The ultimate chicken tractor and healthy feeding evironments for chickens, cows, rabbits, and turkeys.... nice system he and has much to teach us about natural farming.
If you're interest in permaculture, and growing food and animals in a natural and organic environment that good for them and people, you'll want to watch other "Polyface Farm" videos shown here on Youtube.
If you think you cannot afford locally grown foods, think about your cable bill, buying new clothes, DVD's etc... Some people still cannot afford it, but most of you who gripe its too expensive can. Its a change in lifestyle, living within your own means and making a decision that can better you and your families lives.
Pasture raised, grass fed and humanly treated animals should be the only way america farms. It may cost a little more to buy, but americans health and animal welfare will make up for it 3 fold! My eyes have been opened! I have taken a vow to myself to never buy feed lot, confined animals or their products. Keep up the GREAT work!!!
Salatin wrote a book called "Everything I Want To Do is Illegal." It is a good read and proves that point very well. The laws are written, not to make our food safer, but to require so much infrastructure that guys like Salatin can't do business easily.
He isn't a free ranger, his herds (and flocks) are tightly controlled. That way each square foot of pasture is maximized. With a free range operation the animal graze willy nilly and you need a lot of room to keep them from flogging certain areas. Other areas remain under grazed. You should get out his web sight, its really interesting stuff.
Thanks for posting this. I am a big fan of Joel Salatin, he is a hero! He loves and cares for his animals and he loves what he does, that is the key to his success.
that awesome now get all the other farmer do this an it might help reduce pollution from all of thou things they use an this guy is a smart farmer him self he doing be like mother nature will do or something like that but any way that a good idea a way have farm animals cool!
WOW! Freakin' wow! This man is a true genius! This Leonardo Da Vinci of agriculture figured this all out by himself, while back in Washington, D.C., we have jackasses doing everything possible to destroy the Earth and kill us all off. How insane is that?!
Nice?!!! Fuck you, asshole! Most politicians ARE jackasses -- in politics solely for their own personal gain, not for the welfare of the country and the globe.
And below you go "????" to a positively-made comment. Why in the fuck are you even checking out the DiscoveryNetworks channel anyway, having such a closed mind as you do? Hmm, Douchebag? Fuck you!
"did you just spaz at someone for saying the word nice?"
spaz?! Yeah. I did. What's it to you? I said what I thought was a relevant & appropriate commentary on how those at the top that are supposed to be making good, sound decisions on our behalf, but are nothing but a bunch of stupid idiots hellbent on doing everything they can in the name of greed & profit instead of long-term sustainability, and I get a sarcastic little "nice" as a comment from a clueless little piss ant.
This man is great! I believe that this is the future of our planet Earth!!! Otherwise we will disappear if not 2012 a few years later!!!

the biggest roadblock to this kind of farming is the State and federal government.

ya see!? why can more farmers be like him?
i don't mind his product because the animals had a peace full life. unlike the more machine run farms. those animals suffer from birth to death.

Yes, food like this DOES taste better, is much more HEALTHY, is SUSTAINABLE and good for the environment.
All my food comes from sources like this. It may cost a tiny bit more but it's WELL WORTH IT for me.
I'll never give up my meat and I'll never go back to that factory farmed genetically modified, anti-biotic filled SHIT ever again.
I'm glad it's becoming more and more mainstream each year.

I AGREE but capitalizing WORDS that are important in a SENTENCE do not make your point any STRONGER.

"WHAT?"
You're not very wordy, are you? One word in this post. "????" in another. How long does it take you to come with such rich prose?

You sound awfully stressed and tense for such a good-doer.
No offense, but I figured hippies to be more relaxed.

Every farm needs a king, but I will say that choosing grass was a questionable decision, considering its poor decision making skills.
