This song basically means that roses are not symoblized only for love (or for love at all) becuase when someone dies we generally put roses on their grave. So bascially the song is illustrating that roses are not made for love but as a sign of grieving or mourning. and btw this song is very beautiful and it brings out so many emotions. we lived and died where roses grew.

Actually Carnations are usually known as the death flower. But yeah people do put roses on graves. But then again people put lilies or tulips or whatever they want on graves. Lol this is messing my head up. :)
