I remember kids saying 'mint' when I moved back to New York in 1983. Everything was 'mint': "This is mint...that's so mint". I wondered where the hell it came from but I started saying it like everyone else. Basically it was used like "cool" or "awesome" or "excellent". But I haven't heard it since the mid 1980s. I wonder if it originated in England...
