What a waste of our Federal tax dollars. STOP THE BLOODY Roundups and get rid of the 420,000 domestic cattle via grazing rights that only benefit who? The private cattle rancher. You don't see the cost of beef going down do you? This is idiotic!
I'm not opposed to the roundups (but not when they're overdone...the cattlemen can go to hell) but I see no GOOD reason to separate foals from their dams. Let them remain together.
Any issues I have with the roundups can be solved by applying consistent humane rules to the roundups and the handling of the horses.
If people would get the facts and not the soap box information on many issues, this world would be a lot better. BLM Mustangs are really unique animals. Once they trust you and they know you are not going to eat them, they become very close friends and insist on being touched and handled and look to you for guidance. It is too bad that even in the horse industry there are people who call the mustang a dink. Yet these same people buy horses with the same sire 6 times in the 5 generations.
I have read all 95 comments on this video and some are completely false. I have had cattle and horses over 25 years and any cattle rancher would not destroy the place that feeds his cows. Without grass the cattle won"t gain weight. Cattle do not pull the grass out of the ground. I also am a BLM Mustang owner, I have 8 mustangs and 15 other horses. They are easy to work with, if done in a gentle way. I am not a professional horse trainer, but rode all of them down the road on the third ride.
The BLM has paid Dave Cattoor Livestock, Inc. to roundup horses from the Calico mountains in Nevada for $1,200.00, The have rounded up over 1,900 but had to call it off because 48 horses have died and there have been 20+ miscaraiges. Everything you hear on this video is pure bullshit. These horses are all slaughter bound. Where do you think 260,000 wild horses and burros have gone since 1971? Do a little research and you will find the facts. Google Calico roundup and watch the videos.
then there shouldn't have been any injuries to a foal since thats what their bred to do is run. nutrution has everything to do with bone development, poor feed = poor bone strength
ever tubed a calf? or aged a cow... they have thick rough calouses above their bottom teeth. cows do not wrap their tongues around grass. who ever told u that was eithe r very silly or thought u were pretty gullible.
you don't have to believe ne one if you've seen it. really you've seen these foals. was this during your annual weekend adventure to nv? they probably did get lamed up. cause u know y? bad/no feed!! poor bone development from lack of calcium and phosphrus. they're rounded up just fine. the contractors they have now are careful about how they do things. and try to keep it as calm as they can.
they rotate the cattle.. it's called a winter permit and a summer permit. with the feed isn't growning the cows r off... meanwhile the horses are on. u c...?
i know what you said! and i think that u saying i shuldn't believe the blm cause theyr'e under invest. is dumb cause our congressmen are always under some sort of investigation!
i was raised outside i love seeing a wild horse. i was however raised by an ecologist and a rancher so i have been exposed to both sides of the road! and they need to be managed. man has screwed around enough with this situation that nature can not help it self.
let me take a guess.. ur from seattle, or vegas, or some other overpopulated city! and you jsut love sheryl crow. and youve had to buy a new copy of hildago cause ur old one is over played. and if u do have a horse. as soon as it drops below 40 degrees he has a blanket! and even thou u only ride him a day or two u make sure he has every supplement known to man!
there are field studies done everyyear. cattle are restricted from areas all the time! are horses restricted. no they go where they please. it's fact, do you really think the blm would want all this bad publicity? they survive on the public. ever thought that they're fighting this so har for no reason.
you seem kinda like one of those people.. that just kind absorbs what ever kindof bs another liberal is feeding you? how about you make a roadtrip and acctually see first hand how things really are
again as i questioned pillowfluffer.. where are the nas field officers. blm rangers and scientists are out all the time. i think they know a bit more.
they have them available for adoption... and they still can't get rid of them!! so.. make use of them somehow. and how do u know that there is not overpopulation or starvation. are you wlbiologist? an ecologist? odds r ur not.
no, beacuse in 1971 the gov. told ranchers get your horses off. the ones that were left were then property of blm, 50 yrs ago if u went out and looked at the wild horse heards you'd see oldtimers brands on the horses. those were the mares that they either didn't want, couldn't find, or they couldn't get them rounded up.
... In those days, you seldom saw a big herd of cows maybe fifty or sixty head, butthere was a bunch of horses on every ridge. (Western Horseman May 2008 Cliff Wolfe)
They sold remount horses to the Army, saddle horses to area ranches, and semi-broke teams to the Midwest farms and Deep South cotton fields. However slaughter horses were the core of their business. They sent train loads of horses to slaughter in the eastern United States and Europe. (Western Horseman May 2008 Cliff Wolfe) The horses raised were hardy enough to bear the weather and rugged enough to withstand the rough terrain. ...
because there wern't wh's on the range wild horse populations were the same as wild cow populations now! the slaughter horses were excess work horses.
i don't know where you got your information but it's incorrect. most ranches in oregon, cali, and nevada raised horses for those reasons. it's history, not a fairy tale.
there were not two millon "wild horses". out west the horses that u call wild were privatly owned. it wasn't until 1971 that they could become wild. and yes they were bred for slaughter. the ranches had throughbred studs for their saddle horses. and draft studs for their work/ slaughter horses. that would be y many mustangs have crested necks, feathers, and short backs,,, all traits of the draft horse. theres books that i can cite as sources!
mustangs don't go to slaughter. you don't even own them the first yr after you adopt them.. then u cant sell them for like 3 yrs. they don't go to slaughter on other countries.. they should should but they don't... ie hati, ethiopia... other starving countries.
Look at them. Broken spirits. Broken family bands. Mares and foals separated in opposite corrals.
The BLM is mismanaging the wild horse into oblivion. One of the worst government agencies we have.
Listen to this BLM clown talk about adoptions for these horses. They have 33,000 already languishing in holding pens that they don't know what to do with!!!
Thank you for providing this follow-up on the round-up. Is there any footage on the actual round-up process? Can you change your title to include the words BLM or Mustang Round-up? The "related" videos to the side are showing non-BLM-mustang horse topics. Thus, this video won't show up in other BLM-mustang horse video "related videos" on the side and might be missed.
Thank you for your hard work - want others to see it as well - not just subscribers.
Sad...the foals and Mares were calling out to each other...Momma looking for her foal.

cows graze the same way as horses. cattle don't pull pasture. thats why farmers pasture their fields and don't have to reseed
