I'm getting a 5870 near the end of summer, i have a 550 watt PSU from OCZ and I just found out it's not enough...
I can barly afford a 5870 as it is so i'm going to have to wait and buy a larger PSU when I can. Do you know how that process would be like? i'm upgrading from a 5770, is there any sort of process to follow upgrading from a 5770 to a 5870? should i install the drivers for the 5870 before I shut it down for months?
@agearmaster1 No, no, no... ATI and AMD recommend 500 or 550 as minimum. If that weren't true, someone would sue them. Like happened with Windows Vista. The fact the guy in the store told you you need 650 minimum wanted you to buy it, which you did. Same happened to me with the old 4850; moved from 450 to 550 altho 450 can run perfectly fine. Also, as long as you have a dual core processor with 3.2 ghz each core - youll be bottlekneck free. Get your facts straight.
A "normal" PC with a pretty good quad core (i% at least), two SATA-HDDs, BluRay-ROM, 8GB RAM DDR3 takes with a Radeon 5870 around 350-380watt - tested and also confirmed by nearly every review on that card.
Yeah, you should anyway have at least 20% of "space" between maximum need and what your psu delivers at maximum. So with a 600watt psu you won't do anything wrong. But anything higher than that is just not necessary and generally more expensive.
@agearmaster1 not really, as long as you have an 80+ effecient psu, you can get get 1000 watt if you wanted. best off getting a psu once rather than keep changing psu's everytime you upgrade. 600watt is a little on the low side to be honest.
yeah... but you could buy a 5970 and get maybe even better perfomance for the same price....maybe...dont know what your prices are...but 2x 5850 are better than 5870
@darthvadermasterchie Depends, Crossfire can be a tad dodgy with certain games. Often developers need to do some reworking to take full advantage of Crossfire.
Would probably be faster 70% of the time, but I'd still go with a single 5870 because you wouldn't need to wait for game updates.
@znoozaros Crysis has no DX11, because it is a DX10 game. In fact, Crysis was made in 2007 and DX11 has been created in a second half of 2009. Pwnd...

gt9800 I have that card, lets just say its cheap and you can run games on high but expect some glitching :D im actually saving for this card. More bang for my buck
ye does any1 know when the *actualy* 5000 series drivers gonna com out, cuz really know 1 knows what these cards can do when they runnin on 4800 series driver...

Don't ask such a stupid question like this. Of course it wont lag.
But try to get 4gb ram with 1600 minimum preferred (not 1333).
Crossfiring your 6950 will boost up the game
Also try to buy a good custom cpu cooler, so you can overclock easily which will fly your spec system...

and the GPU doesn't seem too hot.
I had faulty memory could that be it?
I just sent it in to corsair (I have 6gb of 1600mhz dominators)

OHHHH!!!
urs is overclocked!!!
I didn't see that....
I need to overclock mine.
GDYP 2 years ago
Although you might see a performance gain of about 10% doing that, it's really just the resolution that causes the performance difference.
Coerced 2 years ago
Not really
agearmaster1 2 years ago
Have you tried your framerate at that resolution? It can make a big difference, and if that doesn't make up for your performance difference, i'd try lowering your 3d settings in ccc. That can make a big difference.
Coerced 2 years ago
How to you measure the temp for the GPU?
GDYP 2 years ago
Catylyst Control Center (Search 'CCC' is Start Menu) for GPU temps.

your resolution is insanely high. For other games, its fine. For crysis, i suggest u tone it down to max 1680X 1280

Is there any bottleneck with the processor paired up with the 5870?
ThatFlipKidxD 2 years ago
what resolution do you play at??
happytimewhoa 2 years ago
i laugh that this game has been out for three years, and it took three years to be able to max it out with one card....

No your not liying ... showing fps would help tho.
But theres no way a bit 128 could push all its specs even on ddr5.
nvidia was saying the gt9800 was qwicker than the 4830 want was lies.
Just like saying the hd4770 was qwicker than the 4850.
the price rage is the truth most times.

There are other video out there showing frames. i would like too but I dont have a camara.
agearmaster1 2 years ago
gt9800 I have that card, lets just say its cheap and you can run games on high but expect some glitching :D im actually saving for this card. More bang for my buck
WhatsAfterThisPlace 2 years ago
The benchmarks your see in google lie.
ati lies less then nvidia though.
domains33 2 years ago
But your saying that i lie by putting this and telling the fps?
agearmaster1 2 years ago
See he said about 30fps...
so its like a hd 4830...
nicer eye candy in games with no movement.
marketing lying..... its only 128 bits... it can't push all the other specs.

What?

Thats a crazy OC on the 5870.
I'm buying the 5770 for my new Win7 PC I'm going to be building though, I hope I can OC to that speed.
And I'm going to buy another later after build.
Yoshimatsu414 2 years ago
May be if he turn down some graphics settings his frame rate will get some boost.. or lower the resolution.
