We spent a lot of time there when I was a kid. Ford used too have their annual picnic their in the summer. Such a shame to see yet another piece of my childhood getting turned into something for rich folks.
I found photos of this place two or three years ago, it had inspired me to write a fictional story about an abandoned park... I had written a line in it saying "whoever purchased the land is probably going to demo it and put in a strip mall or something" . Now i haven't finished it yet.. but i wrote that back in 2007-08... This is very depressing because i lived in ohio at the time but couldn't ever go over and check the bark out at all...
Just goes to show you that Americans don't have any concept of keeping anything at all. Europe has its Old World charm because IT IS OLD WORLD! We build and destroy!
@pivotraider1 Noooooo..... I was born raised and live in AMERICA! Yes the USA! American's don't have a 5,000 year old place to call their own, like Stonehenge or where Christ lived! Racist?? Hardly, I didn't judge you here but yet you decided to put a name on me that I don't like! Grow Up!
@losky1 it's not the main stream Americans that want these places torn down. It's huge corporations want the land. Amusement parks for the most part were privately owned in the usa. As the cost to run, maintain and "insure" these parks rose the owners just could not afford to operate them anymore. In the USA law suits are frequent. As these places have more litigation brought against them their insurance costs sky rocket. It's not the average American that wants these torn down
It's crazy to see that place with all the trees down. Just watching this video gave me much more of an idea of how beautiful the place must've looked back when it was wide open to the sun and everything. I saw it once, but all those trees made it hard to tell where things were and how the park wound it's way around and stuff. This gave me much more of an idea of how it "sort of" looked in the years it was open.
My brother and I want to fly out and see this but we can't find a definitive answer about how much time we have and if the Saturday tours are still going on? When is the final demolition? Do you just show up for the tour? Any info would be very appreciated!
Tours are still sat 11-5, but if your flying out I'd try to contact the owner. It's more of a "walk about" where you have free run of a pre--marked area.

@losky1 - well some Americans do. Many protested to save this park. It's the developers that are plaguing America.

I used to go there as a kid. Then they closed it and had the Octoberfest there for a while.

rcbif101 2 years ago
Did they also have problems with toxic stuff left in the ground and water?

I saw the 'Chippewa Lake Park 1878-2009 Documentary'
The fact that a tree literally grew through the Ferris Wheel...is very amazing. Kind of sad too.

If you watch my other longer chip lake vid, you'll see a full size tree that grew through a park bench
