@Sal30 wow dude the zo6 has an improved suspension and it's the 05 c6 that has the leaf suspension and this car actually does o-60 in 3.7 seconds and since the engine is a massive 7 liter v8 you can tune it almost endlessly. However with a smaller 5.6 liter v6 you cant tune it as much. This "pathetic" car made the nurbergring in 7min 35 sec!!!!! The Nissan did it in 7min 50sec and this car has 25 more HP and 20 more ftlbs of torque. It's sad how little people know about corvettes

The gt, is of coarse worth more, but also better handling and performance,

@slayerjohn22 al it is is different testers. The Z06 and ZR1 are hard to drive and hard to learn how to drive fast if you only the car for a day to practice on thats why all the numbers vary. Different driver skills. If you look at what Chevy's number are for their vettes its usually a little quicker with a beyond professional driver.
i disagree the Z06 isnt hard to drive. Its low and wide but its easier to drive than a f430. it takes a bit to find its limits ill agree but that can be said for any RWD performance coupe.
@DaBluedude100 have you ever driven one? I have. The saleman at the dealer coulnd't even get traction pulling out of the parking lot since it had just barely been washed and he almost wrecked it. That car is a beast if youre not ready for it. The 370z is easy to drive hard, the Z06 is not. As Car and Driver put it, compared to the coupe, grand sport, and ZR1 the Z06 seems useless. But I still love it and Ill be uying one once the C7's come out in 2012 hopefully late 2011.
Yes ive driven 2 stock ones and one that is twin procharged. none are hard to drive. There are lots of people that find them hard to drive but they aren't that bad. I fail to see where the difficulty comes in. It has a clutch, gas pedal and hell even brakes! I will give you that it is a tricky car to heel and toe. And any car 300 hp or over is twitchy out of the wash bay and doubly if they sprayed wax on it. Ive never driven a 370z but cant imagine it would be a handful either.

Why in the hell would the corvette be hard to drive in normal conditions? or any stock car for that matter. the vette is way more unpredictable than the Z under hard driving conditions. Its meant to be that way as Chevy themselves has stated before.
@mtross70 no. just be aware though even with traction control on it still cant make the car crash proof. When I go to road courses I go in the beginner sessions and when people bring Z06's they always say they love the car on the street but on a road course sometimes its unpredictable with the snap oversteer and how easy the rear breaks loose when accelerating out of corners.
@psmTARDCORE would replacing the tires be a good idea? I hear many owners complain about the OEM tires and how the compound is very hard thus giving the car a tendency to lose traction especially in wet environments.
@mtross70 well if you have the cash yeah but the tires tat many C6Z owners buy are the Nitto NT05's which have bad wet traction. The Nitto Invo are good though just not as much lateral traction in dry as the NT05's have. Those OEM run flats are expensive!! When you get your C6Z chances are that you won't push the car to 90% of its limits so I wouldnt worry about it. I mean no offense by that statement.

My c6 z has 3400 miles got for 54g. i will probably go to my garage for months and just stare at it! I've had it on my screen saver for 4.5 years. corvettes have been a passion of mine since my first ride when i was 6 years old. hope the c7 exceeds expectations

@ASpartansLife Don't you realize that different surfaces and conditions produce different times? A zo6 on a drag strip could rip of a 3.3 0-60 yet get only 4.0 on a regular road. These times are consistent with what most people get.
The best that reviewers have gotten on the Z06 stock is 0-60 of 3.5 and 3.6 seconds. 3.3 is WAY off the mark. But 3.6 seconds is still very impressive.
Lots have been said about the Corvette interior. I challenge any of you to inspect the all-leather 3LZ interior of an 08, 09, or 10. It is very nice, indeed. The quality, fit, and finish is excellent.
A little over a month ago I purchased a 2009 C6 3LZ Z06. Last week I attended the FAASST racing school at VIR (highly recommended). It was an absolutely awsome experience. A road course like the VIR is where the Z06 really shines!
The only car faster than my stock Z06 was a modified Z06 with coil-overs, long-tube headers (less cats and mufflers), different rotors, and Hoosier R's. Man that thing was fast!!! The owner said it produces about 495 hp to the rear wheels. He also said that the only stock vehicles he has seen that give him any competition is the Porsche GT2 and the Ariel Atom. Pretty good company, indeed!
The LS7 has a forged steel crankshaft, Titanium rods & cast pistons. with the exception of the pistons, you are not breaking the other components with 1,000 hp. They could have easily put forged pistons inside, but it would not have helped the cylinder wall problem. I have been a corvette fan for over 27 years and very little about them gets past me. I plan to get an 08 Corvette in the near future.
This test was done in 95* heat, heat soak... The Z06 does the 0-60 in a more realistic 3.7 sec.... the 1\4 mile is spot on...The ZR1 is no faster to 60 mph in this kind of heat, I've seen them ran against eachother in 85* air..What's cool though is that the new 2008-2009 Cobalt SS turbo runs this 700fy cones-slalom in 72.6 mph, that's nearly 3 mph faster then the Z06!!! Z06 has weak internals so forced induction is not a good idea on the Z0... I've seen too many Z0's break or melt valves too.
Ask or check out the making of ZR1. They said initially, the ZR1 was spotting the LS7 supercharged. It was making ridiculous power, and the internal components kept breaking, so they decoded to detune it, going with the smaller 6.2Liter with a supercharger, hence the LS9-6.2L V8.
The Z06 engine does not have weak internals. The block cylinder walls are thin because it is a small block 427. That is why they didn't use for the ZR1 and it didn't offer the longterm reliabilty. There are supercharged Z06s roaming they wanted. The streets making 600+ rwhp at very low boost without a problem.
40K less than a ZR1? Your crazy. Do your math. Z06 $74K plus that $22K (more like $30K when you get done with it) is how much? ABout $100K. ZR1= $104K. Come out to around the same price and the car is still in stock form.
No BMW does not comes close to the 0-60 times of the Z06 or the ZR-1. BMW 3 Series had among the lowest Powertrain quality and Body & Interior Quality ratings. Scoring 2 Stars out of 5 while Chevrolet Corvettte got 3½ stars for the powertrain and 4½ stars for body & interior.These scores were rated for the first 90 days of ownership and not the based on yearly results.
you know, after watching this a while ago, and then watching the ZR1 so much, and then referring back to the Z06, The Z06 is not so far off the ZR1, its almost identical, so why does the ZR1 cost $30,000 more than a base Z06? Just because it has a Supercharger? And come to think of it, the Z06 has a 7.0L LS7 V8, and the Zr1 has a smaller 6.2L LS9 V8. I really dont see why the price has to be so much more! For $30,000 i can use for alot more other things

More than likely it because they can't afford a car like the Z06.
So they had to settle for a Mustang GT. Not that I dislike Mustangs!
There are lots of cheaper cars anyone can purshase & add thousands of $ to make that car run a faster 1/4 time. But thats not what the Z06 was designed for! You would have to spend a equal amount or more to make any Ford a worthy competitor to any Z06 on a track.

its not just a muscle car, its a circut car with american motor, its superior to most cars in its class, its betten murcielago's from rolling starts before and can beat zo6's the GTX1 is also awsome, gaining 150 hp ( 550 --> 700) and still using a 5.4 litre, when the corvette uses, what a 7? its the same with 2011 mustangs using 5 litres and beating 6.2L camy - just the facts :)

@slayerjohn22 al it is is different testers. The Z06 and ZR1 are hard to drive and hard to learn how to drive fast if you only the car for a day to practice on thats why all the numbers vary. Different driver skills. If you look at what Chevy's number are for their vettes its usually a little quicker with a beyond professional driver.

@DaBluedude100 have you ever driven one? I have. The saleman at the dealer coulnd't even get traction pulling out of the parking lot since it had just barely been washed and he almost wrecked it. That car is a beast if youre not ready for it. The 370z is easy to drive hard, the Z06 is not. As Car and Driver put it, compared to the coupe, grand sport, and ZR1 the Z06 seems useless. But I still love it and Ill be uying one once the C7's come out in 2012 hopefully late 2011.

Yes ive driven 2 stock ones and one that is twin procharged. none are hard to drive. There are lots of people that find them hard to drive but they aren't that bad. I fail to see where the difficulty comes in. It has a clutch, gas pedal and hell even brakes! I will give you that it is a tricky car to heel and toe. And any car 300 hp or over is twitchy out of the wash bay and doubly if they sprayed wax on it. Ive never driven a 370z but cant imagine it would be a handful either.

@mtross70 no. just be aware though even with traction control on it still cant make the car crash proof. When I go to road courses I go in the beginner sessions and when people bring Z06's they always say they love the car on the street but on a road course sometimes its unpredictable with the snap oversteer and how easy the rear breaks loose when accelerating out of corners.

@mtross70 well if you have the cash yeah but the tires tat many C6Z owners buy are the Nitto NT05's which have bad wet traction. The Nitto Invo are good though just not as much lateral traction in dry as the NT05's have. Those OEM run flats are expensive!! When you get your C6Z chances are that you won't push the car to 90% of its limits so I wouldnt worry about it. I mean no offense by that statement.

Lots have been said about the Corvette interior. I challenge any of you to inspect the all-leather 3LZ interior of an 08, 09, or 10. It is very nice, indeed. The quality, fit, and finish is excellent.

A little over a month ago I purchased a 2009 C6 3LZ Z06. Last week I attended the FAASST racing school at VIR (highly recommended). It was an absolutely awsome experience. A road course like the VIR is where the Z06 really shines!

The only car faster than my stock Z06 was a modified Z06 with coil-overs, long-tube headers (less cats and mufflers), different rotors, and Hoosier R's. Man that thing was fast!!! The owner said it produces about 495 hp to the rear wheels. He also said that the only stock vehicles he has seen that give him any competition is the Porsche GT2 and the Ariel Atom. Pretty good company, indeed!

The LS7 has a forged steel crankshaft, Titanium rods & cast pistons. with the exception of the pistons, you are not breaking the other components with 1,000 hp. They could have easily put forged pistons inside, but it would not have helped the cylinder wall problem. I have been a corvette fan for over 27 years and very little about them gets past me. I plan to get an 08 Corvette in the near future.

This test was done in 95* heat, heat soak... The Z06 does the 0-60 in a more realistic 3.7 sec.... the 1\4 mile is spot on...The ZR1 is no faster to 60 mph in this kind of heat, I've seen them ran against eachother in 85* air..What's cool though is that the new 2008-2009 Cobalt SS turbo runs this 700fy cones-slalom in 72.6 mph, that's nearly 3 mph faster then the Z06!!! Z06 has weak internals so forced induction is not a good idea on the Z0... I've seen too many Z0's break or melt valves too.

Ask or check out the making of ZR1. They said initially, the ZR1 was spotting the LS7 supercharged. It was making ridiculous power, and the internal components kept breaking, so they decoded to detune it, going with the smaller 6.2Liter with a supercharger, hence the LS9-6.2L V8.
LS7 = 7.0L (Z06)
LS9 = 6.2L (ZR1)
LS8 = 6.2L detuned (CTS-V)
LS3 = (G8 GXP),
LS2 = 6.0L, (05-06 GTO, Trailblazer SS, C5 Vette, camaro 2009).
Ls1 = 5.7L (04GTO and others)

The Z06 engine does not have weak internals. The block cylinder walls are thin because it is a small block 427. That is why they didn't use for the ZR1 and it didn't offer the longterm reliabilty. There are supercharged Z06s roaming they wanted. The streets making 600+ rwhp at very low boost without a problem.

No BMW does not comes close to the 0-60 times of the Z06 or the ZR-1. BMW 3 Series had among the lowest Powertrain quality and Body & Interior Quality ratings. the only thing that the ZR1 does better is its hi-tech suspension... the z06 has an extremely harsh ride....
for the $30G you save buying the z06 it will murder the ZR1...

dont forget the brakes on the zr1 it does that alooot better then the z06 does. GO WATCH MY Z06 AND ZR1 VIDS

Yeah the breaks are awesome on the zr1..Did you know it had the EXACT same brakes that are on the Ferrari Enzo? :) just a quick fact.

you know, after watching this a while ago, and then watching the ZR1 so much, and then referring back to the Z06, The Z06 is not so far off the ZR1, its almost identical, so why does the ZR1 cost $30,000 more than a base Z06? Just because it has a Supercharger? And come to think of it, the Z06 has a 7.0L LS7 V8, and the Zr1 has a smaller 6.2L LS9 V8. I really dont see why the price has to be so much more! For $30,000 i can use for alot more other things

I agree with you 100% There is not much difference in the z06 and zr1's performance numbers! In my opinion the z06 is a MUCH better buy, and the zr1 is a base corvette with a supercharger!

and dont forget the brakes, and thats all it is, a base Z06 with a Supercharger, a 6.2L LS( motor, and Carbon brakes. Thats it. I can buy a Z06 with the track package, and throw in a supercharger, and still have around $20,000 to spare. for $20,000 i can pay for 3 years of college lol

- handling of the ZO6 is terrible
- ZR1 has better engine
- ZR1 has better brakes
- ZR1 is saver to drive
- ZR1 has better stuff in car like, traction control etc.
maybe i forgot some things that are better on the ZR1 but i think this is already worth $30.000.

well, it cant be that bad according to the numbers on the video, unless your one of those ppl who have a job similiar to inside line or motortrend, or even top gear lol.the zr1 only goes 7mph faster than a z06, yes the brakes are much better, better than a gtr, and the z06 already has traction/stability control. anyway, the zr1 is fantastic, the biggest bargain of a performance car, even a base corvette reaches 190mph
