I just returned from a Disney cruise that featured him. Undeniably talented, he filled his acts with ultra-right-wing Republican Evangelical Christian content. He even chided an unmarried couple that was sharing a cabin, in public!
Also, the usual gay-bashing, Mormon-bashing, anti-evolution cant, "blessing" people every few minutes.
@polemius01 Why not? Sounds like one heck of a good time. The sharing a cabin thing...why not chide them? And the gay-bashing, Mormon-bashing, anti-evolution stuff make it memorable.
@polemius01 actually no I am not being "facetious" as you put it. Our country was built upon a firm belief in the bible and a great grasp on morals. It is refreshing to see people willing to stand up today and speak for what they believe in and know to be true, especially as this is what we as a country were founded on.
@QUIGONJINN777 Ah, you're of the deluded, "Our Founding Fathers were actually Evangelical Christians" ilk. The Founders were nothing of the sort, despite the fact that some (only some) spoke in religious language.
Your cafeteria-style interpretation of the Bible is only a vehicle that allows you to express your "a priori" bias against lgbt persons and straight couples who choose not to get married,
Basing your life on fairy tales is childish. Kindly grow up.
@polemius01 It is sad when people like you do not know your heritage. If you look to our laws, they line up near perfectly with the laws given in the bible. At least, they used to. This was before people lost their way and have begun trying to do what they think is best. If you do research, you can easily see the strict basis of our nation in Christian beliefs. There is a reason all our currency has the words "In God We Trust" on them. Learn your history.
@QUIGONJINN777 Pt 1: The US laws line up with the Bible only because that's how you wish to see it. Your ignorance of the Age of Reason, the era that brought forth the Declaration and the Constitution, while it may have shared some language points with your King James Bible (and King James was gay, lol), were based on reason, not superstition. Franklin and Jefferson, among others, were Deists.
@QUIGONJINN777 Pt 2: The currency has "In God We Trust" because it's a slogan from some earlier era in time, not from the Deists Founders.
Your superstitios beliefs bring you (probably weillingly) to religious bigotry, to hatred of lgbt persons, to hatred of Mormons (who are also homophobes, like you) and, probably, to racism as well.
Learn YOUR history; hatred, bigotry and superstition always lose.
@polemius01 Part 1 First off I gotta say this. Check your grammar and spelling. Arguments fall apart when there are so many errors in those areas. Second, check up on some of the documents this country is based around, for example Declaration of Independence) and then tell me you don't see God or the bible popping up ever so often. If you go to DC, images and verses from the bible can be found everywhere. The 10 commandments are engraved in the Supreme Court courtroom. You can't miss them.
@QUIGONJINN777 The presence of these old superstitions in documents and plastered all over Washington, DC doesn't make them any less irrelevant to modern Americans. The Bible is a great text, with much in it to admire, but, when it provides people like you with the opportunity to be hate-filled bigots, then the Bible is being misused.
You are nothing but an idolator who worships a book. You make the Bible and the USA into dead things through your ignorant superstitions.
@polemius01 Part 2 Do research. It is not hard to find that each founding father desired a moral basis in the bible for our country. Benjamin Franklin was easily the least religious of all these men, and he still knew that without a firm base in good, the country would go down a road better left untraveled. We are using the guidelines left for us less and less, and look what is happening to our country. We are still a great nation, but we are losing power and only the blind would deny it.
@QUIGONJINN777 Of course, the US is in decline, but not because of some magic inherent in the biblical texts. All of those God-fearing multinational corporations are responsible. Go and wave your KJV at them, and leave us good, beautiful lgbtq persons live our full, happy lives without your ignorant fear-filled hatred.
You and the hate-mongering bigot Ron Pearson can go rot in your little fantasy world together.
@polemius01 To go against what it says to go against is not misusing the book. Misuse of the book is big religion, which will twist it until it is no longer recognizable. I love God, despise religion. This is one reason I do not get along well with Mormons. They claim to be Christian, and while the base ideas may be similar, the way it is acted upon is totally different. I know it will never happen, but if everyone did actually try to live as guided in the bible, life would be better.
@QUIGONJINN777 Pt 1: You're doing nothing but confirming for You Tube that the your interpretation of the Bible allows you to enjoy hate-filled Evangelical performers. You people who claim to be "Christians" are nothing but fascist hate-mongers.
Fir the billionth time: "to go against what is says to go against"; the Bible says nothing about the orientation of homosexuality, and its modern understanding.
@polemius01 As much fun as this is, I can see you are too far absorbed by the world's ideas to see the truth of what I am saying. Do some research on your own and learn the truth. I have work to do, as unlike many I have decent work ethics, so must call our argument to an end. However, I will give you a little advice for the future. Avoid the Ad Hominem fallacy in your arguments. It makes you sound like a ten year old internet troll.
@QUIGONJINN777 Pt 1: Oh, how patriarchal, "I...call our arguemtn to an end." Sorry, buster, but you haven't even given an argument; you've merely parroted right-wing Evangelical propoganda. Your errors:
1. "Too much absorbed by the world's ideas" is balderdash on your part. The Bible is as much a part of "the world's ideas" as is philosophy.
2. "Do some reserch": My PhD in Theology indicates that I've done the research, and your 'Bible-based America is a sad dream (and bigoted to boot).
3. "Decent work ethic": getting a PhD and using it as a full-time tenured professor and author may not fit into your definition of "work ethic," but it does for most other people.
4. "Ad hominem fallacy," as part of the pratuitous "advice." Well, here's the pot calling the kettle black. And, pointing out the characteristics of Fundies is not ad hominem, merely identification (none of which you disagreed with).
@QUIGONJINN777 Pt 3: Infantilizing someone who disagrees with a childlike approach to Scripture is not an ad hominem fallacy in your mind!?
Really, I suppose the Bible is very good for you because it helps you to avoid your own problems and bigotry; you just point to the Bible and don't have to deal with what's really going on in your life.
@QUIGONJINN777 Ah, the Fundie QUIG... breaks the commandment against lying about ending his postings through his unoriginal response to my kind act of pointing out his willful ignorance. This, after his sobbing charge of an "ad hominem fallacy" (a usual ploy of YouTube right-wingnuts).
If you cannot tell the depth and breadth of someone's mind after he has taken the time to share it with you, then you've had your nose in your book-idol for much too long.
@polemius01 Really? "An evil bigot?" You really are too funny. He stands up for what he knows to be true, what our country was founded on, and for this he is "evil?" You have a very interesting view of things. Also, I do not associate myself with the right wing. I merely follow what I know to be true, and act accordingly. Well, you know what they say. "Don't argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level." So I will leave before I say something I regret from speaking with you.
@QUIGONJINN777 "What he knows to be true." How easy you make it! No one "knows" truth; one just knows her/his culturally-conditioned approach to the world and to mystery. When one thinks that his/her approach is THE truth, then the evil bigotry begins. Thanks for alerting us that you, as well as arch-bigot Pearson, are part of the problem, and not part of the solution.
And...we haven't been "speaking"; and you claim that I'M an idiot!
@polemius01 Amazing how all your text has become is switching between insulting me and insulting Ron. Also, the best definition of "truth" is what lines up with what is actually in the universe, as would be seen through the eyes of a perfectly unbiased judge. There has never been a section of the bible that has been proven false, and it has actually helped us in attempting to discover certain historical objects, such as lost civilizations. If it were proven wrong I would leave it in the dirt.
1. "There has never been a section of the bible that has been proven false." That's because the Bible doesn't present a logical philosophical system that can be dealt with through a system of proofs. It is a book of belief. One either believes or doesn't; there is no "proof" required. you believe that an invisible being without vocal chords created through speech. It's a ridiculous belief, but, it's your to have.
1. (cont'd) A person with some intelligence would phrase the question thus: There has never been a tenet of biblical belief that has been proven to be based on fact."
2. The Bible is as unbiased as all of the Republican candidates and their followers.
3. Archeology has helped people to understand the Bible, not the other way around. I don't care to speculate on what you would "leave in the dirt.
4. No insult to your or Pearson's bigotry; just identification.
@polemius01 I must say your comedy has so far made me laugh more than the video we started this argument on in the first place. Ever heard of the Hittites? Prior to their rediscovery by modern archeologists, they were believed to have not existed. People used this as a weapon against the bible. Then, events in the bible were used to locate them. Suddenly that particular attack stopped. Why? Because it had been used to prove something previously thought imaginary.
@QUIGONJINN777 If you can be said to have the power of reasoning, it's circular, at best. As I stated in my previous email, scientific archeology helps to understand the Bible, not the other way around. Now, what about the "Nephilim?"
Your use of the term "weapon" indicates your fanatical irrationality.
Your postings are not funny; rather, they are a sad, sad reminder to us about the bigotry, ignorance and anti-intellectualism that fanatical "beliefs" can cause.
@polemius01 I have always had the belief system that I follow what is most true. If someone could show me something better than the bible, I would follow that. As is, nothing has ever come so close to being perfect for such a length of time. Also, the argument was used to bring destruction to an object, in this case an idea. It would qualify for the term "weapon,"
@QUIGONJINN777 Pt 1: More irrationality from the individual who shares Ron Pearson's hate-filled bigotry.
"Most true" is an illogical statement. Something is either "true" or "false." "Belief" is neither true nor false. Only things that can be empirically verifiable can be said to exist.
"Better than the Bible." "Better" is an individual evaluation. Lots of things can be said to be "better" for people than the Bible; philosophy, for instance.
@QUIGONJINN777 Pt 2: So nothing is "better" than a book that endorses killing, slavery and stoning? You've got really low standards (if any).
The fact that you claim you would "follow" anything "better" indicates that you don't have the ability for individual cognition and action. I feel sorry for your slaves.
"Perfect for such a length of time." St. Anselm of Canterbury mandates "perfect" as eternal, so, your characterization is not even up to Scholasticism's standards.
@QUIGONJINN777 Pt 3: "An object." I suppose those who argued that the Bible was flawed before certain archeological discoveries wished to destroy every "object," i.e., every printed Bible in every language. Where is your proof of that? Or, they merely wished to point out that the Bible is not always verifiable empirically. Ahem, the Nephilim?
You and Ron Pearson remain hate-filled homophobes.
@polemius01 Philosophy? Better? Now that's worth a laugh. Philosophy is the study of things we cannot know. The second it is proved one way or the other, it is no longer philosophy. Calling it an actual field is a tremendous error in itself. Also, what are you so confused about regarding the sons of Seth? Regarding the actions the bible "endorses," you are sadly mistaken. Read the thing before you speak of it. Nowhere does it say for us to keep slaves, or kill, or stone. Read it.
1. "Philosophy" is the study of all human endeavors from a rational outlook (something you don't share). The branch of philosophy that studies, as you so quaintly put it, "things we cannot know" is called "metaphysics."
2. More quaintness: "the second it is proved," is so cutely facile. If you're referring to "empiricism," that branch of science developed later, and, has a philosophical underpinning all its own.
2 (cont'd): Physics, for example, was entirely philosophical until empiricism. Aristotle even wrote "The Physics," and "Metaphysics" as philosophical texts. You don;t know what you're talking about when you address philosophy.
3. You keep dodging the archeological point of the "Nephilim" reference. You're a dishonest person. Either address it or admit that there is no proof of them and your Hittite reference was a desperate ploy.
4. On slavery and child-beating. Your claim that the Bible doesn't endorse such things is another indication of your basic dishonesty. The last sentence of your posting is either written from ignorance ("Read it" yourself), or, an outright lie.
You and Rom Pearson: hate-mongers, bigots, liars, and not funny at all.
@QUIGONJINN777 Pt 2: Of course the Mormons aren't Christian. Although they use elements of Christianity, their theological interpretation takes them out of the realm of Christianity. They are about as Christians as Christians are Jewish.
But you probably hate Jews too, although you give them money so the "Rapture" can take place in Megiddo.
