I'm listening closely, and those are, no doubt, Cissy's Sweet Inspirations on (female) back-ups, anyway. Another under-rated voice and talent of the 20th Century. Like Darlene Love (and the Blossoms), many vocalists of their caliber actually enjoyed being on back-ups: no pressures of demands of front-and-center stardom; steady income; they read music and could command tripple-scale pay; could go home to hubbies and families at the end of each workday, etc. I LOVE ME SOME CISSY HOUSTON!!!

While I SLIGHTLY prefer Darlene, Cissy is just unbelievable. Whitney may have a similar voice, but she can't come anywhere near her mother's style, timing, phrasing, shading, class, and above all, good taste in material.

what I like about Cissy Houston singing secular music is that she NEVER compromised her dignity. Sex and everything that comes with it, doesnt have to be sung by everybody. While Little Richard "liked to ball" with Tutti Frutti, Cissy kept it dignified with "Be My Baby". And I like a raunchy song...but I respect what her limits were...btw, Whitney sounds like her Mom, not the other way around.
