at last i can see them playing my kind of music after so long. i always love to see them during late 60's and early 70's in Colombo, what a great dance band with perfect talent and the Mignonne is simply the best .thanks for the videos.jet.
Thanks Great sounding band,I grew up in Guyana (British) and loved their music,I now live in New YORK,there is a Loyal fan club in Toronto Canada, they get together so often to play live bands of the shadows,(Shadows fan club of Toronto)thanks again
Would not have believed it if i had not seen and listened to it myself.. my mother is from sri lanka and i still have relatives there. fantastic.. will look ou for some more videos. tnx
Hey everyone! My father has the ORIGINAL Record of this Band "Live at The Taj Mahal". Does anyone know if it has been re-released on C.D.? We have looked on iTunes but haven't found too much yet. Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance.
The Jets did not release any material on CD. They have of course since split up, and there Manager and Sound Wizard Tony Fernando (Husband of Mignonne) has also past away. Perhaps EMI may consider once they put their entire catalogue out on line.
@PeteyPetePete well, I have no no record or CD but they're in my head, I've heard them live at the Taj Mahal (that's the hotel in Bombay, not the monument in Agra!) and danced to their music at the erstwhile Blow Up discotheque in the Taj in the late 60's/early 70's
Man, what talent! And they never lost it. I was a kid when I last saw them in Ceylon, but they sound just as good here. I never realized till recently that such a teeny little island produced so much talent.
well it gives me great pleasure to have known the drummer Aruna Siriwardena from the Jetliners , they were perfect back then by having their standards unlike some of the bands that play in srilanka now,
Good memory!! Yes The Jets used to be played frequently on Radio Ceylon's Overseas transmissions, and my brothers & I used to sometimes tune into that frequency. Yes Binaca were the sponsors of the Hit Parade in those years and VJ was the DJ who used to sign of saying its VC from VC and played Vaya Condios, as his closing track!!!
I forgot to add that I was also prevelaged to be at the Jet Liners reunion held at the BMICH Colombo. I agree with your remarks they played after 30 years just as they used to perform in the 60's
What is even more amazing, and speaks volumes about the talent of these guys, they had not played together for over 30 years, before this reunion, and yet the sounds certainly took us all back to those Coconut Grove Days. thanks for your coments SFC.
Couldn't agree more with jazzmanjones. I was a little kid growing up in Sri Lanka during hey days of Jetliners back home, and never had the fortune to see them live. This is amazing and now I realize what my elders talk about Jetliners. They are truly wonderful. I am sure Hank marvin will be very proud of them. Thank you Gehan for posting this. Any chance of them playing in London ?
Glad you enjoyed the clip. We too feel lucky to have been part of that "Pop" explosion in Sri Lanka. The Jets did some tours to the States, Oz and Sri Lanka in the last few years, but I feel that to arrange another tour may be just "too hard" for those who did it. Rhythm Guitarist for the Jets Anton Gunawijeya lives in London, and Indra (Switz), Harris (Denmark), Sohan (Hawaii),Felix (Aust), Ishan & Mignonne (SL).The Jets released several LPs.
Move over Hank Marvin, the sound is sooo good. Who said us Sri Lankans cant rock. My older relatives always tell me that they had a better time in the sixties at the coconut grove, and sundown dances, than us today. I believe them. Thanks Gehan !
Hey Jazzman, your parents were right!!!!Me & my friends the gals we "capped" just loved the Saturday & Sunday dances. . .no drugs, no serious alchohol, no meangless sex, just fun and a darn good time! Glad to share some of the memories!!!

What memories!!
I never saw the Jetliners; but heard them on Radio Ceylon when I was a kid living in Goa.
I think they were also on the Binaca Hit Parade with a DJ called Vijay Correa
Many thanks for the vids.
