Ram Jam was discriminated against by ACLU and others, with Black Betty characterized as being denigrating toward Black women. This occurred even though Black Betty was originally a Black working song (see Leadbelly's version). So much over-reaction by do-gooders overshadowed the brilliance of Ram Jam's effort. No one would support them after being denounced by ACLU.

@Dragonrdh Yes, this is easily the best "Rock" version. But, I also like Tom Jones' video version, he is hilarious, and lots of other interesting action going on in in the background and on the sidelines. A lot of talented folks in it, particularly a passing cameo or two by a fellow who, I think, is supposed to remind us of Leadbelly himself. Fun stuff!
