great video! has anyone tried this on reason propellerheads (it doesn't support midi out)? I'm thinking of taking the audio signal of the metronome and convert it into midi signal to synch my hardware synths. Any experience please?
Genius! Thank you so much for this video!!! I've been wondering how to sync drum machines with the BPM of audio loops from a loop pedal or from record players, and you solved my problem! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
Can you use the soundbite with a DAW, say ableton live and the ESX. Live's a bit of a dog when it comes to syncing so I'm looking for something to control it all
Thanks for the Video groovindj ,i have the KORG KP3 and got it too sync my Electribe MX and roland sp 555 in which all worked fine synching them to my decks ...nice one dude !!
Just one question , you said The Red Sound unit is much more accurate than the KP3 which version is your KP3 as mine was v3 when i got it .
What happens when you try to beat match your 2nd deck/cdj? Will your drum machine start to sync to the bpm of you trying to beat match since you will be using your headphones to listen to the 2nd deck?
I tried to sync my kp2 with my esx... and it doesn't work. The kp2 has a bpm counter and a midi ext... So Is it working only with a kp3? Or I miss something?? Thanks!!
Does the soundbite micro follow tempo changes well? I tried syncing music from my mixer through my KP3, to a zoom drum machine. Did not work. I was able to sync the KP3 drum section directly to my zoom drum machine, and it did follow tempo changes pretty well, but why couldn't I sync audio to my drum machine through the KP3? I was impressed how the ESX kept on tempo with the track in the video. Should I just buy the SB micro? could I expect the same results as you? Thanks, and great video!
Great video! How well would you say that this unit syncs overall and with different songs? I had a go with the Pioneer DJM-800 midi sync function and it made my tr-707 drift out of time within only a few bars.. and it was the same with whatever cd I tried to sync to.
What do you think would be my best option for looping what i'm playing on guitar to sync with an Electribe. I would like to be able to control my electribe and also play my guitar live.
Thank you, only one question, I heard that the kaosspads are making the audio signal bad. Is that right, does your kaosspad make the original audio signal worse?
What about having 2 of them ? One for syncing and the other for looping. I can't find any cheap loopers that could sync my old analog gear and my new midi gear ?
Can you use both features on the sound bites micro : Syncing and sampling. Let say first you sync and send midi info to your midi harware or soft and then you swith the sound bite to looper mode to have fun (and always in sync with your midi harware ??? Is this possible or you have to chose either one or the other option (as I understand there is a switch to choose).
Then my thoughts would be. Is it usefull to have 2 soundbite micro then (one for midi sync and one for looping). thx.
they havent really looked at it that much. the RC-50 has problems with syncing with each other (if two RC-50s are running at the same time). but its always "we're working on it" and I believe them and don't blame them for it cos the problem is not consistent. sometimes its there and sometimes its not.
i have a question ragerding using this setup with ableton on a lap top.
.. the lead midi leads u get with the micro. are small usb for the micro end an midi 5 pin for the pc end. but my laptop only uses usb in for midi not the pin, ( and the micro maual says only to use their supplied cable) but do u think i can jus use a small usb then a normal usb to go to the lappy or is their another way to connect it??? thanks
thanks for the advice been rackin my brains try in to work out out to sync it. i had the micro for ages but ended up just using it as a sampler. cheers mate
thanks for posting these videos, i found them very usefull. I have some questions.
The soundbite micro would be able to keep the sync for a lot of time, if i pitch up or down, the midi clock will stick to the music beat? how accurate could be mixing latin music, or old rock music that was played withoud a click and doesn't have a constant beat
It doesn't need a 100% steady beat, because it tracks in real time, so any variations in tempo would be picked up and sent to the MIDI device. Final accuracy depends on the other device(s) in the chain.
Is that the Boss pedal? Yeah, I guess that would work in the same way. The SoundBite would need to 'hear' the sound of the loops from the pedal, then it would generate MIDI clock for the sampler. The accuracy would depend on the clock rate of the sampler.
Dude thats cool and all but to much work to sync with the electribe, I have one it has the same feature you speak of that the kaoss pad detects the audio's bpm, theres really no need for the red sound mirco, you set the audio thru and press the auto bpm scan and it will detect it fairly well and if not, just tap the beat out on the electribe.
I picked up the Soundbite and have succesfully Synced my external audio to Ableton Live(as an external sync) enabaling me to sync my CDJ to Ableton and my VSTi's
Ill put a video up shortly of using the SoundBite Micro to Sync to Software as an External Clock
but THANKS AGAIN for showing this video it helped me out incredibly
I would've liked if you'd altered the tempo during playing. How fast does it pick up tempo changes?
Ni5ei 3 months ago
I thought the Korg instrument automatically picks up the tempo of an outside source? Mine does.

@Olva1994 yes, some DJ software will send a MIDI clock output when a song is played.

@tomfurstyfield You could use it with Live, but the flaw is with Live's external sync, so I don't think it would help.
Ableton have yet to fix the problem.

This device is very good at following the tempo, but can also be pushed or pulled manually if it does drift off.
groovindj 2 years ago
Yes... very interesting..... but how do you connect your headphone for the pre-listening?
Ravenn88 2 years ago
You can use a splitter lead or if your mixer has aux sends, use those to send audio to the sync device.

The ideal way is to use a mixer with aux sends, which can feed the SoundBite separately.

Not that I've noticed. I guess it depends on the quality of your speakers - you might hear something if your system is good enough.

ok thanks for the quick answer :D I am not sure if I should grant the kp3 for christmas

i use ableton live with uc 33...i want to play with my friends he use traktor scratch..can i do that whit a soundbite micro?

Btw : thx for the quick feedback.
theau61 3 years ago
I would suggest looking elsewhere for a looping/sampling device. The Micro is very basic compared to the Kaoss Pad 3 for example.
You won't get one device that does it all.
groovindj 3 years ago

theau61 3 years ago
You are correct. There is a 'mode' switch which changes between MIDI and loop mode.
This device would not be my first choice for looping, It's better at syncing than looping!

I try to do videos that no one else has done before.

PSI236 3 years ago
wait one question, how would I use this when the RC-50 hates being the slave in the MIDI chain? can the soundbyte do anything in this situation?
jinithith2 3 years ago
Sounds like an issue with the RC-50. What do Roland have to say about it?
groovindj 3 years ago

djsquidge69 3 years ago
A standard MIDI connection is 5 pin PIN, which is why the Micro has those. It's so it can connect straight to drum machines, samplers, synths etc.
You need a MIDI interface for your PC. You can get something which is just a cable or you can get an external box.
I use one called a Mistar MIDIlink.

Maxsdiscos 4 years ago
There are many uses. Many DJs now use Ableton in a live set and need to keep their computer in sync with the audio from their mix.
groovindj 4 years ago
You have a lot of gear, I guess you're a professional producer?
About the syncing, too bad it just sends the BPM, and no kind of beat pulse, so you can change tempo on the fly. but cool anyway, some extra drums :)
