  • Beautiful song !

  • yes, this song was written by him and him alone, it was sung by just about everyone else, but HE WROTE THIS SONG!!!!

  • This video sucks, . it is not the quality of the video, it is the performance. I only like a few of his songs. Back to the island, and lady blue.

  • @radiowwww Then why bother going on videos that you don't like and leaving negative comments? With the millions of videos available, I'm sure you can find something you like.

  • He gets better with age. Love that raspy voice. MMM

  • I saw him when he was young, in the 70's I think, back when he would come on stage with Joe Cocker, he was awesome and so handsome back then! They performed at the Great Western Forum in Los Angeles, I don't even think it's called that now.

  • I saw him perform last night. He and his band provided a great show!

  • And that album is a must own.....

  • I saw Leon in Dallas at Market Hall for New Years, in the 70's....Wow,,,what a show,,good memories. He sounds just as good now as he did then. Thank you for this video.

  • He and and Oak Ridge Boy William Lee Golden could be twin brothers

  • Yes Leon wrote that song and dozens of other stars recorded it. Rock on Leon!

  • Leon Russell DID write this song Zitzerman

  • One of the few clips where you can see his eyes....love those eyes................!

  • thats a lotta hair, what do you feed that thing?

  • "A Song for You" 1970 song written and originally performed by ((((Leon Russell)))) Also... Leon is such an IMPORTANT part of MUSIC HISTORY.

Thank You sOOOoo Much... for being in my life time.

  • this song is amazing, i see why so many have recorded it. but leon is the only version that makes me cry every time i hear him sing it. ...seems like he's singing it in a lower key here...

  • @Cesinhaaaaa Rock and Roll with a touch of Country and the Blues rolling over it

  • This is my favorite Leon song. Not written by him incidentally. I've seen him twice. Last night and in 1970! A forty year gap and the guy still rocks. Nothing much has changed except his hair and beard are longer. Check my two short clips posted this morning under my YouTube name Zitzerman.

  • @zitzerman Yes he did write it!

  • @randy8297 i've seen him twice and on the last time met him and his lovely wife

  • @randy8297 You are right. A Song For You was written by Leon Russell

  • @zitzerman I met Leon 40 years ago outside the Filmore in San Francisco. He just put togeather the Mad Dogs and Englishmen Band for Joe Cocker. It was an allstar band loaded with talent. I was blessed 40 years later and got to attended the Daytona Beach Fl. show wiith Leon and Elton John as a guest backstage. I again met Leon. He's a little older and still "The Master of Space and Time". "A Song For You" is one of the few songs that can still make me weep. Thank you Elton John your an Angel.

  • He wrote it, among many others like SUPERSTAR.

  • @zitzerman ,you are wrong, this song was penned and originally performed by Leon Russell,an covered by close to fifty other musicians. get your facts right .incidentally!

  • the music's great.......does it really matter if the "facts" are a little skewed?

  • Comment removed

  • As long as greats like Leon Russell, and 3 dog night are not in the HOF and shit like madonna is the hof has no legitimacy!

  • Holy crap, we are all getting to be so old! I wonder if my kids will view this performance the way I used to view my parents' watching Lawrence Welk.

  • haha...the ultimate unhip American program was the Lawrence Welk Show.

  • Wow, I loved Lawrence Welk and watching it with my grandparents. My 16 year old daughter and I still watch Lawrence every Saturday night. She even tells her boyfriend she can't see him because Lawrence is coming on.

  • Hey, don't let those punks keep you from enjoying this great music. Leon=Dizzy Gillespie, perhaps. Lawrence Welk? Nah.

  • I'm 23 and I love leon russel.

  • Hey, take a look at Leon himself at age 23! Search Youtube for "Leon Russell Jambalaya" and Leon "Russell Roll Over Beethoven".

  • I just saw Leon Russell at Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta...what a legend! I first saw him in 1972. He puts on a great show!

  • Really sad and sorry that this man is not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame...

Their "HALL" won't be legitimate untill...

He should have been one of the first selected.

I saw him first in 1970...and he is still the greatest...

Of coarse I am from OKLAHOMA too !!!

So It may be a little home pride !!!

    Buddy Rogers, Weillerbach, Germany

  • I will be seeing him on the 30th at Smith's Ole Bar in Atlanta. He's using a cane because he has MS. So do I. I never imagined I would have this disease when I first saw Master Russell in the '70s. I doubt he did either. peace&love, catsand

  • Saw him 12 years ago in Miami Beach, hope to see him many more times...A living legend who still rocks, and deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The fact that he isnt, is a tragedy. Needs to be made right.

  • I met leon he was so sweet

  • Saw him in Richmond,VA in 1972 and am taking my youngest son to see him tomorrow night in VA

    Beach. I can't wait.

He was hot in the 70s. We all were.

  • I had the honor to meet leon

  • It's a digital piano called an Alesis QS8

and it sounds like it has the Jazz piano Qcard installed.

  • What kind of piano is he playing here, or is it only stripped, No, sounds weird? ANYONE?

  • i met him hung out with him

  • You seem to want some real pats on the back because of this.

  • My dad loves Leon and so do I. Dad saw him in concert in Chattanooga in the early 70's and again in Destin a couple of summers ago. we are now planning a road trip to see him together late this summer.

    peace john

  • I can't help but worry about his health - he looks like he is now about 300 lbs. He used to be so slim in his "Jumpin' Jack Flash" - Concert for Bangladesh days.

  • Does anyone have anything from Carny? I love that era and would love to see him playing a track off that album.

  • this is what I hope somebody plays at my funeral...Love Leon...P.

  • Leon transports you to another space and time every time

  • I saw Leon singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" in concert. Nothing else compares! I wish he would do songs from the Wedding Album in concert.

  • I've seen Leon three times & each time he performed "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". You are absolutely correct - Nothing Compares and much to my disappointment, I have not found this recording or video anywhere. If anyone has Leon's rendition, please post a video!

  • Leon's version of "Over the Rainbow" appears on a DVD "Leon Russell and the New Grass Revival Live and Pickling Fast".

  • Also, there's a slower version on Leon's CD "A Song for You". This is the one that he sings in concert.

  • You can get this song on iTunes. Just type in "Over the Rainbow". There are two of Leon's renditions.

  • amazing what else can I say...

  • I have seen Leon 3 times, going back to 1974. No one is like him. He owns the audience. I guess he is the coolest SOB in music. He LAYS them in the aisles, that is for sure.

  • Never get tired of hearing this tune. A classic.

  • No matter how many times I hear or see Leon perform this song,It is always like the first time! Space and time with Leon and my Lifer's have made the journey sweeter!

  • hes the best

  • What an awesome video. I was at this concert and it is soooo neat to see a video from it. Thank you so much for taking it and for posting it. Do you have other videos from this concert??
