  • ADRIAN BELEW!

  • Scarey song when tripping !

  • if you like this, you should check out 'making flippy floppy' from "Stop Making Sense"... its also fucking awesome

  • Tina Weymouth is a fucking God on bass. Stalwart, steady, with endurance and taste. She holds it down. I wish more bassist played like here.

  • fucking gods

  • Ok, I think this song puts energy (to me) to the once in a lifetime notion, that they later named.... , seriously I think that they were in the place where the light (infinite wisdom colloids with unity and power) hits, and that is perpetually changing,... so what ever that means to YOU. I think it means to me GRAB the moment that is a 'soon folding wave' in your world for fun!

  • I like this a great deal, and it surprised me that I only found it now,,, after all the noise I catalogued in my screener. some times it seems that the world is wrong, I the other heads have said ! & I think this was when they invented COCAINE

  • I like this a great deal, and it surprised me that I only found it now,,, after all the noise I catalogued in my screener. some times it seems that the world is wrong, I the other heads have said !

  • That guitar rift is pleasantly akin to the one you hear in BARE TREES by Fleetwood Mac

  • Mad tripping song !

  • flying to fuck !

  • This is RIDICULOUS. They start off great and it just becomes more and more and more infectious as it goes on, they could still be playing this in an alternative dimension, it'd be the best thing ever.

  • @sevendaughters ....so well said...fyi ..best LIVE Talking Heads album..."the name of this band is the talking heads" 1982 they do an awesome version of this song

  • but of course the real betty of this song is the bassist

  • the guitarist rminds me of sheldon fr big bang

  • Adrian Belew is so into it ! That was magical.

  • Monster grooves....

  • amazing song, amazing band.

    ...and Belew is God!

  • Grab the audio from this clip at soundnabber doht cohm.

  • @NeversaidYes YES HE LOOKS JUST LIKE GOB FROM ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT!!!

  • Great band!!! Tina Weymouth is a beauty!

  • dood !!! this f*g rrrrrox !!!

  • Hey, give it up for Tina, too. How many bass players have the confidence to welcome a better player (Busta Jones) into the band, and then stand up and match him note-for-note? Plus she looks great in that white dress. And further proof that wimps can't play bass: check out her biceps.

  • For me the song of 1997/1980. Talking Heads reached it's top with this song.

  • Oh, and somebody needs to give it up for Chris Frantz (and drummers in general). That's a workout keeping that beat going.

  • killer bassline

  • I always think Will Arnett when I see Belew.

  • I am SPEECHLESS. Incredible!!!

  • This footage is without doubt one of the highlights of you tube...thank you!

  • WOW!! Great, Great song by a Great Great band! The Talking Heads with Adrian Belew on guitar? PRICELESS!

  • Those blue pants are great.

  • rhinos, crocs, and tweetie birds..no one before adrian...pure originality...top ten in my book too

  • Belew's guitar solos voted #48 in top 50 solos ever by Gibson

    Go Adrian!

  • @woodhousedouglas He's top ten in my book...

  • 8 viewers are behind the great curve...

  • Thanks a lot for uploading this great energetic performance!!!

The song shows a beautiful different way of 'apocalyptic' thinking.

  • Martina Weymouth is the best bass player in the world.

  • Fuck me, this is a blast from de groovy past.

  • adrian belew is awesome because he was in king crimson and played in frank zappas band, having this on your music resume means you can literally play anything.

  • wow sonic youth, (a fellow new york city band that came out in early 80's) would love to have made that solo Adrien played at 1:58. Talking Heads are a lot better of a band, but I still like SY more. Talking Heads can groove

  • @Ksimp9 Sonic Youth grew up on this....

  • @woowoo1967 I would hope so being from new york and being cool.

  • alchemist of the stratocaster

  • Possibly the worst editing/camera work in the history of editing/camera work. How they managed to show every square inch of the stage EXCEPT Belew on his second solo is amazing. No matter, still a great vid.

  • belew

  • I like the shot from behind the drums toward the end of this song. Watch the crowd getting into it.

  • Adrian Belew.

    That is all.

  • I MISS te 80's.... Great Band and song!! This decade sucks...

  • TALKING HEADS RETURN PLEASE I CANT FUCKING STAND ANY!!!!!!! OF THIS SHITTY STUPID FUCKING MUSIC NOWA DAYS SAVE US SAVE ME !!!!!!

  • The rhythmic layering in this is fantastic, as well as the vocal counterpoint. I believe Eno conceived all the 'response' backgrounds against which Byrne wrote the main vocal.

  • Love it. The debt to Fela Kuti's music should be acknowledged.

  • @hiddenfire65

well borrowing ideas from black musicians isn't really a new thing.

They also named a song of theirs after Fela.

Also Fela Kuti is amazing ♥

  • Oh man I think I just orgasmed.

  • @nasrmg

Wish I could find someone as moved by this music as you, whom I could date. Eyes on hands. Me and my sisters are always questioned as to why this is our favorite band. With live performances like this, why not.

I have this whole concert loaded as favorites and homage should be paid to all who have posted these. Only which I could buy it in DVD format.

  • @murl21 I liked Rome 1980 so much I did buy it in DVD format. I found it on the internet somewhere, but I've got the DVD

  • @selmore7463 me too mate, I need to own it just in case its removed from you tube!

  • WE WANT T.H. ! ! ! !

  • Coulda made all of their next 3 records w/ this lineup prefably live. Very canny and over the top.the mix of white and black styles almost competing w/ each other. Oh and there is that monster on stage called Belew!

  • the great curb

  • I like the creative editing. The director often focuses on one shot for ages, not like the ridiculous jump cuts in concert films now. Today they seem to think that no one has the patience or intelligence to absorb anything that lasts longer than one second.

  • @stratboy8 me too!

  • @stratboy8 yea., maybe this instant gratification Crap that happens now for the trending future i see, maybe it will end up being something that will pay off where I normally would assume the opposite

  • @imFlyPaper pay off by programming hte population to be unable to put together a thought that last for more than 1.6 seconds? that would be sweet

  • The guitar solos at 1:58 and 5:12 are sixty years ahead of their time.

  • @knueve83 Everything that Belew does comes from the future.

  • @knueve83 So this will be popular in about 30 years?

  • @knueve83 Those guitar solos transcend time and space. Belew is a madman

  • @knueve83 this whole band was 60 years ahead of their time. They still are!

  • @knueve83 So are his pants.

  • @knueve83 Kings New Clothes springs to mind. This was a superb band but Belew ruined it.

  • @fekkinloud66 How could Adrian fuck anything up?

  • @mrjesus1890 Maybe I'm being a bit harsh. I've seen Adrian live with Bowie & King Crimson and he is indeed a fantastic guitarist. I used to love this version of the 'heads but recently I find it a bit...I dunno..'arty?'

Great band but I prefer TH without the screaming solos.

  • @knueve83 Umm this concert was only thirty....Ohhh I get it :P

  • @knueve83 Tom Morello picks up andian belews style like vito Vito Bratta does to eddie van halen

  • How can anyone watch this video and start making comparisons with other artists? What is the point of comparing? This performance can stand on its own. Thanks for posting.

  • Great to see Adrian Belew in action, but where the hell was Eno? This is the best track from Remain In Light, and it's interesting to note that Robert Palmer contributed percussion to it, Chris Frantz having played on Palmer's Johnny and Mary.

  • @peterblack70 Eno? Eno isn't a live performer. The studio is his instrument. Has said he doesn't even like concerts and is himself, too physically frail to be onstage for long periods of time. Hasn't performed since 1976 with his band 801, I believe. If he has, I'm sure it was a limited performance.

  • the great curve

  • is this song about pointing plots on a graph?

  • Too good for words almost. The rhythm, the swing, the harmonies, THAT mental solo at the end, just fantastic. That's got to be one of the best live performances I've ever seen.

  • @TG312274

    agreed 100%

  • I cannot think of any gig that I'd rather have been at.

  • iam almost speechless !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fabulous to say the least

  • waaaaaauw,the crowd goes insane !!!!!!(so do I )

  • killer solo amazing tone

  • Thanks for uploading this & to copyright holders for not taking it down. What a great, impressive performance. So many great performers and brilliant compositions. Moving even on a bitty computer monitor with tiny speakers.

  • Fantastic! I wish I could travel back in time. That would certainly be a place I wont miss to see this. But it's great to see it here too. I think youtube may can be a great library - the chances are there... for all to access.

  • the most awesome thing i have ever seen

  • Comment removed

  • Ahhh, intense.

  • Sheer awesomeness -thx for uploading!

  • THIS gets me on the the dancefloor - best energi ever.

  • wauuuv This song gets me on the dancefloor - but im still waiting for a dancing place that plays good music like this.. lady gaga take i hike.

Greetings from Denmark to all Heads

  • TTTTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

  • Holy fuck I wish I was there.

  • Who needs the atomic clock when you have Chris Frantz?

  • Fuck being born in the 90s.

  • Amazing, totally

  • I wish the camera work had been a little better... would have been nicer to see Belew on his second solo, instead of 10 shots of Tina or a view from completely behind the band... that aside though, this is one of the sickest live performance videos I've seen in a long long time.

  • Attention all musicians....This is how you put the pedal to the floor...properly

  • I can only imagine what it must have been like to have seen Talking Heads on this tour had one not gotten the album first.

I mean, the Heads were great before this, but not like THAT. If you were just expecting Psychokiller and Take Me to the River and then they come onstage with Belew and a full band, playing this and Crosseyed and Painless, you probably got your pants blown off.

  • I am SOOOOO SOOOO sorry I missed this band live.

  • incredible!

  • The album - Remain in Light - in which this song is included is just marvellous.

But there are only few live performances posted here.

  • Comment removed

  • god damn this is fantastic...

  • The only bad part of this video is when Adrian is playing his solo the monkey who directed it seems to think its a bass solo and keeps showing Tina...

  • @SniderScion ,

you are absolutely right : /

  • Adrian Belew is crazy awesome and Tina Weymouth is damn fine, great show

  • check out andrew belew guitar at 1:58 and 5:12

  • @dashap1 adrien belew

  • This song makes me feel like a mollusk.

  • @EatPieYes I do not know exactly what You mean for "feeling like a mollusk" but I feel the same way. They carry us to the top. Kisses. Fabio

  • @idiamin59 This song and this performance is so overwhelmingingly good, it makes me feel so small and worthless, kind of like a mollusk. Can you dig that?

  • 376+

  • Have more fun on a stage then 1st graders have on a playground! The musical chemistry within this band is unlike any other!

  • i wish i was there!!!

  • th with a screaming pig second voice how much can a person bear

  • Wish they'd filmed 2nd lead break instead of bass ;-))) WiKKeD tho innit !!!

  • year 3000 funk!

  • there will never be music anywhere near as original or mind blowing again

  • radiohead comes close, but i agree.

  • @sydbarret and Enthused, your both wrong. Just look deeper

  • @johnisredhot ....give me an example of a band that comes close to this

  • although are thoroughly one of a kind

  • why have they got two basses going

  • 'cause Tina is so sexy on stage. In real she was mastermind of Tom Tom Club.

  • Why not?

  • @ hawkeyepearce: I don't quite think so. That some pretentious people make repetitive music, or that some repetitive music was made by pretentious people, may be closer to truth.

Presently I don't think I'd listening to this album for 30 years as you have, but I'm open-minded enough not to stop listening to it altogether.

  • These guys knew how to lay down a FIERCE groove.... Holy CR*P!

  • The only good song on the overrated Remain In Light, imo. Yeah the album is neither repulsive nor too challenging - so it's easy to profess to like - but you just won't fall in love with more than two of the songs, most of which are obviously pretentiously repetitive.

  • I fell in love with the first 5 so ha!

  • @floydfanTN: But you haven't given me a thumb down? If so, thx.

  • The only good song? I beg to differ. It's a great album. And it's not easy to profess to like. Turn up your hearing aid...

  • @PeterMayer: Then, as a musician yourself, you wish a music fan to suffer severe hear loss?

  • once in a lifetime is pure genious

  • @awnplmigo Wow, talk about comparing apples to oranges, bud. lol, "Doesn't have a good voice or charisma", that's beyond absurd. Millions of fans would beg to differ.

  • @barncat35 Bud, just like everyone, I can't help being quite interested in the works Brian Eno has taken part in. After Remain in Light, I open-mindedly bought and listened to Fear of Music (cos I quite liked "Cities"), yet I was disappointed again. You may love the arrangements, but Talking Heads really lack melodies, they're chiefly a novelty band, and an overrated one. I'd rather listen more to My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, doing without all the mediocre vocal tunes.

  • @awnplmigo you really are dilluded if you think talking heads are a novelty band.77 and more songs have tunes which are every bit as melodious as anything the beatles ever did

  • To call this a filmsy (or even flimsy) novelty song is one of the more audacious assertions I've heard in some time. David Byrne was never going to challenge Scott Walker or Otis Redding in the vocal stakes but he has a very distinctive, evocative and effective voice. Turning to the Floyd, the difference between Shine on You and this is cavernous. While I quite like the first 3 minutes of Shine on You it then becomes ponderous masterbation. This is urgent rhythmic melodic magnificence

  • @daegrant I haven't really written Talking Heads off, but I'm baffled that, so many years since punk has been out of fashion, Pink Floyd's music is still so often denounced as exceedingly pretentious. Along with prog rock, there are art rock, post-punk, etc., everybody, in trying to push the boundaries, has somehow taken risks. What's so wrong with the Floyd?

  • @awnplmigo david byrne is one of the most charismatic front men ever.and although i agree dark side is a better album, remain in light definitely comes close

  • @sydbarret1973 Thanks for honestly admitting that you think Dark Side is the superior one. And, you know, it has been astonishingly popular. Despite Johnny Rotten's hostility, I still don't get why '70s Pink Floyd are so notorious that almost no top musician has namechecked them.

  • I can't believe how stiff most of the crowd is. This song is hella funky!!!

  • koru2:

Raping the fucking guitar? Fantastic. I wonder why no one sued to this very day.

  • A friend of mine once described the main guitar solo in this as if someone was raping a guitar.

Best description I have yet to hear. 30 years later and this song still kicks ass.

  • oh my! Oh my goodness that was good. I feel soooo old.

  • this is almost too much awesome.

  • What a perfect comment. That says it all.

  • this song is dangerously good.

  • @iLargerPenis , f..k yourself, idiot.

  • in fact at this time talking heads were a band from another universe. you can feel this even 30 years later .... intelligence and magic!

  • @brouummmm Yes in fact many of my friends used to feel offended because I used to tell them that Talking heads were way ahead their time

  • tina is so hot!!!!!!

  • I've gotten to meet Adrian twice in the past two years. Once at a solo show and once with his Power Trio.

The guy is a ball of energy. It would be impossible to have a bad time with him in the room.

  • Adrian Belew is amazing! Wow I have followed his work with King Crimson, Laurie Anderson, and in discovering this work with the Talking Heads.

If only I could play guitar like him. Wow. bloody amazing.

  • Watch frank zappa's Baby Snakes film, Adrian tears it up

  • FZ discovered him before he played with any of those folks. His work with Zappa is excellent also. Cheers....

  • Breathtaking.

  • The more I watch this video, the more in awe I get of Adrian Belew.

  • Comment removed

  • I Talking Heads su Raiuno? Sto sognando

  • i'd rather have tina play me...

  • like bass.

  • well she is pretty good at keepin a beat

  • holy shit! funkiest thing EVER!!!!!!!!!!

  • this has to be possibly the most fuckin rocking song ever

  • it was great, it really was, but why did Tina get a bass solo when the black guy was doing most of it?

  • I like the Britney Spears version best.

  • You suck.
