Thanks for the rapid reply daquake, it's much appreciated. I wish to learn this great tool someday, this is the future of film/cinema. But the price tag of $36,000 is just too much for me :-)
No schools teach this yet, though one in New Zealand is thinking about it. No, you don't need to know C. It may help with how you think about building an agent. But they have their own relational fuzzy-logic system for the agents.
Nice video. I thought massive is a lot easier than Maya or 3ds max? I too got interested with this software when I knew all my favorite movies (Lord of the rings, Chronicles of narnia, the ant bully, king kong, etc ) used it. The only limiting factor why I'm still not learning it is its colossal price tag.
Amen. The learning curve to do basic stuff isn't too bad. I had the prebuilt agent doing almost what I wanted within a few hours. Where the hard stuff comes in is actually modifying the agents' brains and their animations.
(daquake) When modifying agents' brains, is it done in code or moving the characters and saving it in the timeline? Is there a trial version of this software that we can practice on? even if the rendering process is limited to a few minutes or splashed with a watermark? Thanks.
So far as I know, there is no trial software. Also, there is truly no timeline unless you consider the animation loops a timeline. It is done in code, a huge fuzzy logic based brain arrayed in a GUI with dozens of commands filtered through dozens of subcommands. If interested in trial software though, call Massive up and ask. They are some of the most friendly and helpful people I know. They'll give you the facts, straight up.
(daquake) Do you need knowledge of C programming to be able to manipulate the characters through code? And you said there is no timeline, but are you able to embed the characters to a video background and vice versa? Is there a school out here in California that teaches about this cool program? ;-) too many questions...my apologies.
I used Massive Prime (http://www.massivesoftware.com). It isn't an easy software - but once you know the basics in a couple weeks, you can use the ready built agents to do any number of things. I'll be posting more in the next few weeks.
