@Morr1992 Angel beats, Clannad, Kanon (assuming you didn't see these three already) are worth taking a look at. They were made by the same company that made this show, so while not similar in story line, they all share that depressing, but magical atmosphere you mentioned. Clannad seems to be most people's favorite out of these, including myself. So i would especially recommend that one, but their all worth watching.

@burntbannana most likely just because Clannad had two full seasons...if Angel Beats! had 50 episodes that it would be much better than what it already is..I liked Angel Beats! the most..I had to watch the sad episodes to Clannad & Angel Beats more than once before I actually shedded a tear, but when I watched the last episode of Air just once I had to keep my eyes closed so I wouldnt cry lol...I was actually scared to watch this, because I hate feeling sad..thats why I havent watched Kanon yet

I liked clannad more because it focus more into the importance of family.

Of course Air and Kannon is good too but even though the plot was similar, clannad was a better and more improved version. As for Angel Beats, it could have been much better though but i still like it. If i were to rate which is the saddest of them all, it would definitely be clannad. SPOILERS>>>>>What the main protagonist is just too unbearable, especially the way he loses his daughter. And i liked the True ending a lot.

I could never judge someone over whether they like Clannad, Kanon or Air better. In my opinion, it depends which you watched first. The stories are kinda similar so if you watch all three, you'll feel some deja-vu. Clannad was the first key anime I watched, and I think it is the best. It made a long lasting impression on me. I never watched Kanon, and Air's ending was sad, but It didn't have much potential for new storylines, like clannad did.

Sorry if I'm rambling. I just wanted to say that. :)

@LittleMissNightmare8 Yeah, Clannad was best in my opinion. But it had like 50 episode to bring the story, Air had to do with just twelve. For tearjerker stories like these it is crucial for the viewer to feel a connenction to the characters, and in twelve measly episodes that is quite a hard thing to do.

As for Kanon, it is pretty much the same as Clannad. If you liked Clannad, You'll like Kanon. If you ever watch it, watch the 2006 version, it is incomparably better than the 2002 version.

@DEADLYCRAMP Clannad is my joint favourite Anime (With Death Note, my first and probably the most epic experience ever).

Clannad has such an awesome level of raw emotion that I have played the Visual Novel (In fact, I just unlocked After Story 10 minutes ago. Yay!) and I have watched every Key Anime because of how awesome Clannad was (BTW, Angel Beats is also epic).

It's just that Air, while it started off well, ended up becoming weird and not as awesome as I hoped.

Right now I'm kind of annoyed by all the mentions of Clannad and Angel Beats and how they're sooo much better than Air. Clannad was a beautiful anime, but Air is also beautiful in its own right due to its bittersweet yet sad ending, with the characters trying to be strong even they had no hope except for the future. Angel Beats was fun to watch, but... eh.

It's by the same people who made Clannad. You should watch it. The storyline is amazing. I'm not gonna reveal anything, because it will be nicer if you don't know what to expect, but I can guarantee you'll like this anime if you enjoyed Clannad.

Let me clear things up for people that seem pretty confused. 

Key is actually only a eroge and visual arts studio. They've never directed any anime themselves. Kanon, Clannad, Air in animation was done by Kyoto Animation and Key was not involved in the animation project. Recreating an anime is just as hard and I think Kyoto Animation needs the same amount of appreciation for this.

This fact doesn't make Key studio any worse, but Kyoto Animation should be recognized as much.

I didn't like the story to Air. It had much better potential than what happened. As I watched it after Clannad, it kind of disappointed me in a way.

But the way they made the openings...

An emotional scene at the beginning, and as the scene came to it's climax, you could hear the song of the music playing in the background, and when the singer kicks in, and only then, does it change to the credits.

Seriously, it was all good until the whole Crow Business thing. I understand it but...

Its a really sad and beautiful anime, and remember that this is really MY opinion! But I thought It was a little boring, and... did the guy turn into a crow? Ive watched Angel Beats too, even though it was a little boring, I actually liked it better than Air (sorry to ALL Air-lovers! T.T), more action, but really beautiful, and sad (I dont remember if I cried or not at the end...)
