  • I got this game so cheaply for the PSP new ($5) and its awesome! I feel overpowered though. I'm at this point of the game and my Ramza is level 12 and everyone else is level 8 and up. Should I tone it down with grinding?

  • I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out.

  • The blowing the grass blade, that sound is the same as screech in pokemon im sure :D

  • adrenaline rush (speed save) costs 900jp in the psp version!!!! wtf!

  • should've left algus to die a few ep back

  • that cut scene in the Mandalia Plains is a lot better in the Iphone version

  • when delita punched the the asshole I was yelling "Hit him again!!"

  • For the Back to the Future reference, just go to watch?v=kh9PYtmVybU

  • well the guys do remind me of nazis so the blonde hair is rather fitting

  • I know the cutscenes in this game look exactly like the regular game play, but that's just the way I like it,when I played the PSP version and saw the cutscenes...it just loohed freaky to me,it was nice to see how it looks and it was an okay experience, but it really didn't sit right with me,Im just a sucker for the original ^_^

  • 7:54~~ HA, you did your homework, didn't you?

  • someone might have already said this but... it is a knight sword, the Defender

  • Delita and Teta don't have blonde hair... and they are also just commoners... face it, this game reeks of supremacy and inbreeding... Teta was the only hope for Ivalice to have a healthy gene pool, and look at what happened. But I guess since this is Ivalice, there's always the option for inter-species breeding with Vieras. ;)

  • lol Nostalgia Critic reference.

  • you know, i saw the PSP remake at Target for $10

  • Since Golagros doesn't have a unique sprite and barely has a unique portrait, you KNOW he'll be integral to the story for a long time.

  • SCREW YOU ALGUS! that is all

  • Delita: We shouldn't kill this sword wielding mad woman!!!!

    Algus: U mad bro?

    Ramza: '_'

  • PSN not pan (auto correct)...

  • I hope square Enix would release the original psx version on pan so I can play it on psp and the vita without lag...

  • @Ui2019 the wondrous world of custom firmware can make that happen, if you dare enter it.

  • @Ui2019

    isn't it there already?

  • 2 BTTF references in one video, nice.

  • Delita's gestures remind me of Barret's hilarious arm waving dialogue gesture in FF7.

  • They were blowing on grass like an instrument. Just thought i'd let you know :P in WoTL it's alot more clear and actually sounds like it lol

  • Yea, it looked like either a Diamond sword or an Ancient sword.

  • HCBailly doesnt want to sit on dialogue for more than five or ten seconds because he does not have l i t t l e m o n e y.

  • BTW, the sword Zalbag used there was the "Ancient Sword"

  • @fftgamer It was definitely the diamond sword. The ancient sword is thinner and has a notable red mark on it.

  • I think it was just to show that Ramza and Delita are good buddies with a long history together to set the mood for some scenes later on.

  • Also about that scene with Delita, I think that the annoying sounds are grasswhistsles, which is a recurring thing in Japanese works (to my experience at least) as a pastime. It's kind of an equivalent to skipping stones. One of those cliché "we're sitting in the field enjoying nature" moments.

  • 04:30 Can you tell that I'm planning prevenge?

  • I think the sword is either a Diamond Sword, which looks kinda that orangish color.

  • "Get out, Algus! But before that, strip naked and leave all your equipment here!"

  • LET HER GO ANAKIN!!! Let.....her....go....

  • I can't wait until you get to kill a certain asshat who will go unnamed =D

  • HC, its better when you can show your viewers that you can survive the encounter despite having your buffs fail and the enemies' debuffs succeed. nubs gotta learn how to sandbag, and sandbagging isn't as bad as people think.

  • no, it make like a tree and leave. you sound like a damn fool when you say it

  • would be better if delita just killed that brat on the spot instead of later :/

  • Mcfly make like a tree and get out of here!!

  • Oh shiz HCbailly is doing final fantasy tactics :o! Why didn't i know about this >:(. I was gonna do an LP of this soon but now i gotta wait. Come check out my Metroid Fusion LP if you're interested tho!

  • "the only to attack is from the rear." Im suprised i didnt hear a more vivid comment.

  • Not so much a Let's Play Episode so much as 'Since Last Time on Final Fantasy Tactics....' Build up to the next battle. Not a complaint at all, was still fun to watch and get some of the story. Just how it seemed today, I kinda laughed because was all loaded from files. XD

  • Was that a Nostalgia Critic reference?!? Yes!!! HCBailly, your cool factor just went up exponentially! :D

  • @Sakura1Irving HCBailly made more then one reference to NC, even in his older LPs. But this one was so obvious. I perefer when they'er more discreet.

  • i think we need the speech function to successfully pronounce "Beoulve"...

i remember when i was 7 years old playing this game, id pronounce it "Be-love"

  • me: as a blkck mage LIGHTNING

albus: what the hell are... AGGGGHHHH!!!

me :oops sorry anyone have a BIIIIIIIG bandaid

  • did HCB just reference the Nostalgia Critic? coolio. also, HCBailly, with RD, will you be doing all the sidequests? I am having trouble with a few, like the node with Raine confessing her love, getting the Moon Armlet, and cheering up Bram. great LP!

  • OMG! HCBaily watches the NC!!!!! He just gained like +5 in his awesome stat!

  • HCBailly, I believe the point of the reed whistle is meant to show the bond between Ramza and Delita.

  • Kuja > Algus in terms of elitism. Kuja had a much more subtle brand of contempt for everyone around him.

  • @JeffroTheMan1 That and the whole trying to end all existence because he'd die someday.

  • @MisterCrim Sure, sure. But from what I've seen of the LP so far, Algus is a relatively minor character, so to compare Kuja's urge to destroy all existence to Algus being a rich snob who hates poor people is kind of like comparing apples and oranges.

  • The reason your buffs and debuffs are working the way you want is that zodiac compatibility only decides 60% of the cast chance. Thats why you have Faith, any faith over 70 adds 4%-6% cast increase but this is also based off of spell evade. Faith over 80 adds 7%-10% cast increase.

  • Also the concentrate skill does not apply to skills, it only applies to physical attacks. That would be a bit cheap to use the Death spell with a Calc applying concentrate with it. The only other skill set that works with concentrate is the Mediator class, and only 4 of their skills will directly apply the concentrate perk, Also it doesnt quit remove their evade, it removes the S-ev and C-ev but not A-ev it reduces it by 45% for archers, 35% for melee.

  • Tho is WoTL his graphic pallet for that sword is a bit darker and makes it look like a Blood Sword. This was also removed in the US release in favor for a more favorable pallet in which case they gave him the Excalibur scheme.

  • OMG....its the Materia Blade graphic. The Japanese release had Zalbag using the limit skill as his skill pool, this was removed in the US release in favor for you know who.

  • 8:20 was my fav part

  • the sword look like the ancient sword u get later that causes the don't move status

  • Really enjoying this lp! Ive never played any of the tactics spin-offs so this is a treat!

But I have a question: HCB, do you plan to play FF12, FF10, FF10-2, and or FF12 Revenant Wings?

  • I always find it funny Algus calls Razma a Spoiled-rotten Boy, when he is the one acting like a spoiled rich boy.

  • Grass flute moment reminds of that song, "What About Breakfast at Tiffany's?"

Oh man, I can't wait for the battle after the next one. Will you be dragging it out?

  • I thought concentration made every hit a sure hit, 100% chance of hitting someone. Or is that only on the WoTL version?

  • @DJ96829 Concentrate only removes all of the enemy evade. Often times, this will make your attacks hit 100%. However, not all attacks have a base 100% chance to hit. For example, stealing with Concentrate will remove the enemy's chance to evade, but you still don't have a 100% chance to steal.

  • ALMAS BROTHER WAS LIKE LOL 1 SHOT NUB

  • AHAHAHA Did Bailley just quote TNC? Awesome. Except it wasnt a big lipped alligator moment, because it is referenced again later in the story =P. BLAMs... Blams? Ok thats awesome. ANYWAYS, Blams are things that are way over the top events that happen and are never mentioned again. Like that night in Vegas.

  • "see all these trees? Get out of here!"

  • Algus has 1 servant.

  • Maybe blonde hair is a common hair color in that country like red in Ireland or blonde in germany

  • That might be a blood sword? I think the color is right.

  • Delita: Falcon pawnch!

  • Algus: U mad, Delita?

  • please tell me that algus becomes a villain and you get to beat the shit out of him

  • Algus. The biggest d*ck in the game.

  • I've always thought that Delita making a whistle out of a piece of grass was symbolic. He's just a commoner, as common as a blade of grass...but even a blade of grass can be something more, like an instrument. It's kind of symbolic as to how his character progresses throughout the game.

  • HCB, could you give us an inventory list (albeit roughly with consumables like Potions). I, and probably we, would like to know what to hold and sell, in addition to buying new gear...or are you hoarding every last thing you get your hands on?

  • @Kraleck I really don't worry about consumables that much. Early on, Potions were nice, but I don't really need them much any more.

  • @HCBailly Ah...gotcha. So what about the equipment, then? I know consumables come and go quickly, but what about the rest?

  • @HCBailly At 11:35 do you watch the Nostalgia Critic, or the Nostalgia Chick, or both?

  • @Kraleck

This isn't really a game where you need to hoard. This early on you can sell all your items aside from Potions and Phoenix Downs if you want (especially if you're not going to level up a chemist super fast to pick up the remedy skill, which isn't really very necessary in chapter one anyway). This gives loads of money (as some of those consumables are pricey). Also any equipment you don't wear anymore can be sold (especially if it's outdated).

  • Igros! Igros! Iiiigros! ....it's only a model. SHHHH!

  • @Raditz86 Heh...I just looked back at the Emerald Weapon fight in HCB's FF7 LP the other day. Still makes me laugh watching that...particular scene...

  • HCBailly in hockey there has always been punishment its a 5 minute major for fighting for both combatants .....maybe even a fine ....

  • That sword Zalbag used looked a lot like the Ancient Sword.

  • "THINK MC.FLY! THINK! Or...Uh...Die."

  • 8:20 IT'S LEAVE....MAKE LIKE A TREE AND LEAVE...YOU SOUND LIKE A G** D*** FOOL WHEN YOU SAY IT THAT WAY...That's just as dumb as screen doors on a battle ship.

(It's screen doors on a submarine...)

  • The sword graphic that Zalbag uses is the same as the Materia Blade.

  • The grass flute scene is to build up characterization between Delita and Ramza, and sets up a moment later in the story.

  • Hc baily will u make a walkthrough for final fantasy tactics advanced

  • If I am not mistaken HCBailly, that sword Zalbag used is a Coral Sword. I'm not 100% sure, though.

  • Looked like a defender to me.

  • HCBailly, I don't think I have ever wanted that one line you say so often to be true. "And he died." Him and Algus both, They're despicable.

  • I do not think it was the Rune Blade, but I think it was the Diamond Blade, which you can not purchase until Chapter 3...I'll stop there so no spoilers. ^-^

  • Final fantasy tactics in a nutshell;

    1 part plot related battle

    200 parts of random battles/grinding

1 big clump of cut scenes

    a pinch of L I T T L E M O N E Y

  • @fatmannaruto I had a 120 hour game where I grinded to level 95 (my very first game ever).

In that game, it was about 200 grinding for 1 plot battle, yeah.

Then I played another game just not caring about levelling and beat the game at level 35-40. That was more like 2/1 grinding/story.

Funnily enough, the second time was *easier*, because I never used special characters in my first playthrough. (but man did I love my dual knight-sword wielding knight with Jump)

  • @fatmannaruto

Well, you don't really need to do much grinding. If you're efficient about it, you can master entire classes in a single random battle. Takes maybe 20 minutes? It's not really that imbalanced with the story IF you choose to grind. Certainly not if you keep it to a minimum.

  • Btw; The Reed-Flute is something that can actually be done. I've played the Reed-Flute before. It is, however, wrongly depicted in the game. Well, I suppose you may have been able to play it with one hand, but you pinch a piece of grass from two spots spots between your thumbs, leaving a space between the middle of your thumbs so the tightly pinched piece of grass is in that space, but pinched on both ends with your thumb tips and the bottom of them. Then blow into it. Tada!

  • For a few episodes, I've realised that HCBailly had made a mistake a while back in the 'Let's Play' series. He saved that d*** Algus when he should of let that d*** die.

  • I really prefer the reed-flute scene in the PSP remake. Delita's struggle is much better done. In this he just seems sad, not angry. Delita is furious about his struggle! He's no passive puppy. He's an attack dog.

  • @6: 58 when X punches Z HCBailly should've said "FOOMY PAWNCH!"

  • 8:19 you should have said "Make like a hockey stick, and get the puck out of here". Yeah, yeah... I know it's corny...

  • 1.21 GIGAWATTS!! Hey, I had to throw my own Back to the Future reference in there somewhere. I just watched that whole trilogy last week.

  • "I trust Ramza!" says Delita as he shoves Ramza down after he choked him a minute ago.

  • @Zaychavitch I'm of the opinion that Delita is just a giant douche, I actually like algus better than him. Not so much during this part of the game.

  • reed flute part= BRO-MANCE

  • you know its not gay to have a pony tail but in ramza's case its hard to see if he is a she or she is a he ahh i confused my self FUUUUUUUU

  • algus is falling to the power of the darkside!

  • Delita PUUUNCH!!!!!

  • Clearly HC Bailey has never tried to make noise with a piece of grass. Basically, you take a wide piece of grass, hold it between your two thumbs and then blow into it. It makes the noise you hear in the game.

  • @VashFanboy1 Exactly.

  • 11:34 OMG! That was an Awesomesauce Nostalgia Critic/ Nostalgia Chick reference HCBaily! :D

  • In the comment I'd made, Bailly, I said Delita was an exception. You need to read comments more carefully.

  • HC- I think the significance of blowing the reed flutes was to attempt to reconnect to a simpler time when they were friends. it's a big block of foreshadowing for the conflict yet to come...but no spoilers here 8)

  • Well I felt the point was that they were bonding. We see that they are friends, but that felt like it was a personal moment to the two of them to act like brothers. The Reed Flutes were just a piece of their childhood that they had together, and it's also a sign that something drastic is going to happen soon in their lives.... probably

  • reed flute as abillity:

"Annoying sound that can piss off people"

Cause [berserk] on multiple enemies and allies...

  • Algus really looks like he'd fit right in with those Hitler Youth enthusiasts back in the day.

  • Looks like he was using the Diamond Sword

  • @DrGooz305 Thats my thoughts as well, its not the rune blade and its not the ancient sword for sure. Rune blade looks like a normal sword and the ancient sword is way to skinny for that model. I would put my money on diamond sword.

  • JB has a ponytail?

  • The color for Zalbag's weapon looks like the Ancient Sword to me

  • Oh come on, HCBailly. You never played the reed flute as a kid?

  • Story yay but no juicy battle -_-

  • Damn, HC, I was expecting you to go "Eeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!"

  • I started playing again because of your LP xD

Already defeated Miluda with my 2 ninjas. Accumulate is such a good ability.

  • 11:14 - The point is to annoy the player.

    BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

    BREEEEEEEEEEEEE

Seriously that scene is ten kinds of pointless. For all this game does right, there's a lot that it does wrong too.

  • @theauthorman123 Though now that I think of it, it was prolly there for character development. Specifically to set up Ramza and Delita's friendship a bit more thoroughly.

  • alligator moment quote i would never think you would say that here.

  • 11:03 Dumb and Dumber reference? im guessing.

  • 8:21 One swear word away from being a Boondock Saints reference.

  • I've finally started my own play through, though I did my zodiacs a bit different.

I hope I'm not the only person who makes sure Algus is dead before any battle ends and keeps him on the basic equipment so he always dies.

Glad to see what you're doing with Ramza and the archer now, cause I've been sitting on a fair bit of JP with the archer haha.

  • Blondies are noblemen back then. Guess that's why they turned out they way they did in today's society

  • yay birthday update

  • Well, Algus is a noble so of course he would be rude and jerkish. Ramza is one of the few who are not like that.

  • So wait, after 3 years it's only now you get the "Let's Play Curse"? XD

  • Dycedarg comes limping out.

    HCBailly: "Hey, how's it goin?"

    XD Nice comment there :P

  • I went to a farm recently and I was taught how to play a reed flute. Like a character later in the game, I couldn't do it at all... It was funny to think of that while I tried.

I wouldn't really call it a big-lipped alligator moment. It does get mentioned at least one time later. I felt like it had a point.

  • hey algus your about to get ctrl alt delita'd

    bad puns ftl

  • Algus is such an ass.

  • Algus brilliantly sets the tone for the class struggles in this game. They did a great job with his character.

  • 2:01 God dammit HC Bailly you made the joke before i could

  • Terrible flute playing ._.

  • @HCBailly Buildings in video games are always bigger inside than they are outside.

  • HCBailly, You said earlier that you disliked using monsters in your party and I was curious as to why that is. I know the major drawback is that they can only attack unless they have another ability, which means that their unable to cast spells or use items and what not; but I've found that most of the monsters, like the Red Chocobo and such, often hit for very high amounts once you max out their Brave and will also Counter most melee attacks too because of the high Brave stat.

  • @EvolSyrup Personally, I like using Behemoths (all 3 types) and Tiamats along with a character that has Monster Skill ability.

  • @ElfSponge I see your fond of what I like to call the "Power house" monsters :3 I prefer using a Red Chocobo and a Vampire (the purple panther). Both are hitting for about 500-600 hp at max lvl/Brave, which is a good chunk of the majority of the enemies you'll fight even at that lvl with the exception of said Behemoths and Tiamats.

  • God, Algus is such a dickweed.

  • Someone here spends alot of time on TVTropes...

  • I thought the grass flute was a nice plot device. It was one of the few things that commoners and nobles shared. Balbanes taught it to Delita, and both Alma and Delita taught it to a character who thought she was a noble but finds out she is really a commoner. I like it because it shows that commoners and nobles are the same.

  • Anyone else think Algus should get a lightning bolt shoved up his ass? XD

  • @TianaSidhe

seconded. followed by a blender like tornado down his throat.

  • @TianaSidhe rememeber that for later

  • @TianaSidhe

All in due time... all in due time.

  • That is one guest we all are glad took off.

  • @Zenryu7 What? I still liked using him as cannon fodder...

  • Would the concentrate ability also work with magic or just physical/ranged attacks?

  • Algus/Argath is my least favourite character of all games. I freaking hate that bastard! Good thing he leaves.

  • algus is the gary oak of this game

  • @iamthepkmmaster

    except less cool

  • @Wanderingsage7 very true, very true

  • I remember my mother teaching my brothers and I how to use a leaf-whistle. It's pretty easy but at the time we thought it was the most amazing thing ever.

  • For all that Algus is a class-A asshat, he probably does consider Ramza a friend. He did drop the hint as where to find Teta, afterall...

  • Thanks for suggesting Radiant Historia Hcbailly. I just got the game and I'm looking forward to your lp

  • @agranosclem basically every time your unit gains JP, the other active units in battle recieve a few JP in that job class. So if Ramza attacked as a knight, the other units in the battle get a few JP for the knight job class.

@HCBailly loving the LP but just a question, will you be deequiping a certain party member before a certain battle in chapter 2? (I know who it is, but i'm not going to spoil it for those that don't).

  • you know HCBailly maybe you should record a few episodes at a time if you have the time it might help a few things be a little easier

  • I'm still not sure how JP Spillover works X_x

  • oh sorry, I thought you ment the JP glitch >_>

The spillover: If you have a Knight and Wizard and the Knight gains JP, maybe 1 or 2 of those JP get spillover to your other party members in the battle. Not that hard right?

  • @agranosclem For every 4 JP you earn in a job class, 1 JP spills over to everyone else in your party, assuming that they have unlocked that job class already. Gained JP Up does not boost the spillover JP, so it's more like for every 6 JP you earn, 1 JP spills over.

  • @HCBailly I don't know about the PSX version, but in the PSP version you don't have to unlock the job for a characters first. Yesterday, I had 4 Thieves and my Ramza was a Knight and he hadn't unlock Thief yet. But when he did unlock it he had 2000 JP in thief.
