  • um guys ernies my nick name O.o ???

  • cute

  • get down ernie u bad mutha........

  • so it is a fischers lovebird but how do u get it stay without flying thats coooool

  • wat bird is dis it looks like a toy can any1 plss tell me wer to get it !!

  • i have the same kind of bird called sherbet and another ( peach faced) called fizz and now they have just had 3 newly born chicks <<3

  • well today he went on my hand and on my shoulder, and it's only been three days since I've had him--do you think tat's a promising start?

  • yes I think it's a promising start :) Your bird seems to trust you. But you must spend as much time as you can with it, esp. when it's a baby, the more time you spend with it, the more it will become to know you and you get to know your bird. All the best mate ;)

  • Was Ernie hand-fed?

cuz i just recently bought a parent-fed bird but i'm not sure if it'll grow up to be tame...

oh and do fischer birds like to be cuddled?

cuz i always thought that lovebirds liked being cuddled but apparently not (according to a site i read)

  • yes, he was hand-fed. The chances of a parent-fed bird to become tame to humans is quite rare so I won't say impossible. I recon most birds don't like to be cuddled... you'd be more able to cuddle a dog or cat than a bird.

But if a lovebird trusts you heaps I'm sure it will let you scratch it around the head, kiss it's beak and also it will hide in your clothes/hands/bed sheets/towels

  • how do you know he's male?

  • He does the 'lambada' when he's excited

  • LoL, thanks...but, what if you are looking for a male to buy... how can one be sure of getting a male at the petstore? What should I look for?

  • We didn't know if we were getting a male or female and most pet shops don't esp. if the bird is still very young. I have noticed that male birds tend to talk and imitate noises/songs more interesting than females, but this comes with maturity i.e. birds which are weeks old won't be singing interesting sounds, they usually just chirp.

  • Buying a bird from a breeder is usually cheaper than from a pet shop. However I got ripped off buying a bird from a breeder. If you buy from a breeder make sure you do your research about the 'so called' breeder before buying from them. I'm not 'downing' breeders, I just had a bad experience and have learnt from it.

Now I stick to a local pet shop and refer to pay a little extra because I trust the quality of tame baby birds they sell.

  • Are you going to eventually get a 'wife' for Ernie?

  • I don't know. I will let fate take it's course. Until then Ernie's my little munchkin ;)

  • Beats having a cat I suppose.

  • Maybe... i wouldn't know. lol! Unless I get one of those 'furrless' cats in future :)

  • Ugh, weird looking things, and cats persay are just a no no AFAIAC. Best pet to have with 4 legs is a tortoise, their clean, don't make any noise and sleep for half the year. :-)

  • lol, I'm going to get a little turtle next!... am wanting to put it into my frog tank, but I'm still researching about it and a turtle hasn't come to offer yet... i'm on the waiting list. Do you have a turtle?

  • I don't have any pets per say. Never have been a pet person, if I was going to get one it'd be a tortoise for the reason above. IF you do get a turtle, make sure you don't get a baby snapper turtle, as they grow BIG and are just mean by nature.

  • ok, hence the name lol. Thanks for the tip.

  • I've watched numerous videos of lovebirds and I have to say that Ernie is my favorite. I love the way he sticks to you guys like glue. Other lovebirds are almost indifferent to their owners and running all over the place, whereas Ernie seems to be more mellow.

I am curious if Ernie produces feather dust and/or dander? We are looking to get a lovebird and, my daughter and I have allergies to cats and dogs.

  • We spend a lot of time with Ernie. If we are home his cage is always open so he can fly around as he pleases, though there are many cautions to take i.e. have a 'bird proof home' if you know what i mean.

Yes about once a year, usually when he's feathering alot of little feathers go all over the place and a bit of white flake. Coinncidently I am also allergic to cats & dogs... more cats though and I have no problems with birds though.

  • Yeh, when he's excited he bops his head...He's 2.5 years old.

  • Ernie seems to be bobbing to music in the background

  • What a nice lovebird!

    How old is he?
