I think this music still made sense and quick to tune in the listener's taste. Today it's not music but striking a pose and selling a video.

Nowadays the studios suck the artists dry, and generally don't take chances with new and unproven ideas.

The industry were in much the same spot in the early 80's as they are now. Everything became more of the same, and people stopped buying records. So the studios gambled and started investing in new talents, and 1982-5 happened. That is the years most of the then big names really started showing up.

When I was 12, the Spice Girls were the in thing, but when I heard heaven is a place on earth, I was hooked! I eventually bought all her albums and I still think she rocks! (I'm 27 now) There should be more artists like her & she deserves a lot more recognition. People take the piss even now for my taste in music, but I don't care 'cos her music is proper music.

When I was 12 I was a Spice Girls fan, (I'm truly ashamed) then I heard Heaven is a place on Earth & loved it. Then I bought the album, realised she's a million times better & gradually bought all the albums. She's a proper artist with proper talent unlike the manufactured crap of today which barely qualifies as music.
