Nuremburg trial opening statement. sorry could fit it all.
Nothing could be more powerful, or a more potent example to the world that we are the greatest country on Earth, then trying, convicting and executing these men under the full weight and authority of the United States Constitution.
These men are common criminals, saying otherwise only helps them, and hurts us
Conservatives are spineless cowards. They are scared of gay marriages destroying family, scared of immigrants stealing jobs, and now they are scared of an unarmed, locked up man being watched 24/7 by armed guards in a max security prison. Give me a break...
The funny thing is the armed guard is not there to protect Americans from the terrorist's.
They are there to protect the men like KSM from a angry mob so they can stand trial and they can answer for the crimes in a way where the US can show that it is a country of laws and justice.
Even if i do think setting a few of the terrorists lose unarmed in the streets of new York could be fun. I would give them a few min or to before they where ripped to shreds.
@Waage83 Yeah, I agree, but I was just using it as another example of how ridiculous it is to be scared of him. The guards wouldn't let him do anything...
KSM reveals that there were US black opps links and stand down orders on 911.
How about one better, He submits a copy of a check he received with Don Rumsfelds signature on it. I KNOW ITS A STRETCH.
Maybe that's why they are so reluctant to have him tried in an open court, they fear what may come out. Of course, they cant publicly justify a secret trial due to national security.
This is so ridiculous. We've dealt with terrorists in the past, even prior to September 11, 2001. Somehow we've managed to do bring these people to justice, without torturing the living shit out of them, managed put them on trial, and yet manage to do so without endangering the population.
Abandoning our rule of law in order to protect ourself from terrorism is no different than selling our soul to be safe.
Armed thugs and crazies who create mayhem in an attempt to free a terrorist on his way to to jail?Isn't that the plot to that SWAT remake some years back? Or is it New Avengers #1 were the supervillians escape max security?
that's disgusting that you would say ANYTHING nice about the mastermind of a grand terrorist plot that killed 1000's of civilians. Also you are wrong. He had an agenda but was too much of a coward to do it himself. He IS a coward. Exactly like Dick Cheney. Agenda, don't mind 1000's dying for that agenda, too coward to do it themselves. Check.
Bin Laden is not the actual mastermind. He is the figurehead of the Al Queda. He doesn't do any actually logistical planning. He has minions to do that for him (i.e. KSM).
So, no Bin Laden is not off the hook, but no, Bin Laden is not the other "mastermind" either.
Another great thing about Republicans: They scream that Obama's health plan is socialist and the constitution needs to be followed to the letter, but then say we should just bypass all laws and kill KSM.
What they're acquitted. It means the same thing as in any other case: the evidence was insufficent to hold the defendant liable for the charge. Simple as that. I live not 20 miles from where Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri was stopped, arrested, and confined during trial. I'm even closer to where he went to school and the courthouse where he was tired. I didn't live in terror, and I won't. Laying things out in open court will, in the end, be good for both liberty and security.
Actually, Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri may have been tired in court at times. But it's where he was *tried*, the United States Courthouse for the Central District of Illinois, I'm talking about.
Correction to correction. Ali Saleh Kahlah accepted a plea bargin and entered a guilty plea. It was where he would have been tried, and it was where his sentencing hearing was conducted and the sentence imposed. Brain hiccup.
Alright America, what message do we want to send; do we want to be so scared of terrorists that we lock them away in a cage far away and never give them a trial for fear of them being acquitted (or whatever the fuck we're so scared of), or do we want to be the country that is so committed to democracy that we give our enemies every legal advantage but still have the balls to take them to court?
Miltary tribunals were already set up to try KSM. So basically, there was already a way to prosecute him in a court. Also, when the blind sheik was tried in the 90s, he was entitled to know how the prosecutors got their evidence. That is why many "conservatives" do not want him tried in a civilian court.
I've figured out what the main difference is between the right and left. The left prioritises diversity over lives wheras the right does not. Correct me if im wrong.
Also, I've heard people saying we're "ushering" him in. Did it not occur to these people that he's going to be in chains? It's not like we're letting him go to the goddamn neighborhood barbecue, we're putting him on trial. For an act he's already confessed to multiple times. I'm quite confident in the American justice system and its ability to handle him. It seems the conservative do not share my confidence in the American way.
What I don't understand is how conservatives can say "He's a terrorist! We can't try him!" Or the absurd idea that because the attacks were an act of war, that we can't try them. An act of terrorism is a crime, and we afford due process to murderers, child molesters, and terrorists, no matter how heinous their crime.
If you want to call it an act of war, we tried the Nazis as well, and you cannot logically argue to me that KSM is a more evil individual than men like Heinrich Himmler.
I hate to break it to republicans but a lot of the crimes there afraid Muslim terrorist's may commit are being committed by American criminals everyday. They kidnap your daughters they threaten the judicial system they commit murders. But since its American pedophiles and American gangs like the crips and the bloods and the Mexican mafia republicans are oblivious. I guess its worse if terrorists commit crimes for some reason.
You'd think that "prison" and "trials" were a new fucking concept to these people. We can't lock them up because they're "dangerous?" What the fuck kind of people do they think we've been putting into our prisons for centuries? Hairdressers and care bears?
Yes, they're dangerous, that's why after they're found guilty based on EVIDENCE, they'll be thrown in JAIL, where dangerous people go. Leave it to republicans to find the perfect mix of being a pussy AND a moron.
1795, in specific sense of "government intimidation during the Reign of Terror in France" (1793-July 1794), from Fr. terrorisme (1798), from L. terror (see terror "If the basis of a popular government in peacetime is virtue, its basis in a time of revolution is virtue and terror -- virtue, without which terror would be barbaric; and terror, without which virtue would be impotent." [Robespierre, speech in Fr. National Convention, 1794]
General sense of "systematic use of terror as a policy" is first recorded in Eng. 1798.
Terrorize "coerce or deter by terror" first recorded 1823.
Terrorist in the modern sense dates to 1947, especially in reference to Jewish tactics against the British in Palestine -- earlier it was used of extremist revolutionaries in Russia (1866); and Jacobins during the French Revolution (1795) -- from Fr. terroriste.
The tendency of one party's terrorist to be another's guerilla or freedom fighter was noted in ref. to the British action in Cyprus (1956) and the war in Rhodesia (1973). The word terrorist has been applied, at least retroactively, to the Maquis resistance in occupied France in World War II (e.g. in the "Spectator," Oct. 20, 1979).
The only purpose of a trial is to sort innocent people from guilty people. You can't pick and choose who you do and don't give them to.
If you think a guy is really, really guilty, then great: he'll be found guilty at the trial. But if you can just deny people trials because you think they're "obviously guilty" or "really bad!" then you'll be able to do that to innocent people too.
The only way to give anyone a trial is to give everyone a trial. Unless you hate America. Do you?
And by placing KSM on trial would be an example to the world that the US is serious about using fair justice to prove the guilt and punish the guilty. It would probably show to the Muslim world as well that the US is interested in prosecuting the guilty who attempt to kill innocents (no matter who the victims are) through acts of terrorism. It's something that is very American, a fair trial and will go a long way to rebuilding any moral legitimacy the US has around the world as a power.
Take it from someone who lives in Chicago and reads the tribune, sun-times, and southtown star daily, the newspapers of Chicago and surrounding suburbs have been kissing the democrats' ass knowing that eventually they might be next in line for a bailout.
at first... i was interested in the canon ad. but since i'm viewing all of my subscriptions, and all of the tyt videos begin with 30 seconds of that ad... now i'm no longer interested. i'm actually a little repulsed by the repetition. way to market, canon... way to market.
Are Republicans THAT stupid? Who's advising these clowns? Snidely Whiplash? The trial WILL go on, that much is certain. I am very confident nothing will happen. It will be as expected by sane people. Then this just turns into a huge embarrassment for the GOP.
They realize the terrorists can't teleport, right? That their most likely course of action is to flee the country, right?
If this is the way we treat other prisoners whom we presume to be guilty and just send them off to foreign prisons with no laws governing their treatment? Are we going to start doing this to OJ, and Mike Tyson, and Charles Manson, and Jeffrey Dahmer? Well, I'm just making a point, anyway, that there are heinous Americans out there as well, and we treat them with due process.
I'm sick of Republicans and other hypocrites worrying about people in NYC and their families. I grew up in NY and my old coworkers perished in Windows on the World. After 9/11, the Federal Gov't led by Bush took a GIANT SHIT ON US, the firefighters they used for political gain, and countless other New Yorkers. They've got no right to butt in their cowardly, chickenhawk noses now.
Praise be to TYT and many others for standing up for the rule of law, and JUST PLAIN SANITY.
Thats a great point, the italian's were dealing with actual danger with the power of the mob, not to memtion all the murders that were happening to any one trying to prosecute, they killed anyone who got close and yet the courts held firm.
let the trial take place in NYC. it only takes one unhinged muslim lunatic like the Fort Hood shooter to commit or even attempt to commit an act of terrorism in NYC and that'll be the end of Holder and the Obamba presidency.
@ Friction00815 You're a Fuck head so full of hate against fellow Americans with a different opinion that you're wishing to see even more Americans killed...I thought you were just a dick before friction but you've moved up to full blown asshole...congratulations on the promotion you deserve it...
yes i know you're going to come back with some sort of snappy FAIL comment so save the time and just let e tell you now to fuck off
Every country always has good reasons for totalitarnism. You think the USSR framed their argument for taking everyones rights away by saying 'We're evil authoritarian state and we're going to exert total control over you'. No they said 'theres evil capitalist terrorists out there we have to have total control over your lives, no courts, no trials, no rules'. Republicans are cowards, enemies of freedom, and they want a totalitarian state. They're pathetic anti-American losers.
Unless that is they want to subvert authority as in their desire to "root out" Obama. The problem is stupidity isn't an ideology, these people are just dumb terrified fuckwits. They're self-scaring simpletons, the terror comes entirely from within. They're even terrified of the census and video games and clouds (twice, chemtrails and Al Gore), vaccines, death panels and any old shite Alex Jones can make up. If only the government would put some Xanax in their water instead of "deadly" fluoride.
I actually heard someone on Fox news say we should not have the KSM trial because he might say something anti-american, man I wonder what would give them that impression?
When in American History has an enemy combatent apprended on the battlefield ever been tried in civilian court instead of military court. Never!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Young Turks have not metioned military court once!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats the whole arguement. That they should be tried in military court. Young Turks are twisting all the facts. Watch the video of Eric Holdern and Linsey Graham. > > > > > > > > >
How is this an "affirmative action" case, and is this not just an exhibition of your racism? Most conservatives praised the decision to try Moussawi in a federal civilian court. There's precedent right there for how we handle terrorists. Seems to me you're just afraid that he might be found innocent. If he is found innocent, what would you do? Cry? Give me a break you hick. I hate calling names, but it seems that would be all you would respond to, judging from your childish comments.
Scared old white men trying to pass decisions and make them look rational. Wasn't this the same party that said "Fear means they win' ?? Glad to see the spineless cowards show their true colors when it's time to get the job done.
It's pretty simple. By trying KSM and the others in civilian courts, the case establishes a couple of things.
Since evidence obtained through torture is ineligible, the information will be what was obtained before he was tortured.
If KSM can be convicted and put in jail through the civilian courts, it means that the wholesale raping of the Geneva Convention, habeus corpus, and other civil rights by the neo-cons was unnecessary. Oops!
Maybe they are but it's kept covered up. That's ridiculous though, the news networks would never roll over and take orders from the government like that.
All these republicans are saying is that the US is incapable of performing the task at hand So they are running in fear because they just don't believe the US is up to the job . Republicans are telling Americans that America is a failure that all
at least if we can do away with KSM in the proper American way we could show the world and terrorists what we are all about and what we stand for.....JUSTICE!!!!!!! think about it!!!
????? I have never commited a war crime and I bet you haven't either. you can't judge the entire country and what its people stand for by the decisions some crooked politicians made.
its very possible that if the marshall plan hadnt been there, eventually a third world war would have broke out. very like twenty years from then, like the 2nd one did post to the first.
No manuelschindler--the Marshall plan was planned deliberately to stifle Communists and leftist parties coming to power in Italy, France, Germany, et al., where they would have won popular election.
In Italy they still were on the verge of being popularly elected and the CIA basically stole the elections.
It did not stop another world war--it stopped revolution ready to happen.
That's sort of right, the US kept the Soviet Union from sweeping into control of Western Europe as it did the eastern European nations. And Western Europe still looks at the rest of the world from behind America's skirts, scolding the US all the while.
The Soviets took Eastern Europe in self defense. They quickly gave up Austria, for example because there was no strategic defensive value in holding it. After Stalin died, Beria wanted to give up East Germany as well, for the same reason, but Khruschev would not let him.
In Italy and France and Germany the US was protecting the oligarchs--the Communists, like Tito, were native and not necessarily pro-Soviet.
Italy is a good case, where the Communists were quite independent, as they still are.
"The Soviets took Eastern Europe in self defense"; nonsense and other comments. The Soviets took what they could because they were commited to the Marxist foolery of worldwide revolution. The US spent 70 years keeping them out of the West they were poised to conquer.
The Ukrainia is a special case--the Russians do mind an independent Ukraina, if it is not NATO, but Khruschev, who was very pro-Ukrainian, gave Ukraina the Crimea, which was Russian. That is what they are fighting about in regard to the Russian base there.

Cheespuffs45 2 years ago 13
The funny thing is the armed guard is not there to protect Americans from the terrorist's.
They are there to protect the men like KSM from a angry mob so they can stand trial and they can answer for the crimes in a way where the US can show that it is a country of laws and justice.
Even if i do think setting a few of the terrorists lose unarmed in the streets of new York could be fun. I would give them a few min or to before they where ripped to shreds.
Waage83 2 years ago
@Waage83 Yeah, I agree, but I was just using it as another example of how ridiculous it is to be scared of him. The guards wouldn't let him do anything...

Abandoning our rule of law in order to protect ourself from terrorism is no different than selling our soul to be safe.

Are we supposed to forget that other "mastermind" Bin Ladden.
Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought that the title mastermind, singles out one person just like the term ringleader, there can be only one.
Does this imply that Bin Ladden is off the hook?
gmcmudder1 2 years ago
Bin Laden is not the actual mastermind. He is the figurehead of the Al Queda. He doesn't do any actually logistical planning. He has minions to do that for him (i.e. KSM).
So, no Bin Laden is not off the hook, but no, Bin Laden is not the other "mastermind" either.

Laying things out in open court will, in the end, be good for both liberty and security.
newdarnaccount 2 years ago
Actually, Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri may have been tired in court at times. But it's where he was *tried*, the United States Courthouse for the Central District of Illinois, I'm talking about.

That is why many "conservatives" do not want him tried in a civilian court.

grahamkeithtodd 2 years ago
What I don't understand is how conservatives can say "He's a terrorist! We can't try him!" Or the absurd idea that because the attacks were an act of war, that we can't try them. An act of terrorism is a crime, and we afford due process to murderers, child molesters, and terrorists, no matter how heinous their crime.
If you want to call it an act of war, we tried the Nazis as well, and you cannot logically argue to me that KSM is a more evil individual than men like Heinrich Himmler.

TERRORISM (1)
1795, in specific sense of "government intimidation during the Reign of Terror in France" (1793-July 1794), from Fr. terrorisme (1798), from L. terror (see terror "If the basis of a popular government in peacetime is virtue, its basis in a time of revolution is virtue and terror -- virtue, without which terror would be barbaric; and terror, without which virtue would be impotent." [Robespierre, speech in Fr. National Convention, 1794]
Online Etymological Dictionary cont'.
mopsius 2 years ago
General sense of "systematic use of terror as a policy" is first recorded in Eng. 1798.
Terrorize "coerce or deter by terror" first recorded 1823.
Terrorist in the modern sense dates to 1947, especially in reference to Jewish tactics against the British in Palestine -- earlier it was used of extremist revolutionaries in Russia (1866); and Jacobins during the French Revolution (1795) -- from Fr. terroriste.
[ibid]
mopsius 2 years ago
The tendency of one party's terrorist to be another's guerilla or freedom fighter was noted in ref. to the British action in Cyprus (1956) and the war in Rhodesia (1973). The word terrorist has been applied, at least retroactively, to the Maquis resistance in occupied France in World War II (e.g. in the "Spectator," Oct. 20, 1979).

Fishmongerabc123 2 years ago
The only purpose of a trial is to sort innocent people from guilty people. You can't pick and choose who you do and don't give them to.
If you think a guy is really, really guilty, then great: he'll be found guilty at the trial. But if you can just deny people trials because you think they're "obviously guilty" or "really bad!" then you'll be able to do that to innocent people too.
The only way to give anyone a trial is to give everyone a trial. Unless you hate America. Do you?
fiveb85 2 years ago 8
Well said 'fiveb85." Why are the conservatives so scared of proving someone guilty in a court of law???
NewYorkViolets 2 years ago 5
And by placing KSM on trial would be an example to the world that the US is serious about using fair justice to prove the guilt and punish the guilty. It would probably show to the Muslim world as well that the US is interested in prosecuting the guilty who attempt to kill innocents (no matter who the victims are) through acts of terrorism. It's something that is very American, a fair trial and will go a long way to rebuilding any moral legitimacy the US has around the world as a power.

Oops!

its very possible that if the marshall plan hadnt been there, eventually a third world war would have broke out. very like twenty years from then, like the 2nd one did post to the first.
manuelschindler 2 years ago
No manuelschindler--the Marshall plan was planned deliberately to stifle Communists and leftist parties coming to power in Italy, France, Germany, et al., where they would have won popular election.
In Italy they still were on the verge of being popularly elected and the CIA basically stole the elections.
It did not stop another world war--it stopped revolution ready to happen.
mopsius 2 years ago
The US started the Cold War by using nuclear weapons on Tokyo and Nagasaki, which was a show for Stalin.
The Marshall Plan was part of the economic Cold War in Europe.
By tthe 1950's the Democrats had also purged all the Socialists and Communists for the same reason.
mopsius 2 years ago
That's sort of right, the US kept the Soviet Union from sweeping into control of Western Europe as it did the eastern European nations. And Western Europe still looks at the rest of the world from behind America's skirts, scolding the US all the while.
franksnow79 2 years ago
The Soviets took Eastern Europe in self defense. They quickly gave up Austria, for example because there was no strategic defensive value in holding it. After Stalin died, Beria wanted to give up East Germany as well, for the same reason, but Khruschev would not let him.
In Italy and France and Germany the US was protecting the oligarchs--the Communists, like Tito, were native and not necessarily pro-Soviet.
Italy is a good case, where the Communists were quite independent, as they still are.
mopsius 2 years ago 2
"The Soviets took Eastern Europe in self defense"; nonsense and other comments. The Soviets took what they could because they were commited to the Marxist foolery of worldwide revolution. The US spent 70 years keeping them out of the West they were poised to conquer.

mopsius 2 years ago
When the Soviet Union collapsed, the Russians gave up all of Eastern Europe quite eagerly since they were heavily subsidizing them.
Now Poland and the Czechs and so forth are looking for US subsidies.
All the Russians wanted was a pledge not to absorb the Eastern European nations into NATO, which they see as a threat.
Reagan gave his word on that, but not in writing. Clinton and Bush broke it.
Eastern Europe was an enormous economic drag on Russia.
mopsius 2 years ago
The Ukrainia is a special case--the Russians do mind an independent Ukraina, if it is not NATO, but Khruschev, who was very pro-Ukrainian, gave Ukraina the Crimea, which was Russian. That is what they are fighting about in regard to the Russian base there.
