I disagree. I think he makes very strong points about our imperialism. We have a military presence in 2/3 of the world, and we are simply trying to get everyone to do what we want. Imagine if another country was doing that to us? Our actions obviously cause discontent, and I am speaking as a Republican. I must admit we were wrong, Ron was right. As for CIA and FBI, I haven't given it much thought. It is a radical idea, but it may be correct. We have to scale back all government.
While I agree we shouldn't really have a military presence where we're NOT FIGHTING (like Europe), it's erroneous to assume that we should pull out of the Middle East and abandon Israel to its enemies. Ron is dead wrong to say otherwise.
I too think that it is inherently obvious we should not have military presence where we are not fighting. But I still do not think we should be in the Middle East. What is the end game here? Also, the US gives more money to enemies of Israel than Israel itself! We are funding both sides. You must agree this is crazy. If our government is inefficient at home, why would it be any better abroad? Ron Paul is right in that US military presence in the middle east infuriates many arabs.
With that said, of course I am not justifying terrorism. But it is foolish of us to think that they hate us because we are western. For example, there was never a single incident of suicide bombings in Iraq until 2003 after the US invaded. They hate us because we try to make THEM western, and they just dont want that. What authority does our government have to dictate how other nations should be ruled? I don't think our occupation of the middle east is making us much safer at all.

Are you referring to the Barbary wars? Because to attribute that to Islam is ridiculous. They were pirates, and couldn't care less what religion you were. The pirates and Europe had a tribute based system worked out that interfered with US desires for free trade. So we acted defensively to protect our trade vessels. It was about trade, not religion. Its easy to attribute everything to Islam, but that is so simple minded. And US involvement in the middle east also began in the 1940s. :)

I'm from Canada. When I was in high school I considered going on a shooting spree multiple times. What stopped me? I didn't have access to a gun and I had TIME TO RECONSIDER because of my lack of access. If there was a gun in my house then I might have gone through with it.

The prime motivation behind the nationalists was colonialism, hence why they were called nationalists. Qutb's writings about the US began in the late 1940s. His earlier works had to do with marriage and other social issues. My LMAO was in response to your claim I did not ask you a question when I did. The fact is most Muslims are not trying to kill us. Sayyid’s father had Nationalists meetings in his home and spoke about the moral corruption of the British and American people, we were not bombing them nor were we trying to colonize them. Their hatred for us preceded any military action the United States government took against anyone in the region. The books I read by Qutb were calling for the expansion of Sharia law and death for those who oppose it. It had nothing to do with us bombing towns.

Speaking of moral corruption is not the same as hatred and bombing. Christians in the US including myself often complain about the lack of morals our society has developed. Full independence of Egypt from Britain was not achieved until 1936, and France also had colonial ties there. Radical Islam was in response to the actions of western powers colonizing Africa and the hatred of the Christian world toward Muslims. I'm from Canada. When I was in high school I considered going on a shooting spree multiple times. What stopped me? I didn't have access to a gun and I had TIME TO RECONSIDER because of my lack of access. If there was a gun in my house then I might have gone through with it.
