Like the finest wine , aged under the right conditions. Music for grown people with taste for music that creeps and creeps. This number is absolutely fantastic.
I hear Ya ... Al is the master ... didn't know he was an accountant ... wow ... that's what I fell into; finally ditched it and now I'm out singing my azz off ... like God wanted from the start
al jarreau,a former accountant, now legendary jazzartist,he has andalways been one of my influences in the jazz world.from his imaganary sax ,scatting ,and his singing makes you want to sing ,loud and proud.HOLLA,if ya hear me!
Remember seing the video to this song on MTV many many years ago. It was an inimated video with AJ singing this song. Wish someone will find that video and post it on here. great music, great song and of course, one and only voice and style.
I just feel like a bird in the sky and climbing into the clouds listening this song.I heard it the first time at 17 years old and it seemed to me a magical music and i could imagine clouds easily...22 years ago.THis singer has a sweet voice too,a fantasizing voice...
Thank you aihoschema, for the very knowledgeable information. I was lost pretty early in your explanation, but one thing I do know - I agree that it's cool! Really cool!
@judygrell That's a 4/4 time signature (check the straight ahead snare backbeat) - But it is divided into in triplets. Same as Toto's "Rosanna" and many a Streely Dan swing beat. The most legible way to write it is in 8th triplets, but it is playd in half feel (snare backbeat on 3rd beat). What might get some people confused is the playing of the second note of the 8th note triplet in certain places (cool!).
@wreepeet O.K. this is 4/4 time, but in half feel. Check the snare. It is on the third beat, and that's very likely how it is written, but you actualy feel the beat in half time (two bars feel like one and snare feels like being on beats 2 and 4). Now this is a swing beat - the sub division being in triplets, not even eigths. The horn section even plays a lot of triplets same as some of the drum fills. The triplets are very likely written as eights note triplets. I can write it down.
Yeah, That's just Al kim123792. I give you that notion, seeing that this smooth ass tune does sound a bit EWF-ish with the vocals & the horns. "Easy" is another favorite from this album.
@musiclover77able This album in general brings back a lot of memories for me as a lil boy...taking Pop's to work @ Military Circle or going to doctor's office over in Mid-town Norfolk or just being smart enough to appreciate it the age of 8...time flies but good music stands still.
LOVE THIS SONG !!!!!

@2009Denisem Was very very "toasted" for Al's concert @ASU.
I was in the front row.
He got down on his knee and sang to me for about 5 songs worth!
He is phenominal!
I was so blown away from him...
I couldn't talk or comment for the rest of the evening '-'
