cotreceptives we need less dicks lmmfao 0:) my opinon

AdamRainStopper 8 months ago
@AdamRainStopper
1. Nobody should be allowed to "own" pieces of music
also, punk is too simple a music for people to expect no repetition. It's either good or bad, your cup of tea or not.
2. The War on Errorism (the idiots are taking over) is from 2003, The Process of Belief (shattered faith) is from 2002
cuntsound 8 months ago 18
@cuntsound I was mixed up.. "epiphany" has the NOT very simple bassline of "stickin' in my eye", not "the idiots". The "shattered faith" chorus is the same melody and guitar riff, as well as very similar lyrical structure, and that song was one of the pop/so-cal(led) punk songs that had a spot on the charts in the late 90's when every band was claiming to be heavily influenced by punk. I'm not saying they took something "owned" by someone else, just observing the similarity. I love Bad Religion.
AdamRainStopper 8 months ago
@cuntsound - if u believe what you said your an idiot - All those bands FOLLOWED Bad Religion....BR put this out in 81'. Get your facts right before spewing nonsense. Suicidal's 1st album was in 83'. If anything you gotta go further back to the Ramones etc for who BR followed...
MrSk8ordye 8 months ago
@AdamRainStopper Also-Greg Graffin writes in his memoirs of LA punk that the Venice crew-ST-came around about 2 years into BR, and they were at the first ST show-to which they already had written alot of how could hell.
badreligion9494 7 months ago
@AdamRainStopper If I'm not wrong, Offspring borrowed that melody from BR's discarded songs. Brett used to provide them with the occasional melody. Later, BR decided to reuse it as a B-side. So the mystery is solved. Anyways, a punk song is so much more than the melody.
AdriLeverkuhn 7 months ago
@AdamRainStopper And regarding Sucidal Tendencies, that band was formed in 1983, and this BR song is from an 1981 album, so check your facts.

AdamRainStopper 7 months ago
@AdamRainStopper
Without capital incentive, music ceases to exist.
mikeymacaque 7 months ago 4
@mikeymacaque bad commercial music a la nickleback mayhaps. I would have no problem with music like that to cease existing.
cuntsound 7 months ago 4
@cuntsound
The bands have to pay for their recordings somehow... Studios don't just give out studio time.
mikeymacaque 7 months ago
@mikeymacaque Check my channel. I barely break even if you DON'T count the cost of guitar and bass strings, amplifier tubes, and drum-heads, and maintenance for my equipment, but just enough to cover another pack of blank CD's when I sell 20 at a show that I play for free. I have no capital incentive. But I would be pretty pissed if someone covered it and forgot to mention that it wasn't their's. I post music on YT and email MP3's/WMA's free because it is free for me, CD's pay for themselves.
AdamRainStopper 7 months ago
@AdamRainStopper
But for bands to put their full effort and make it a living, there needs to be some reward. I'm not saying hobbyists can't do it, but for bands to play full time and keep playing full time, there needs to be some payment. And while I agree that if it ain't cheap, it ain't punk, there needs to be something to put food on the table.
mikeymacaque 7 months ago
@mikeymacaque Ok, you are calling me a "hobbyist" because you haven't had the opportunity to buy my music at FYE? This conversation is over then.
AdamRainStopper 7 months ago
@AdamRainStopper
I wasn't calling you anything, don't strap your bra on so tight homeboy. I was saying that if somebody wants to pay the bills by playing music and hot having a day job, there needs to be a capital incentive. This capitalism is evil shit is bullshit.
mikeymacaque 7 months ago
@mikeymacaque I never said anything about capitalism or business or even claimed that it is wrong to accept a record deal, as long as it doesn't require you to adjust you music to fit the market and avoid subject matter that would offend shareholders. You should be saying this crap to the other guy. HOWEVER, to say that "to play music full-time there must be capital incentive" is simply ludicrous. I record 15-30 hours a week and work a day job. Both are possible because I'm not lazy.
AdamRainStopper 7 months ago
@AdamRainStopper Alot of bands do that, in fact the offspring is one of them. Like their song, "why don't you get a job" in the chorus they clearly mimick the ryhtym to the beatles "obla di obla da" and in the song "you're gonna go far kid" the pre-chorus is a total rip from a muse song. I've been told by a friend that another part of that song is also a rip from some fall out boy song, though I don't listen to FOB so i cant say what riff and what song it's from.
CJbass420 6 months ago
@CJbass420 Yes, I know, a lot of bands do that, and then others don't. Anyone who's ever listened to a song is going to be influenced in some small way by it, but I don't copy or "borrow" for my stuff, at least not in any way that I am conscious of it, because I want my material to be original. I have been told I write similar to this guy or that guy, but not in the same way that these bands are similar. Either way, you are merely repeating what I already said, but adding that other bands do it.
AdamRainStopper 6 months ago
@AdamRainStopper Definitly I agree, some bands go too far with it, like Zeppelin, even though I love them, they stole alot. Sometimes you just can't help it though, I've written riffs and then heard riffs just like it. My friend wrote a riff that was pretty similiar to the opening of "number of the beast" by maiden, but he didn't even know maiden at the time. Plus Suicidal tendancies I beleive started around the time this song came out so it may be the other way, or not.
CJbass420 6 months ago
@CJbass420 At one point I wrote a song about a couple guys who harassed me with the hellfire damnation save myself crap, and it came out sounding eerily like "Oi Oi Deacon" by The Showcase Showdown. It was accidental, and only shared a few unique terms like "sacristy" and an almost similar chord progression. I had to have other people hear it. 1 of the 8 noticed and pointed it out, so I kept it, but originality is important enough (especially as a "punk") so I'd scrap it if they all heard it.
AdamRainStopper 6 months ago
@AdamRainStopper You are totally clueless. This song was made before Suicidal Tendencies, NOFX, or OFFSPRING ever even put out an album. Back in the day there was a word for people like you... POSEUR...and it wasn't safe to be one back then either..js
DiscipleofRah 6 months ago
@DiscipleofRah How much time behind the wall have you done sweetheart? How many of your teeth have been knocked out by a flashlight crammed in your mouth while they kicked you in the jaw? You can call me whatever you want over the internet, and it means absolutely nothing. For all I know, you are some poor little rich kid who just learned a new word and decided to attach it to someone he knows nothing about. You talk about it not being "safe" to be a "poseur" from the safety of your computer?
AdamRainStopper 6 months ago
@AdamRainStopper You made an uneducated comment, I gave you the facts. I lived the scene you probably wish you could have been a part of. I am just telling you how it was back in the 80's when it came to knowing your music. Go ahead and try to bait me into a pointless argument about who is who. I know who I am. I am not scared of you so act tough all you want. Tell yourself whatever you want to feel better. Just know what your talking about before you decide to have an opinion.
DiscipleofRah 6 months ago
@DiscipleofRah You made a statement that went something like this:
You're clueless...back in the day...poser...wasn't safe to be a poser (only you spelled it differently I think)
I replied to that, rather than bothering to respond to the crap about putting out albums (you know, sometimes bands don't release an album a few weeks after they start playing together, but they still are a band and have songs too) I replied to your persona;l attack on me. I "baited" you? I wasn't even talking to you!
AdamRainStopper 6 months ago
@DiscipleofRah Oh, and to address the "lived the scene" bit..no, I wasn't going to shows in 1980, I was born in 1980. However, the "scene" of the late '80s wasn't exactly a positive experience. It was a "scene" full of people who competed for who had been longest without a shower, and they treated me with contempt because I was young. At 13 I decided I would never allow myself to be classified as a "scenester". I LIKE being on stage and seeing young kids at their first show. It's all about them.
AdamRainStopper 6 months ago
@AdamRainStopper Boo whoo. Maybe we should call you AdamRainDropper for all the crying your doing. Kids of all ages were welcome in the day but you had to know your sh*t. Think about this: if you have been "apart of this music" for all this time and still don't know who is who-- do you think maybe that's why the kids back then didn't like you which is why the general response to you now is KNOW YOUR MUSIC BEFORE YOU COMMENT? Have a nice day.
DiscipleofRah 6 months ago
@AdamRainStopper
WOW way to not know what you're talking about!!! this is from an album from 81 or 82 before any of that.
runwtscissors 6 months ago
@runwtscissors "Send Me Your Money" was one of the songs ST had on their first demo, which my sister owns a copy of, and she bought it at a show in the spring of '81. Of course it's all irrelevant, because I was making a crack about it, and I don't really think that Bad Religion would need to steal material from one of the most tongue in cheek hardcore bands ever to write a 45 second song. As far as writing goes, Bad Religion are easily a few steps above stuff like "all I wanted was a pepsi"...
AdamRainStopper 6 months ago
@AdamRainStopper check your facts, plagiarizing. Bad Religion did not come out before Suicidal, ( Sarcatic remark ) well at least not for 2 years or so ( another sarcastic remark ) For USA Punk, Bad Religion is one of the founders. Look at the year this album came out. Yes, Album. Suicidal- band founded in 1981 in Venice. BR-band that formed in Los Angeles in 1979. Both great bands. But before you go stating plagerizm, read up a bit.
seagod07 6 months ago
@seagod07 This album came out in 81. ST and BR played the same places and shared a lot of material, but very soon after, BR surpassed the rest of the local scene in musical ability. They wrote songs with deep meaning, which quickly got them labeled as being not punk enough by the self-professed punk elite.
So did you even READ the comment you're replying to? The only reason I mentioned that ST was around then was because people on here were claiming they formed in '83. I was correcting them.
AdamRainStopper 5 months ago
@AdamRainStopper This song is from 1981, War On Errorism album by NOFX is from 2003. FAIL. The Offspring FORMED in 1986
BillHicks420 4 months ago
@BillHicks420 This song is similar to a suicidal song, not some shit off war on errorism. The song that I referred to as being similar to (which by the way doesn't mean copied from) an offspring song is not this song. This song is not similar to an offspring song. How many times do I have to say that before you people get it? "Shattered Faith" by BR, same chord progression, same melody, similar tempo as an offspring song. Shattered Faith is from a recent BR album. Not 1981. Read, THEN write.
AdamRainStopper 4 months ago
@AdamRainStopper "How many times do I have to say that before you people get it?" Don't be such a douche. If you had any self-insight you would obviously see that any misunderstanding is your fault, suggested maybe by the amount of times you "have to say that".
BillHicks420 4 months ago
@BillHicks420 If I have to say the same thing multiple times for you to get what I actually said, I AM AT FAULT? I suppose I could put it in ALL CAPS, but then some idiot would say "you mad?" or "umad" or some other dumb shit. If you don't read what I wrote correctly, and confuse two separate things, that is not my fault. I should only have to say something once, but I said it multiple times to clarify. If you still misunderstand, it's intentional. Your "fail" comment was YOU being a douche.
AdamRainStopper 4 months ago
@AdamRainStopper My FAIL comment wasn't THAT douchy. Maybe a bit, but. Your first sentence was "They are plagiarizing suicidal tendencies with the whole intro", which suggests that BR was doing it, then you go onwards. Like I said, if several people has commented/misunderstood, that should give you a hint that YOU communicated poorly.
BillHicks420 4 months ago
@BillHicks420 That is the problem. You are quoting (and probably only paid any attention to) they first sentence of a comment that was a full 500 characters long. The ST song to which I compared this one wasn't released on a record until later, but it was written, performed live, and recorded on a demo in the spring of 1981. It was an odd similarity which I pointed out, and yeah, I said "plagiarism", somewhat sarcastically, but sarcasm is a complex thing. If you don't get it, it's ok.
AdamRainStopper 4 months ago
@AdamRainStopper Nope, I read the rest. But it was only in the last sentence or so you say what you intended your whole text to be about, I*m guessing most people missed that part. It was your own fault, but you can't seem to admit that you communicated it wrongly, whatever, I'm not arguing with you anymore, you're too stubborn. Like YOU said yourself; SEVERAL PEOPLE misunderstood, the fault clearly lies with your communication, justify it however you like, I don't give a fuck. Good bye.
BillHicks420 4 months ago
@BillHicks420 Several people didn't "misunderstand" the same thing you did, different people said different stupid shit. A couple mixed it up like you and if you're telling me that I should expect to have to write for retards, this is a Bad Religion video, not the Glenn Beck show. If you can't read very well, then you shouldn't reply to something that is written. 500 characters isn't very long, so if you miss something because it's "only in the LAST SENTENCE" you are just stupid. Not my fault.
AdamRainStopper 4 months ago
@AdamRainStopper Hahahaha your apologetic antics are pathetic, just like you. No dignity, no self-insight. You STILL refuse to admit that your first comment was written with retarded communication skills, yet you try to put the blame on others. Again, you're pathetic. I'm TRULY done now, you're sad.
BillHicks420 4 months ago
@BillHicks420 Apologetic? I don't know what you are "misunderstanding" NOW, but I am not sorry about your stupidity, your selective interpretation, or your lack of ability to read. Go get fucked. You keep saying "I'm done", but only after taking one last shot ..... the last word .....
Well, once again, if you are going to reply to a comment, read the whole thing. That isn't complicated, just because a majority seems to have a problem with it doesn't mean shit. The majority isn't always right.
AdamRainStopper 4 months ago
@AdamRainStopper This song is from 1984 or so, back when the Offspring were still in elementary school.
chrishirschfeld 1 month ago
@chrishirschfeld I didn't compare this song to an offspring song, I compared "shattered faith" to an offspring song. I compared this song to "send me your money" by suicidal tendencies. This song is also not from 1984, it's from 1981. This discussion is also several months old, which means I have to go back and read old comments and replies every time someone else says something to me in response to a comment that they evidently didn't read.

Seperation from ego and spiritual understanding are destroyed by the selfish endeavors of weak people.

why are people approaching this song as is it speaks about all Christian churches? it's solely about the tendancy for blindly faithful people to give the power of money to the church (often way more than it needs) and the fact that many churches take advantage of their followers since they essentially have control over those people (who follow blindly). sure, some don't, but many have and do.

I went to the same church for about 6 years or so, and the preacher even told us that tithes and stuff went to utilities and whatnot, as well as foreign mission. It wasn't like "Oh, give me your money and you'll be saved." It was more like "Hey, we could use some help here, because we want a place to worship."

life with christ is sacrifice. people who lust after money whether a businessman, televangelist, or automechanic, that is putting money before God. a false Idol. These 'religious types' are going to be held to a higher account because they are defiling God's name by claiming their personal desires are his will. The money given to church is meant to help the poor not make the clergy rich. That is what Jesus taught and what we have forgotten.

Not all preachers are your slick-haired, plastic tree televangelists living the "good life."

actualy, if they needed the money for the church theyed ask, not try to trick everyone into thinking that there money will save them

I don't spurn religion because preachers make a living.

catholic church is the church that doesnt ask you money dude. its the old roman church...
these new presbiterians and all shit that ask for money...
here in brazil the priests of evangelistic churches ask you for money and if you give like 10 bucks they'll scream: 10 BUCKS? THATS ALL? GOD GAVE YOU YOUR LIFE AND THATS ALL YOU CAN GIVE HIM?!?! while people who give a lot are said to be "good generous people"

lol this is so damn true it is scary the church i went to before i became atheist would never give the money to their missions like a small percent went to the missions the rest went to lobbying groups who were fighting to censor tv radio and make sure that the church was not opposed

Watching this and readign the lyrics, I'm actually considering the veteran fans' point of view that old BR > new BR.
I'd be sold if it weren't for Greg's massive vocal improvement over time.
