Even's instrument It's probably a Selmer German system (also referred to as an Albert system clarinet) with a french bore and mouthpiece. They were in use in the US by many New Orleans players.
German made clarinets mostly have a smaller bore and a slightly wider reed at the tip with a different lay and cut! The Oehler system actually is an Albert system clarinet with added keys and rings.
Man, I miss watching him here in San Antonio in the way back. He was the only breath of invention on Jim Cullum's stage -- completely respectful of the tradition, but often capable (I mean often!) of startling you with an original lick that put whatever standard they were playing that night on a whole 'nother plane of regard. Glad to see he's still at it.
for my mmoney there is no more authentic new orleans style clarinet player on the scene today. wonderful shades of omer simeon, edmond hall, and barney bigard all rolled into one... oh and evan christopher singularly great player. how many people are playing albert system clarintes anymore?? nothing else sounds quite like them. kudos and keep swingin' evan. thanks for posting
No worries. I'll have to do the same on all these...
