  • I love every tes game up to Morrowind. Morrowind was my favorite, after that everything is a stale feeling.

  • The reason the towns/cities are so random is because everything is randomly spawned when you start the game. For instance those 3 inns probably don't exist on one of your other player's saves.

  • kind of reminds me of minecraft.

  • you know you could just right click the door on the shops and that and you should mark them auto i belive

  • What lets Arena down is having no mouse look. That more than anything highlights its age.

  • Is it me or do the lizardmen make the same sound as the door guard in castle Daggerfall in TESII:Daggerfall?

  • Great vids :) or you can turn the difficulty all the way up in oblivion. That's what I do.

  • Oblivion's still too easy even when you do that.

  • People are conservative about this game.. okay I admit this game is fun and older games can be better but why are you sticking on the older ones whats wrong with oblivion? Ofcourse you had your hopes high because games today can be a big disappointment but still Oblivion or morrowind are pretty good. Nothing has changed in a wrong way it is just better. It is almost the same only the ''façade'' has changed. And from what I see this is more of a hack-and-slash than Oblivion and less lore.

  • This is an old-school dungeon-crawler. Oblivion's an action game with some broken RPG elements. There's a pretty huge difference in mentality. If it's only gotten better, then explain to me why Oblivion is an extremely boring game. Explain how I have no sense of satisfaction upon exploring things, which I had in EVERY previous TES game. Explain why I'm able to go through the entire game without leveling up at all, and have absolutely no difficulty doing so.

  • @DWTerminator scaling the enemies and quest rewards to your level killed alot of Oblivions fun because NPCS didn't scale forcing you to do the main quest at low lvls, otherwise forget escort missions, and thus have epi items of sucky stats. I still liked it but the scaling idea sucked hard.

  • @DWTerminator Oblivion was easy but i still found it fun

  • @doomstar1231 it was fun for me only because it was the first elder scrolls game i played, it got boring very very quickly... the only way to make it enjoyable was to mod the crap out of it with monster overhauls and exp mods.

  • It's weird how the rats are in every The Elder Scolls game. I mean they're kind huge, when I first saw them I thought this was something like science fiction :D

  • And I definitely don't want The Elder Scrolls ever becoming an online game. I don't want what happened to CoD to happen to The Elder Scrolls too. What with all of the annoying 12 year olds.

  • I'm pretty sure Elder Scrolls only appeals to younger people right now anyway. I'm getting really sick of their "ooo look at the pretty graphics and ignore the broken/mindless gameplay mechanics" approach.

  • @DWTerminator

If Morrowind and Oblivion only appeal to kids, then why do we have so many polished and complex mods for them?

  • @MindinViolet hey kids can make mods too, im 14 and i have made a few spell and dungeon mods for oblivion, and a battlemage castle

  • Anybody who complains about the graphics are idiots. You're just too young to truly appreciate an old game like this. Back when we were kids/teens these graphics were kick ass. And this game is what oblivion/skyrim is today but back then. And when I was really young we had games that consisted of nothing but moving squares without any color.

  • I've been gaming since '93 (on Atari 2600, no less) and l can easily say the graphics in Arena are hard to look at. The color scheme is odd and everything's so pixellated that it makes things difficult to see. Take, for instance, the spiders, which are almost the exact same color as the floors when you first fight them. It's not to the point where the game's unplayable or anything, but it's just hard on the eyes.

  • @JBergen1104

Fancy graphics aren't particularly important, but visual design is. Games are about 80-90% visuals and 10-20% sound, so what you're looking at matters. In a role-playing game particularly, interesting places and things to discover, and gameplay presentation mean the difference between an endearing, fascinating world, and a bland, boring one.

  • why would someone still want to download this, they got oblivion best game ever atm and skyrim comeing out probley next best game in world, only thing could make them better online pvp and questin togeither

  • its come from arena now to skyrim, pretty amazing really.

  • Yep. It's gone from being an open-world RPG to an open-world hack n' slash. Amazing. -_-

  • THERE ARE ENEMIES NEARBY

    "Probably just some rats again..."

    Three Liches appear.

  • I tried to install Arena on my laptop but It keeps saying "can only install from floppy disk", what should I do?

  • Which version are you trying to install?

  • @DWTerminator thanks for this LP cause I can't stand to play games like this, its graphics are too bad to play :p

  • They're not *that* bad. I consider them "bad" when they give you a headache and/or you can't tell what stuff is at all. Arena doesn't fall into either category.

    And you're welcome, anyway.

  • lol Knights are good with swords and "blunts" knights be getting high up in this game.

  • *facepalm*

Not that kind of blunt. XD

  • @DWTerminator I know just thought it was one of those unexpected play on words type of funny.

  • Well... Skooma wasn't incorporated in the series until Morrowind, so your play on words doesn't even make sense in the context of the game. ; )

But yeah, I get the "spontaneously amusing" part.

  • I am enjoying your LP. I know you don't finish it, and that you don't like the game, but I appreciate it. Just a tip that I read: apparently, enemies won't interrupt you while you sleep if you camp on a raised platform. Some glitch with the game. I noticed you kept getting your sleep-healing interrupted.

  • I keep getting it interrupted, yes, and most of the time I'm actually trying to sleep on the raised platforms. It just seems the game is against me.

As for "not finishing it," it's a long game. It takes a long time to film it and an even longer time to edit. Not to mention there's not much time I can devote to an LP without being interrupted. But I promise this: *eventually* I'll finish this LP. It may take a few years (hopefully not), but I'll do it.

  • It is kinda funny at the beginning of video, epsecially when you try to heal...

  • Yeah well, I suck at Arena.

  • No you are not, you play it quite good

I just say it is fun watching you play it and giving those funny comments :D

  • Nah. If I were good at TES:A, then I'd be annihilating stuff fairly easily. No matter, I play it the way I play it.

Glad you're amused by my random silliness.

  • Knights are good with blunts, huh?

  • Generally, yes.

  • Did you try right-clicking on the door? It should give you the name.

  • The name of what?

  • It should give you the name of the location, and put it on your map, so you don't have to ask people that are near by.

  • Oh, never knew about that. I'll check it out later on.

  • Ok. It also looks like you had some trouble trying to get rest in stone keep. I think you already know this, but you can sleep on almost any raised surface without getting attacked. There's only one circumstance where I found that this did not work, which was only one of the niches in the imperial dungeon {That's probably spelled incorrectly}.

  • Actually it's never worked for me in Stonekeep. Half the time there are enemies nearby, and the other half, the enemies can still attack me on the platforms. So far it's only worked in the Imperial Dungeon. :S

  • Which provonces can you go to in this one?

  • Everywhere but the Imperial Province from my experience.

  • God dammit, i really wanted to see Cyrodiil/Reman Cyrodiil in dos... in later episodes can you visit Vvardenfell? See how accurate Morrowind was.

  • Might be able to. We'll see.

  • TRY Cyrodiil as well.

  • I have before. It doesn't let you go there.

  • Why not? What does it say?

  • I dunno why. It just won't do anything when you click on it.

  • Crap.

  • Yep.

  • wake = walk*

  • Heya DW. Great Videos, I love them.

I have a question though. Is it just me, or does the game emulate really fast? It looks like the towns people all wake really fast and even the animations are really fast like the beggar sticking his hand out begging, or a juggler juggling. Are you suppose to slow down the game? Or is that the way its suppose to be? Thanks DW.

  • Actually, I'm running it that fast because if I don't, it's unplayable. The game's one of those weird titles that only works right at a certain speed.

  • hey,i have extracted it in c: but what do i do to play it now?i tried with and without dosbox but nothing.

  • Odd... it *should* work in DOSBox. I've got a basic DOSBox tutorial on my channel if you need that.

  • do i save winrar or run it?

  • Install it.

  • i found it but i dont hav winzip or winrar

  • Google Winrar. It's free to use but after a certain number of days it'll say your trial has expired and keep prompting you to buy the program (it'll still work, you just get that message every time you start the program).

  • wat game is this?

  • ...

    The Elder Scrolls - Arena.

  • um where can i get this or elder scrolls daggerfall?

  • Elder Scrolls official website. You can get both Daggerfall and Arena there for free.

  • i couldnt find it

  • I find pumping agility early on helps a lot. I was at level 7 with 100 Agility on my Redguard. That's +10 accuracy and evasion. The disadvantage on the other hand is that 100 is the max for an attribute, meaning +Agility equips did nothing for me :/ Lots of other stats to pump though. The only other vital stat imo is Endurance, because +End gained from gear doesn't seem to increase HP. Nice vid 10/10

  • Strength is also good to have for carrying loot and damage modifiers. Glad you like the video.

  • graphics look like ps1 XD good old times

  • This is vintage 1994 PC graphics... good times. Good times. PS1 wasn't out 'till later... after Quake was released in '96.

  • 200th sub.

  • So you are. Can't do anything about uploading videos at this particular moment though (on vacation).

  • i love this game, i played it at least 200 hours ;-) still not through yet... i think i might play it again sometime :-) thanks for posting this

  • Yeah, I used to play Daggerfall a lot myself. Got turned down by the unedible dungeon maps though and the fact that the first dungeon is so hard you cannot play a non-fighting character.

  • Glad you like it.

  • Haha, need to figure out how to use DOS Box so I can play this lol

  • There's a short DOSBox tutorial on my channel. Should tell you what you need to know.
