This is CLASSIC TELEVISION. I met Jerry Lawler at a screening of the Kaufman movie "I'm From Hollywood" and got his autograph. He told the whole story behind the "feud" and how it was all put on. He's a really nice guy, actually.
@higyhagd This was Andy Kaufman's' type of humor back then, shock reality humor. He was so good at it that no really knows when things were scripted and when he and the person he was fucking with got out of control for real. He was a real professional at it and no one has come close since.
since the rock will be on jay leno it will be cool if john cena showed up on tonights show im a rock fan but it would be cool if he showed up while rock is doing an interview with jay leno that would be a good way to spice up wrestlemania
@tappakeggaday1 yeah it was, a Little later on I had seen the interview Jerry Lawler had talked about how it was all set up...... ........ NO EASTER BUNNY???!!!!!! your not joking right??!!
@TheRealRoadDogg he's not faking his death... he would come back by now. I mean, he would be like 60 now, you know, I mean, he would come back before that age, because at that age there's a great possibility that he would really die before he would get the chance to tell the world all about it ;) plus somebody would notice him contacting his family, he surely would contact his family, I mean, you just don't leave people you love for 20 years and make them think you're dead, lol
Love it how in Memphis, Kaufman is the bad guy and Lawler the good guy. Then on the show, they switch places in the eyes of the audience, whether or not they liked or respected wrestling. Just like the good ol' days of wrestling when wrestlers were on different sides depending on region.
Lawler and kaufman were FRIENDS. This was all an elaborate hoax. This is the true genius of Andy Kaufman, he had everyone fooled. He STILL has people fooled even after his death
@thescarycarrie Some people even thought that his death was staged. He did say if he faked his death, he'd come back 20 years later. That'd have been 2004. We're still waiting Andy!
@TheRealRoadDogg That would make my life. Sadly, I wasn't alive to experience it all first hand just yet. But after seeing Man On The Moon, I did some research and became obsessed with Andy Kaufman. I would love to get inside his mind, just for a few minutes.
lawler is a hypocrite here he is saying that its not fake or fixed, and these days he is calling it sports entertainment, you wanna be dumb to think its real man, a guy throws a punch about a mile away from another guys face and he falls down, of course wrestling is fake who does lawler think his foolin
@Moc870 do you want to look how many years ago this was, do you want to take some time and realize what kind of show the Letterman show is. Have you bothered to even see that they all know it is a work and they play on people like you getting mad because "you know it's fake". Think again before you post, do you really think Jerry Lawler and David Letterman are trying to fool anyone?
@prameszy you do realize that letterman had no idea that this was all staged right? have YOU bothered to read up on some history you wouldnt look like such a pompous tard-cart.
So Lawler uses physical violence on Kaufman, punching him, and he gets to stay on the programme, even getting a handshake from Letterman. Kaufman, however, seems to be made to come off worse because he swore and threw coffee. They certainly have their moral priorites wrong on that show!
@vAmpyr616 It was a different time. Kayfabe was common practice back then. It would be more impressive if they ran a storyline like that now and they managed to pull a fast one.

yeah, people with legit neck injuries have no trouble jumping up and down like he did. Social security cheats are more convincing than he was.

They should have used this footage for Man on the Moon instead of Jim Carrey recreating this event. It would have been great.
