Quick question...Im assuming u have to take a lie detector test b4 u become a pilot ...is this true? i assume so because anyone can b a pilot and what if... a terrorist wants to be one, he can be one,...so do they make u take a lie detector and ask u questions like that?
@150pilot YE but my point is...anyone can be a pilot...what if a terrorist comes to USA and pretends and shyt and gets his pilot license? how do they determine if ur not a terrorist and ur not going for a pilot license so you can cause destruction...its easy for a terrorist to become a pilot...but how do they know?
Well... you need a private pilot's certificate. Flying into the East River airspace isn't all that "hard". Just takes planning and communications with ATC. La Guardia Approach was kind enough to give me the clearances I needed to get the footage I needed to make this video.
Thanks, I guess. Can't figure out what you don't like about Neil Diamond though. I think "Coming To America" is perfect for New York City. New York City is the iconic melting pot of the United States.
The minimum altitude is usually 1000 feet above the ground. When talking to ATC though they will usually keep you in their airspace and up at 1500 feet.
No. I plan two hour legs so I had enough gas to get from Slatington (69N near Allentown) to the Hudson, fly aroound and then head north to Orange County (KMGJ), New York and then gas up for the trip home.
I just did a similar flight yesterday night visibility was only 5mi haze but the views were still awesome! In the past I just stayed on the Hudson River, I had no idea what I was missing. Great job on the video and nice 150! Where do you fly out of?
The first shots (start up and taxiing) I used a tri-pod. For the most part I used this gizmo called monsterpod. If you google it you'll see what I'm talking about. They had a website but I'm not sure what happened to it.
Thanks! It was a fun flight. Hard to believe one can fly up that side of the island (while talking to ATC of course). The sight of Manhatten from the east in the early morning was awesome.
16R did play a part in the opening. I love the way they do that in the movie. I only wish I could get some air to air shots of myself. That would be pretty cool too but I can't be in two places at once though.
Wow, you're on the ball on this one. Videotaping and flying through New York City... Awesome attention to detail, putting the scenery on the video to the music...the boat and the flag? Very enjoyable to watch. Definitely a keeper!

There is no lie detector requirement.

Non US Citizens are subject to a background check. I'm not sure what that entails.

Yeah, I live here in Manhattan. I just don't like Diamond much. How low are you allowed to fly these days, so close to Manhattan?

Excellent video. Fly a 150 myself. Love it! Never been able to capture the essence of it on video..

man I admire this video very much. It makes me wonder if it's worth it to become a professional
pilot, when you can have so much fun being a private pilot.

Looks like you got some inspiration from 16 right on the intro. Enjoyed the editing and sync with the lyrics. Great video.
