That sweet, bubbly, unique aroma that flows out when you crack open a can of Diet Dr. Pepper, cold from refrigeration and ice, followed by that first delicious sip is what makes this my favorite drink. mmm ;)
Is that a young Rita Rudner at 0:25 and 0:38? I know she started her career as a dancer, and she appeared in commercials before she became a stand-up comic (including a rather sexist yogurt commercial that, sadly, I cannot find on YouTube). Also, the dates add up (Rudner would have been in her early 20s when this commercial was shot), and it looks a hell of a lot like her! Can anyone confirm this?
@rosesandcream hmm, she could be. I thought it was Jennifer Grey as she says she came out as a dancer in a 70's Dr. Pepper commercial, the problem is she came out in '79 and this is '72.
That is the way I remember Dr Pepper was labled in those days, but I do not remember the commercial though. Me TV and Me Too in Chicago has one of the first Dr. Pepper comerials I saw though.
Hi mom...yeah...doing good!....Yes I'm sure...Yes I made the right decision....Oh? Work?...well I did this commercial....What was it about?...well, I basically sang about Dr. Pepper all day....oh, what was the song?..."I Could Sing About Dr. Pepper All Day"...yeah, I know I already said that....that's what the song was....MOM...we go through this every time I call home....I'm NOT marrying Jimmy!.....One hundred bucks to come home?.....See you tomorrow!
AAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...............the Golden Age of Porn. This commercial was shot at a time when these women were deepthroating massive juicy penises. They were racing over to attend the nastiest, filthiest, erotic orgies in human history. AAaahhhhh.... the golden years. These women didn't have to worry about AIDS at that time. They just did what they wanted without any worries. It was an Anything Goes Festival. They gave blowjobs all night long. They got screwed to anybody anytime...etc
@mrgkyle Id have to agree, it looks a little bit too "slick" for '72. The hairstyles and clothes suggest very early disco era, about 1975. And the DP logo on the bottle more mid 70's As a child of the 70's, I tend to recognize the "look and feel" of certain eras.
nah it didnt start out as a medicine, the guy who made it was trying to get this girl. the girls dads name was Mr pepper and he was a doctor. so the guy named the soda after him to try to get the girl. i mean thats just what i heard
During the Cold War years, either late 70's or early 80's there was a very amusing Dr Pepper commercial. Apparently set at a diplomatic function. The staff, serving beverages and hors d'oeuvres was greatly distressed by the Soviet Ambassador's wife who could not be pleased no matter what the courteous staff offered. Finally, with a heavy accent, the wife exclaimed "Dr Peeper!". Immediately a Dr. Pepper was offered and suddenly the world was a happier place.
do they say "TEA YES!" because i dont thithink its tea... did u know the origanal docter peper was sold as a medicen by a Dr.Peper then so many people liked the drink he turned it into a soda! the things u learn each day ;)
This is an outstanding classic commercial from 1972 and even though it was obviously first aired before I was born, I absolutely love it!!! Those girls are all extremely beautiful and modern for the seventies and their dance moves are incredibly awesome!!!
I was in high school at the time, and these commercials just give you a taste of how cool the 70s were, it was a fun time to be young and by the way the girls in this commercial dress and dance just like they did then. The high waist pants were especially popular then. They really show off the curves!!!
dr. pepper was always weird. i mean wtf are you drinking anyway? they reached a low point taking on that chocolate rain guy though, is that flavor even still out there?
The budget of this commercial called for producers to get extremely creative. A tiny soundstage forced the choreography into stand-still-and-dance mode.
OMG, it's The Rockettes during the off season!

I thought they would drink the dr. pepper in the commercial, but since they were shaking the bottle as they danced, I would wait too.

I would tend to agree. Although what flags it for me are the High waisted bellbottom pants that were popular 73' - 79'
Low waisted bellbottom pants, better known as "Hip Huggers" were popular 68' - 72'

The narrator of this has been doing voice over commercials for years. He does a current one for Boars Head meats I believe.

I am not sure but It sounds like the actor Arnold Stang who passed away recently.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it's Milt Moss. Something about the voice reminds me of the narration in the movie "Gizmo!"
