The reason this ending is retarded is because Hardcore fucked up. The called ending to the match was for Hardcore Holly to smash Crash over the head, but time would run out before the three count so Crash would retain the title. That's why the ref never counts to three, JR and King both think Crash won (JR improvises with "He got the shoulder up!" ) and Crash walks off with the belt. Hardcore came in a few seconds too soon and the whole thing got messed up, so they changed the ending on the fly

It wasnt a championship scramble...that didnt exist....similar idea but pinfalls could be attained by anyone at anytime...and this particular match was solely for the Hardcore title....play the older smackdowns (1-3) this match is an option

On the subject of retarded endings, does anyone remember Roddy Piper vs. Buff Bagwell's boxing match in 1999? I think it was Bash at the Beach, but it could have been one of the other summer PPVs. It was supposed to be boxing, but Buff won with a Blockbuster from the top rope and a pinfall. It was extra crappy because it was a PPV, so fans really got screwed out of $30.

I think that whenever they had multi-man matches like these for the Hardcore Title, they suspended the 24/7 rule before the event and until the next night on RAW. They did that for the 6-man invitational at Unforgiven 2000, so I'm assuming that also happened in this one, too.
