  • Wow, what a great musical performance. However, considering that this director has managed to get his kids to respond to BACKWARDS cues and such just because he is left-handed, I worry for their future... this band plays very well, and some may say that the set-up doesn't really matter, as long as the music is served. In most cases, I agree. However, I fear that these kids will go on to college and not be able to follow their new conductor because they have had this perspective cemented. IMHO

  • Speaking personally I've played for left handed and right conductors and quite a few with no baton at all. The key is to follow the beat and keep your eyes and ears open to what is going on. These kids play in other orchestras and bands so there really shouldn't be an issue. I've played for some terrible conductors where there is no direction or beat at all - that is a real pain! Thank you for your really positive response to what really matters - the level of performance. Really appreciated.

  • Sure, no problem. It's pretty obvious that music was very well-served in their performance. I thought my first statement was adequate to express my appreciation. I hope that this is not a sarcastic response from you. If you think that my opinion does not matter, that is fine, and you are free to express yours. However, I was merely expressing my professional opinion, and I think you need to apologize for the insinuation that I expressed a negative review of the Band's work. I did no such thing.

  • I wasn't insinuating anything at all. Indeed, if you read my comment again I actually thank you for your very positive views on the performance and appreciate your input. You are reading something in my post that simply isn't there. Roger conducts left handed and the kids follow him OK. They also follow the other conductors who work with them who are right handed. That's the only point I was making. Best regards.

  • I used to play principal trombone and when I first joined I didn't even notice that Mr Meaden was left-handed...It makes no difference whatsoever!

  • Is that because you ignored him? Just a thought........

  • WOOOOOOO
