You bet it's Roger's voice, and I am the singer true fan. Can tell. But it may have been done also with some dials at the studio by Roy Thomas Baker, the unsung master of that sound.
Roger Taylor is the dude!!! I always loved his songs and his backing vocals. How lucky were Queen to have him and Freddie Mercury! These guys are all virtuosos.
@Yo1969Yo Actually, both May and Mercury could go both pretty low and high whereas Taylor had the highest note and could easily hit some great high notes.
Too many years of smoking perhaps? There are many great vocalists who can no longer hit the notes like they once did; David Coverdale is a good example.
@SeeYaBassoon Last year in a Twitter Party I posted to Adam: Adam vs. Roger Taylor, who can go higher? Of course he didnt answer, but probably at 60, Rog has lost some of it. But he is STILL AWESOME after all these years, and I am a bigtime Glambert too!
It's so amazing that Roger and Brian actually would've been good singers themselves. Especially Roger had a Rod Stweart like voice plus he could go much higher. A great band which combined so much talent!
so many of this sounds like freddie's voice!!! because freddie did awesome screams too! in my fairy king i think it was freddie and in the prophet song too
It's from The March of The Black Queen. From 0:47 to 0:53 (back voice behind "Do you mean it")it's in the beginning of the song (sth like 0:20), then from 0:54, it's just before the 1st verse of the same song
Its sad but probably its true... With age the voice deteriorates... But still with 60 years he can reach pretty high... may not be perfect... but I think he can do some of those high notes... Maybe he cant prolongue them so well...
those sopranos that sing just like women like the one on britains got talent are just weird but falsetto like rogers really adds to an overall sound i love queen.
Roger could sing in higher notes than Freddie,if u listen carefully in all the 3 vocal harmonies specially in the early days he does sing in the higher notes always,I think only in Innuendo Freddie sung that kind of notes in "all god's people"
F2-E6. Roger didn't sing higher than Freddie, not even in falsetto. His falsetto was stronger than Freddie's in some notes, but Freddie could sing higher, D6, E6, Roger never came close.
This is part of what makes Queen's music so beautiful and unique. Each member contributed so much. The band could never be duplicated. All 4 guys are geniuses and have their own awesome talent.
yep, you're right. That's why I put in the description "Queen, in particular roger taylor". There is a distinct difference between mercury and taylor's falsettos
Question for borealis69: where did u get the pic of roger in those rainbow suspenders during 0:59? cuz he totally ROCKS those suspenders but i cant find the pic anywhere else :(
too obvious hehe, everybody know's that one. Actually, I quite forgot. It started off meaning to just be a collection of "aaaAAHHH"'s a-la fairy fellers. Bohemian Rhapsody is more of an 'eeeeeeee' - that's my excuse anyway.
The "galileo" of Bohemian Rhapsody aren't his highest note, even I can sing it. In the end of the opera section "beelzebut has a demon put aside for mee, for meeee, for meEEEEEEEE" is higher. ^^
if you want to listen to something that sounds unreal listen to the end of the queen song "it's late"... freddie has a ridiculously high note, and its so high it almost sounds like the guitar is making the sound... but trust me its freddie :)
yeah 100% sure, roger did a lot of the high notes like when there were vocal overdubbs and "opera" sections, but freddie did a few as well just by himself and "its late" is probably the best example i can think of :)
When I first heard Queen, the high notes blew me away. Then when I saw what Roger looked like, it was difficult at first to imagine that this voice came out of him!
love that picture in 1:14, because it's taken in Finland :D the text above it says "Queen in Helsinki 1974. In left Freddie Mercury, who died in AIDS 1991" :D
Nice! I too have been waiting a long time to hear this.
The last high note Roger does in 39 here was actually altered or sped up because he refused to do it. I've also wondered whether the secondary voice in March of the Black Queen during the long "aaaaaaaaaaaah" parts is actually done in whistle register or if that's done by instrument. There's a kind of shrill whistle.
I think a lot of the March of the Black Queen highs are actually Mercury rather than Taylor. But yeh I wouldn't be surprised if there was a non-voice note in the mix there.
Didn't know about Taylor's refusing to do the last note on 39 - he did it live though so it was in his capabilities.

In reference to a strong and powerful voice, the only one who is on the same level with Freddie is Elvis.
