I got this game so cheaply for the PSP new ($5) and its awesome! I feel overpowered though. I'm at this point of the game and my Ramza is level 12 and everyone else is level 8 and up. Should I tone it down with grinding?
I know the cutscenes in this game look exactly like the regular game play, but that's just the way I like it,when I played the PSP version and saw the cutscenes...it just loohed freaky to me,it was nice to see how it looks and it was an okay experience, but it really didn't sit right with me,Im just a sucker for the original ^_^
Delita and Teta don't have blonde hair... and they are also just commoners... face it, this game reeks of supremacy and inbreeding... Teta was the only hope for Ivalice to have a healthy gene pool, and look at what happened. But I guess since this is Ivalice, there's always the option for inter-species breeding with Vieras. ;)
Also about that scene with Delita, I think that the annoying sounds are grasswhistsles, which is a recurring thing in Japanese works (to my experience at least) as a pastime. It's kind of an equivalent to skipping stones. One of those cliché "we're sitting in the field enjoying nature" moments.
HC, its better when you can show your viewers that you can survive the encounter despite having your buffs fail and the enemies' debuffs succeed. nubs gotta learn how to sandbag, and sandbagging isn't as bad as people think.
Oh shiz HCbailly is doing final fantasy tactics :o! Why didn't i know about this >:(. I was gonna do an LP of this soon but now i gotta wait. Come check out my Metroid Fusion LP if you're interested tho!
Not so much a Let's Play Episode so much as 'Since Last Time on Final Fantasy Tactics....' Build up to the next battle. Not a complaint at all, was still fun to watch and get some of the story. Just how it seemed today, I kinda laughed because was all loaded from files. XD
did HCB just reference the Nostalgia Critic? coolio. also, HCBailly, with RD, will you be doing all the sidequests? I am having trouble with a few, like the node with Raine confessing her love, getting the Moon Armlet, and cheering up Bram. great LP!
@MisterCrim Sure, sure. But from what I've seen of the LP so far, Algus is a relatively minor character, so to compare Kuja's urge to destroy all existence to Algus being a rich snob who hates poor people is kind of like comparing apples and oranges.
The reason your buffs and debuffs are working the way you want is that zodiac compatibility only decides 60% of the cast chance. Thats why you have Faith, any faith over 70 adds 4%-6% cast increase but this is also based off of spell evade. Faith over 80 adds 7%-10% cast increase.
Also the concentrate skill does not apply to skills, it only applies to physical attacks. That would be a bit cheap to use the Death spell with a Calc applying concentrate with it. The only other skill set that works with concentrate is the Mediator class, and only 4 of their skills will directly apply the concentrate perk, Also it doesnt quit remove their evade, it removes the S-ev and C-ev but not A-ev it reduces it by 45% for archers, 35% for melee.
Tho is WoTL his graphic pallet for that sword is a bit darker and makes it look like a Blood Sword. This was also removed in the US release in favor for a more favorable pallet in which case they gave him the Excalibur scheme.
OMG....its the Materia Blade graphic. The Japanese release had Zalbag using the limit skill as his skill pool, this was removed in the US release in favor for you know who.
@DJ96829 Concentrate only removes all of the enemy evade. Often times, this will make your attacks hit 100%. However, not all attacks have a base 100% chance to hit. For example, stealing with Concentrate will remove the enemy's chance to evade, but you still don't have a 100% chance to steal.
AHAHAHA Did Bailley just quote TNC? Awesome. Except it wasnt a big lipped alligator moment, because it is referenced again later in the story =P. BLAMs... Blams? Ok thats awesome. ANYWAYS, Blams are things that are way over the top events that happen and are never mentioned again. Like that night in Vegas.
I've always thought that Delita making a whistle out of a piece of grass was symbolic. He's just a commoner, as common as a blade of grass...but even a blade of grass can be something more, like an instrument. It's kind of symbolic as to how his character progresses throughout the game.
HCB, could you give us an inventory list (albeit roughly with consumables like Potions). I, and probably we, would like to know what to hold and sell, in addition to buying new gear...or are you hoarding every last thing you get your hands on?
This isn't really a game where you need to hoard. This early on you can sell all your items aside from Potions and Phoenix Downs if you want (especially if you're not going to level up a chemist super fast to pick up the remedy skill, which isn't really very necessary in chapter one anyway). This gives loads of money (as some of those consumables are pricey). Also any equipment you don't wear anymore can be sold (especially if it's outdated).
@Raditz86 Heh...I just looked back at the Emerald Weapon fight in HCB's FF7 LP the other day. Still makes me laugh watching that...particular scene...
8:20 IT'S LEAVE....MAKE LIKE A TREE AND LEAVE...YOU SOUND LIKE A G** D*** FOOL WHEN YOU SAY IT THAT WAY...That's just as dumb as screen doors on a battle ship.
I do not think it was the Rune Blade, but I think it was the Diamond Blade, which you can not purchase until Chapter 3...I'll stop there so no spoilers. ^-^
@fatmannaruto I had a 120 hour game where I grinded to level 95 (my very first game ever).
In that game, it was about 200 grinding for 1 plot battle, yeah.
Then I played another game just not caring about levelling and beat the game at level 35-40. That was more like 2/1 grinding/story.
Funnily enough, the second time was *easier*, because I never used special characters in my first playthrough. (but man did I love my dual knight-sword wielding knight with Jump)
Well, you don't really need to do much grinding. If you're efficient about it, you can master entire classes in a single random battle. Takes maybe 20 minutes? It's not really that imbalanced with the story IF you choose to grind. Certainly not if you keep it to a minimum.
Btw; The Reed-Flute is something that can actually be done. I've played the Reed-Flute before. It is, however, wrongly depicted in the game. Well, I suppose you may have been able to play it with one hand, but you pinch a piece of grass from two spots spots between your thumbs, leaving a space between the middle of your thumbs so the tightly pinched piece of grass is in that space, but pinched on both ends with your thumb tips and the bottom of them. Then blow into it. Tada!
For a few episodes, I've realised that HCBailly had made a mistake a while back in the 'Let's Play' series. He saved that d*** Algus when he should of let that d*** die.
I really prefer the reed-flute scene in the PSP remake. Delita's struggle is much better done. In this he just seems sad, not angry. Delita is furious about his struggle! He's no passive puppy. He's an attack dog.
Clearly HC Bailey has never tried to make noise with a piece of grass. Basically, you take a wide piece of grass, hold it between your two thumbs and then blow into it. It makes the noise you hear in the game.
HC- I think the significance of blowing the reed flutes was to attempt to reconnect to a simpler time when they were friends. it's a big block of foreshadowing for the conflict yet to come...but no spoilers here 8)
Well I felt the point was that they were bonding. We see that they are friends, but that felt like it was a personal moment to the two of them to act like brothers. The Reed Flutes were just a piece of their childhood that they had together, and it's also a sign that something drastic is going to happen soon in their lives.... probably
@DrGooz305 Thats my thoughts as well, its not the rune blade and its not the ancient sword for sure. Rune blade looks like a normal sword and the ancient sword is way to skinny for that model. I would put my money on diamond sword.
@theauthorman123 Though now that I think of it, it was prolly there for character development. Specifically to set up Ramza and Delita's friendship a bit more thoroughly.
I went to a farm recently and I was taught how to play a reed flute. Like a character later in the game, I couldn't do it at all... It was funny to think of that while I tried.
I wouldn't really call it a big-lipped alligator moment. It does get mentioned at least one time later. I felt like it had a point.
HCBailly, You said earlier that you disliked using monsters in your party and I was curious as to why that is. I know the major drawback is that they can only attack unless they have another ability, which means that their unable to cast spells or use items and what not; but I've found that most of the monsters, like the Red Chocobo and such, often hit for very high amounts once you max out their Brave and will also Counter most melee attacks too because of the high Brave stat.
@ElfSponge I see your fond of what I like to call the "Power house" monsters :3 I prefer using a Red Chocobo and a Vampire (the purple panther). Both are hitting for about 500-600 hp at max lvl/Brave, which is a good chunk of the majority of the enemies you'll fight even at that lvl with the exception of said Behemoths and Tiamats.
I thought the grass flute was a nice plot device. It was one of the few things that commoners and nobles shared. Balbanes taught it to Delita, and both Alma and Delita taught it to a character who thought she was a noble but finds out she is really a commoner. I like it because it shows that commoners and nobles are the same.
I remember my mother teaching my brothers and I how to use a leaf-whistle. It's pretty easy but at the time we thought it was the most amazing thing ever.
@agranosclem basically every time your unit gains JP, the other active units in battle recieve a few JP in that job class. So if Ramza attacked as a knight, the other units in the battle get a few JP for the knight job class.
@HCBailly loving the LP but just a question, will you be deequiping a certain party member before a certain battle in chapter 2? (I know who it is, but i'm not going to spoil it for those that don't).
The spillover: If you have a Knight and Wizard and the Knight gains JP, maybe 1 or 2 of those JP get spillover to your other party members in the battle. Not that hard right?
@agranosclem For every 4 JP you earn in a job class, 1 JP spills over to everyone else in your party, assuming that they have unlocked that job class already. Gained JP Up does not boost the spillover JP, so it's more like for every 6 JP you earn, 1 JP spills over.
@HCBailly I don't know about the PSX version, but in the PSP version you don't have to unlock the job for a characters first. Yesterday, I had 4 Thieves and my Ramza was a Knight and he hadn't unlock Thief yet. But when he did unlock it he had 2000 JP in thief.
I got this game so cheaply for the PSP new ($5) and its awesome! I feel overpowered though. I'm at this point of the game and my Ramza is level 12 and everyone else is level 8 and up. Should I tone it down with grinding?

Looks like he was using the Diamond Sword
DrGooz305 6 months ago
@DrGooz305 Thats my thoughts as well, its not the rune blade and its not the ancient sword for sure. Rune blade looks like a normal sword and the ancient sword is way to skinny for that model. I would put my money on diamond sword.

Seriously that scene is ten kinds of pointless. For all this game does right, there's a lot that it does wrong too.
theauthorman123 6 months ago
@theauthorman123 Though now that I think of it, it was prolly there for character development. Specifically to set up Ramza and Delita's friendship a bit more thoroughly.

alligator moment quote i would never think you would say that here.

I've finally started my own play through, though I did my zodiacs a bit different.
I hope I'm not the only person who makes sure Algus is dead before any battle ends and keeps him on the basic equipment so he always dies.
Glad to see what you're doing with Ramza and the archer now, cause I've been sitting on a fair bit of JP with the archer haha.

Blondies are noblemen back then. Guess that's why they turned out they way they did in today's society
lecmg 6 months ago
yay birthday update
FFKHD 6 months ago
Well, Algus is a noble so of course he would be rude and jerkish. Ramza is one of the few who are not like that.

XD Nice comment there :P

I went to a farm recently and I was taught how to play a reed flute. Like a character later in the game, I couldn't do it at all... It was funny to think of that while I tried.
I wouldn't really call it a big-lipped alligator moment. It does get mentioned at least one time later. I felt like it had a point.

@HCBailly Buildings in video games are always bigger inside than they are outside.
JohnDCrafton 6 months ago
HCBailly, You said earlier that you disliked using monsters in your party and I was curious as to why that is. I know the major drawback is that they can only attack unless they have another ability, which means that their unable to cast spells or use items and what not; but I've found that most of the monsters, like the Red Chocobo and such, often hit for very high amounts once you max out their Brave and will also Counter most melee attacks too because of the high Brave stat.
EvolSyrup 6 months ago
@EvolSyrup Personally, I like using Behemoths (all 3 types) and Tiamats along with a character that has Monster Skill ability.
ElfSponge 6 months ago
@ElfSponge I see your fond of what I like to call the "Power house" monsters :3 I prefer using a Red Chocobo and a Vampire (the purple panther). Both are hitting for about 500-600 hp at max lvl/Brave, which is a good chunk of the majority of the enemies you'll fight even at that lvl with the exception of said Behemoths and Tiamats.

God, Algus is such a dickweed.

7thlittleleopard 6 months ago
For all that Algus is a class-A asshat, he probably does consider Ramza a friend. He did drop the hint as where to find Teta, afterall...
7thlittleleopard 6 months ago
Thanks for suggesting Radiant Historia Hcbailly. I just got the game and I'm looking forward to your lp
mhall47685 6 months ago
@agranosclem basically every time your unit gains JP, the other active units in battle recieve a few JP in that job class. So if Ramza attacked as a knight, the other units in the battle get a few JP for the knight job class.
@HCBailly loving the LP but just a question, will you be deequiping a certain party member before a certain battle in chapter 2? (I know who it is, but i'm not going to spoil it for those that don't).

I'm still not sure how JP Spillover works X_x
agranosclem 6 months ago
oh sorry, I thought you ment the JP glitch >_>
The spillover: If you have a Knight and Wizard and the Knight gains JP, maybe 1 or 2 of those JP get spillover to your other party members in the battle. Not that hard right?
OnePieceFollower 6 months ago
@agranosclem For every 4 JP you earn in a job class, 1 JP spills over to everyone else in your party, assuming that they have unlocked that job class already. Gained JP Up does not boost the spillover JP, so it's more like for every 6 JP you earn, 1 JP spills over.
HCBailly 6 months ago
@HCBailly I don't know about the PSX version, but in the PSP version you don't have to unlock the job for a characters first. Yesterday, I had 4 Thieves and my Ramza was a Knight and he hadn't unlock Thief yet. But when he did unlock it he had 2000 JP in thief.
