  • Seems like there would be massive reserve power.

  • pretty plane though

  • WHO CARRES WHAT KLM IS AND IS NOT REPLACING!!!!JUST WATCH THE VIDEO.GOSH!

  • The MD11 is a rocket! It is the best plane to climb

  • Nice photography job.

  • great video

  • old school aircraft..!!

  • 1:15 : ruined my imagination

  • We dutch are proud to see our national carrier still flies a fine airplane that was born in the Douglas factories. KLM is the only airline in the world still existing under the same name and flew all DC-aircraft in the series, starting with the DC-2. Check the Uiverfan website.

  • Martinair stills using MD 11 too.

  • is it me or KLM is one of the only european airlines to use MDs ?

  • @shittywilly KLM is pretty much the only commercial airline in the world still using the passenger version of the MD-11.

  • @YULspotter

that explains why trijets are such a rare sight today.

I almost feel sorry that turbofans are so reliable at the moment that a third engine is not required xD

  • @YULspotter

there are a couple of other passenger versions for Dragonair, Finnair, Tam and Varig...

  • @superfestiva I believe Dragonair operated the L1011 and not the MD-11. Finnair does still have 2 MD-11's in their fleet but I'm not sure if they are still regularly using them. Tam retired their MD-11's and Varig went bankrupt a number of years ago. Varig's cargo division is still operating and they are using the freighter version of the MD-11.

  • @YULspotter Finnair retired them, KLM is the only now! :D Dutch Proud :P

  • @YULspotter Yes you are right with finnair, but the MD-11's are still in regalur use,but have been converted to freighters :D

  • @superfestiva KLM is the last MD-11 passenger operator!

  • @TheJeffreyklm

No it is not...I have seen an european airline colored in orange (lol, don't know the name) MD-11 take off twice a week from BOG to the north...

    It is such a BEAUTY...

  • @superfestiva The only European MD11s I find on Flightaware that fly out of SKBO (BOG) are from Martinair and Lufthansa Cargo. Is it perhaps a red stripe running from nose to tail?

  • @YULspotter klm is replacing the ancient md-11 with the airbus-a330-200ER. i had the pleasure of being on the md-11 to vancouver in june 2011. nut by the end of this year all md -11 will be out of the klm fleet

  • @amsterdamsuri Not really. They are replacing the MD-11 with the 787. 787 FTW!!!

  • @FSXtremeVideos

But the MD-11 is my absolute favorite :(

It's been my lifeline with my family in the U.S. for years and I've grown to love it.

  • @MrBlankBarcode i love the MD-11 alot to. Beautiful plane. I have experienced many landing from the cockpit with KLM and enjoyed it a lot. The problem is that it has a whole bunch of problems. Everytime I travel with KLM in a MD-11 there is a delay because the APU is not working for example. That is why they are getting rid of them. I will never forget the MD-11!

  • most of the issues have been resolved ever since Boeing acquired the MD brand.

  • I currently fly the MD-11 after years of flying B747 and a number of other fine aircraft; I can truly say it is one of the finest commands I have ever enjoyed. It should have done better commercially but initial tech obstacles stymied sales at the start. After the issues were resolved the B777 was already stealing the intended market. Anyway, it is an aircraft well worth admiring. Glad to see this post, cheers y'all.....

  • The MD-11 is a great plane. The pinnacle of aviation engineering. It has been all downhill since Boeing shut down the line.

  • im gonna to miss those planes when they gonna to replace them in 2014

  • @patko1610 man, the md 11 has a very bad safety record, some refer to it as a "flying carpet", very difficult to control under crosswind. Some specialists say that the vertical stabilizer is too short. Is very extrange that in most of the accidents it always end belly up. Ive flown on many types of aircrafts: 727 (maybe the most secure aircraft in the world), 737, 747,757, 777, a320,330,340, lockheed l100, antonov an 24, saab, lears....and the mighty md 11. Bad flights only on 737 and md 11

  • @samuraifugitivo And you are a fool

  • I love the sound.

  • isnt this just a DC-11?

  • @flashing101 I guess you could call it that. DC-10's which have been upgraded with systems and avionics similar to the MD-11 are called MD-10's.

  • @YULspotter no im pretty sure that this is just a straight up md-11..... cuz thats what klm operates

  • @YULspotter Letting people get away with wierd names isn't ever that good. Otherwise theyre going to call things anything and never learn. 3 engined Quontuss Boeing B380 Superjumbos not withstanding.

  • md 11\s dont have flight engineers so youd have to see the flight deck to really be sure

  • @flashing101 It is an McDonnel-Douglas Aircraft, that means it is a "MD"

  • @flashing101 Another online idiot

  • At the end of the vid, it looks like it was heavy weather up there....

  • How many passengers are usually traveling on these flights (transatlantic with md11) i know it can hold somewhere about 280 passengers.

  • @zaphr89 There are 223 economy seats, 38 business class seats and 24 lie-flat seats for a total of 285 so you are very close.

  • @YULspotter Thanks, do you know if the plane is usually full or half full or anything like that on this route? (EHAM to CYUL i presume)

  • @zaphr89 The flights are usually pretty full.

  • I'll be flying on an MD-11 in september when I go to Toronto :) Quite excited about it. Never flown a McDonnell aircraft before.

  • Its a great plane! KLM has personal video in the new seats.Powerfull engines.

  • wow

  • I love the DC 10 and the MD 11, the most beautifull planes ever. Have travelled on these birds quitte a few times. Have flown with CP Air a few times too in the 80,s on a DC 10.

  • @19bud59 It would be nice if these planes were still in production along with improvements like the 747.

  • @jgstargazer, yes they should have continued to build these airplanes. A lot of people only remember the few crashes. But it was a great plane, and i would get on one again anyday. Also it has the best engine sound of all, love listening to these take off, and i like the steep angle when it climbs.

Love both the DC-10 and MD-11

  • whats the difference between the DC-10 and MD-11??

  • In appearance the MD-11 is longer and has winglets. There are other non-visual differences such as more powerful engines and updated avionics on the MD-11.

  • @YULspotter DC10 has larger horizontal stabilizers. MD11 No.2 Engine lnlet has a slight bulge. MD11 has a wedge tail cone.

  • @TheJohnnyboy23 YULspotter sayd all diffrences but only one diffrence he had not sayed the Systems are highly modern so it can compettete with boeing and airbus

  • @gaspeli Mcdonnell Douglas which made the MD11 merged with Boeing in 1997. All MD11 production was ended and was replaced with newer & more effecient Boeing designs. Since Boeing owned them it was unlikely Boeing would compete with itself.

  • i love klm

  • KLM! The Netherlands rulez :D

  • @DrPresidentX

    ruled by USA,hah

  • beautiful :')'

  • The DC-10 might have had issues, but the Md-11 is a very safe aircraft. The DC-10 is also a very safe cargo jet now along with the Md-11. The only real incident with the Md-11 was with Swissair Flight 111 where Swissair wrongly installed wiring catching the plane on fire. Most other Incidents have been Crew error and landing the airplane in non approved crosswinds. If KLM still uses them for passengers, believe me, they are safe.

  • @BusterBunker yes, they are safe. I supported KLM's MD11 and their airplanes are in great shape.

  • beautiful take-off and very nice aircraft in KLM colours. Has anyone ever flown with the MD-11? Is it very similar to the TriStar? I absolutely loved the Lockheed L-1011. I don't know about you guys but i can't stand the A380 has to be the ugliest passenger plane ever designed. My top 5 passenger aircraft are 1.L-1011 TriStar 2. Boeing 707 3. Boeing 747-300 and 400 Series. 4. Airbus A300 and A340. 5. Concorde( never flown on it but it had a nice look).

  • No MD-11????

  • will put it at number 6 then or number 5, but i have flown on all the others except the Concorde. Have yo been inside an MD-11?

  • no :( but it looks so cool!! ;)

  • @sakusia

very similar as in inside? well, they are both wide body and three-engined... but that is about all the similarities.

The tristar is also my favourite plane ever :-D although i never got in one, that I know... maybe when i was little.

  • I agree with sakusia. The A380 has got to be the ugliest passenger plane ever designed. I thought I were the only one who shared this view.

  • @sakusia i know both have 3 engines :p

yes i have once flown an MD-11 but never an L-1011 tristar, sorry m8

  • My favourite aircraft nice and roomy unlike the new ones.

  • Amazinngg aircraftt beutifull take off

  • Unique plane. :')

  • No, your a bitch, mantube.

  • I always wondered why they do not produce them anymore.

  • I rode the MD-11 (perhaps this plane shown?) from SFO to AMS, and it's a very smooth ride.

  • it is so so so cuteeee

  • 1 word - BEAUTIFUL!

  • I think this mid-top located third engines prooved arodynamically non-optimal (for the tail unit as well as it gives too much weight on the back part of the plane). Therefore thus is no longer in production...?

  • Emocionante....!!!!

  • I love the MD-11! if only they were still being made today :(

  • they still are really popular in the cargo industry

  • I had the chance to fly this great airplane!

One of the best I've flown. 5 stars!

  • It looks like a very humble plane :) i would love to fly one, one day.

  • MD-11 is a great aircraft :-)

  • @glennofohio Too bad they're getting old.

  • @glennofohio the pilots who have been killed because its design defects would differ with your assessment, if they could.

  • Amazing video 5*

  • This is my babyyyyyyyyy, a real joy to work on these girls..... Was that Anna Pavlova???

  • I'm not sure as I can't read the aircraft's registration number. I have seen Anna Pavlova at YUL a number of times however. Every MD-11 currently in KLM's fleet has been to YUL.

  • Is that Polderbaan? =)

  • this is not at schipol :D

  • Of course :DD I didnt read the description

  • what??? how many of pitch???

  • the reason i like the md-11 is its badass looken shape the 777 looks like a 737 but dont get me wrong there both grate planes just the sleek look of the md-11 is undiscribeable

  • i really love this plane ! it's a pitty that flights from lima to amsterdam are not anymore in MD11 but B777-200ER ! it's good plane too but i prefer MD11

  • why the would u want to be in an old md-11 instead of a brand new b777-200er

  • i like MD11 because it's very big and noisy , i also like the model of this aircraft

  • Just beautiful. I agree with the previous comment, when you keep filming the climbs, it's absolutely AWESOME. Here you see the plane gently turning right...as if nothing... Marvellous.

  • Beautiful colour contrast. Great video. I wish you'd film more of the climb in your other videos.

  • terliple take off

  • appears to be climbing straight into a storm cloud

  • simpsonstewie, I hope you're just kidding. Not funny.

  • Your videos are wonderful !!

  • Hey geterdonein01, you're right

  • lushh

    !! =]

  • awesome!

  • Yep. Though KLM and Finnair are about the only airlines left that regularly use the MD-11 for passenger flights. Most of the MD-11's are now carrying freight.

  • how old are these planes now?

  • KLM's MD-11's are about 14 years old.

  • I see they now use them instead of 747's on their flights to Delhi, think Ill go Emirates next time

    ;0

  • Airliners still fly this plane?

  • why are md11 being replaced? they r old but they still can fly!!!!! marketing

  • it's called lower fuel costs.. older planes are guzzlers compared to modern aircraft.

  • do you still get MD-11 at YUL or has she been replaced with 777 or A330

  • We are still getting the MD-11 at YUL. It will probably continue to be used for quite a while. When it is replaced, it will most likely be a 777-200 or a A330-300.

  • I personally think the MD-11/Dc-10 are better then the 777-200 and A330-300. i wonder if a new version on the MD-11/DC-10 will be built in the future, because they are a very beutiful aircraft.

  • It would be cool, but I doubt their will be any more long range trijets. Plus McDonnell Douglas was merged into Boeing.

  • i took the KLM md-11 soo nice and smooooth

  • MD-11 are great to watch. Too bad they are getting rare

  • md11 rocks!

  • what camera was used? great vid by the way.

  • It's a Sony Handycam model #DCR-DVD305.

  • thanks!

  • hey is this from 55th avenue or jerkins ave ??

    great video!

  • This video was taken from the parking lot at 55th avenue.

  • she is just stunning! Got to love the MD-11!!

  • klm is one of the best planes in the world so you will might take that plane if you do you are so lucky by

  • The old MD-11s, as old as they are, are still look pleasant to the eye.

  • Oh man thats beautiful.....great vid

  • Nice take off!!

  • HEY COOL.

    I WAS ON THAT FLIGHT.

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • whats takeoff in a trijet like compared to twin engine aircraft???? thats an awesome video by the way!!!:)

  • its pretty much the same. i flew on a Canadian airlines DC-10 way back when they were in service.

  • Awesome. I love the brake dust that kicks up just after the mains are retracted.
