Perhaps the best version out there. I especially love how she is able to keep us on track with the pulse throughout the two major hemiola sections (0:25 and even more incredibly at 1:38) by a very slightly longer bow on every few large beats.
@GMElias2863 the sections you mention are one of the most intriguing aspects of this mvt. Technically they are not hemiolas; what happens in all the performances is a shift of 3 16th notes in the perception of the beat, because the bass is heard stronger and it feels natural to play it that way. Not sure Bach wanted it. I tried to fight this tendency when practicing it, but I can't help it :( I heard a couple of players who were able to keep the meter the way it's written, sounds awesome too :)
@daniluzzu I agree. I remember looking at this piece (back when I played violin more seriously) and thought that this was one of the more beautifully written sections. What I find remarkable is the way in which Hahn brings out the melody (hemiola), even taking a little time to reset the pulse so that we, as listeners, know where we are. I haven't found anyone who is as clear about the two aspects of this hemiola as this performance is. Bach would love this! GL in your own practice:)
BWV 1006 is very beautiful. I have commend Hilary Hahn on her interpretation for this piece. She is able to project the melody as well as being able to keep the accompaniment notes to a lower dynamic such as 00:27 to 00:42. It is noticeable faster than the original tempo, but that can be sacrificed because of her clarity, dynamics (Flowing Forte at 1:20, amazing crescendos at 1:26, diminuendos at 1:05 and 1:18) There's many personal and fitting interpretations that Hilary Hahn does. New fan here
Indeed, the sound we would all like to have while playing this start of the Bach 3rd Partita. That Bach could not just play these, but actually compose them for himself, and that Hilary finds such depths in this piece...
@oOoOMEGAMIOoOo If you think otherwise then please give supporting evidence to support the existence of a loving caring omnipresent father figure. I see no evidence whatsoever for the existence such being any more than I can see evidence for the existence of the tooth fairy.
@enilrebmun ORLY? Look kiddo. How people played back then =/= what Bach had in mind. Bach's concept of sound was far beyond his period, and sometimes only modern instruments can bring a side of his real genius to fruition. For instance, the piano offers dynamics and suspension that the harpsichord cannot. Same can be said for playing style.
I am playing this currently...i only hope to sound as good as Hilary
