@Suprkit Eisenhower was a conservative, he coined the phrase "dynamic conservatism" and that was his ideology. He believed in a free market economy and did little to hinder hinder business through regulation, he believed in balanced budget, he believed in supporting anti-communist forces abroad. Eisenhower was a great man who once said "Our government makes no sense unless it
@Willredd94 President Eisenhower was a "Middle-of-the-roader". He supported Anti-communist efforts in other nations, but not the witch hunts of Sen. McCarthy and did not "want to get down into the gutter with that guy". He signed the Kerr-Mills Bill(pre-Medicare) in 1960. He did little to undo the New Deal/Fair Deal policies. He created HEW. He was not a Reagan,Goldwater,Taft,or Bush 43 type of "Christian conservative".He may have been slightly, but I wouldn't view him in that light.
@Suprkit He was middle of the road, but his policies and beliefs are called dynamic conservatism. He didnt want to get rid of the New Deal, neither did Reagan who said that on numerous occasions. A synonym for conservative is moderate. Eisenhower deregulated the economy, balanced the budget, overthrew elected governments in the name of anti-communism and was criticized by the media for bringing religion into his politics.
U.S. of America...dispised by BILLIONS across the globe. Certainly a clandestine member of the Axix of Evil (CIA) and complicit in the 911 attacks (like Pearl Harbour)once again killing its own citizens to advance the Empire. And run by criminals to boot!! Check out the Northwoods Document if you doubt this could happen. The Bush family is one of the most corrupt on the planet and anyone who can read should know that by now.
Bless you General Eisenhower! He saw it coming. I read that his original draft of this speech had the term "military-industrial-Congressional complex" and the politicans and policy wonks of the day got him to remove that term.
Without the full cooperation and complicity of the US Congress, these outrages against our republic would never have come to pass.
Chalmers may be a conservative, but i suspect he supports for instance the Sandinistas, since he knows the Contras were US trained deaths squads with the CIA deeply involved, trying and succeeding to overthrow the democratically elected socialist government, to get easy access to that nations' wealth.
That's only one of many bad things the US empire has done in its Cold war on communism.
Most lefties aren't nearly as bad as most conservatives think, and i suspect Chalmers is well aware of that.
Conservative and liberal don't mean much anymore. Milton Friedman once said he doesn't like big government because it always gets in the hands of the industrialists. I would imagine this is Chalmers view on big government. It should also be noted that neoconservatives aren't conservative in the slightest.
"doesn't like big government because it always gets in the hands of the industrialists."
Is the problem with government getting in the hands of corporations not that corporations game the system to their advantage at the expense of the rest of us?
Are government regulations not the only way to at least put some limit on the political power of corporations?
The fewer government regulations to restrict corporations' power, the bigger the negative influence of corporations on society.
I would argue that most government regulations (not all) are at the behest of corporations. There often used to push out small firms and cartelize their industry. There are some good books on this subject; from a socialist view I recommend "The Truimph of Conservatism" by Gabriel Kolko and from the libertarian view I recommend "The Big Ripoff: How Big Government and Big Business Steal Your Money". I understand the logic of big government counteracts big business, but I think they simply collude.
Goes to show terms such as "left" and "conservative" hardly have any meaning any more.
If the powers behind the scenes have a political ideology, it is one of despotism - all they really want is more power and more wealth. Any sane person, be it Left, Right, Up or Down, is opposed to that.

Wake up and smell the imported coffee beans, idiot. It's people like you that brought this about in the first place.
But personally, I think we have the means and the resources to reverse this situation. Someone just has to start the ripple.
