  • You lot arguing the toss about who did what - sod off. I'm watching this just to see how much better the coverage was in 1997. The only criticism of any election coverage should be anything to do with Jeremy Vine!

  • Disgraceful (well typical for Youtube comments pages) that the comments here have turned into a political mud-slinging contest. I watch these videos because I find elections fascinating and I am too young to remember this particular one.

  • the day the country surrenderd to the ravages of socialism!!

  • @angliaknightident what socialism? New Labour isn't particularly socialist.

  • The 97 election one of the worst for the conservatives but the thing is labour did okay for a few months then they just fucked up so much im a bit mad that the conservatives did not win in 2010 but still labour are finished

  • What an awfull night, britain would never be the same again after Bliars diabolical misrule

  • @aeronuk1 He didn't misrule, Blair was actually a very good PM, he was correct on allmost all accounts except the Iraq war. He improved education and the NHS incredibly.

  • @ToaJoe Our manufacturing industry declined more under Blair than under Mrs Thatcher. He let in five million immigrants into our already overcrowded island. He corrupted the political system with spin and slease. He nearly bankrupt the economy by failing to regulate the banking industry properly. He practically turned us into a police state, I could go on and on but youtube isn't really the place for political debate since you only get 500 characters to reply.

  • @ToaJoe Didn't misrule there where 20,000 less beds for the NHS and 9,000 less teachers im sorry but a large majority of people thought blair was rubbish at the job.

  • it's interesting because all of the computer screens in the studio are CRTs.

  • Less than 48 hours until the destiny of the United Kingdom becomes clear.

  • is the opening theme tune going to be the same arthur by rick wakemen. i hope it is but does anyone know

  • Now this is how to cover an election! I only wish we could do it like this here in the States!

    Thanks for posting, friend!

  • lol.. on a serious tone, unfortunetly not. The unpopularity of the government matchs that of 1997, but Cameron has not the support of Blair... If Cameron wins in 2010, it will be a Labour loss, not a Conservative victory...

  • I think your right at best a Conservative Majority of 11-20, but its looking like a Hung parilament

  • No, polls suggest a hung parliament. Sorry.

  • unfortunately not. however we can dream :)

  • yea looking like a hung parliament.....which means 2 elections in 2010!

  • Not really, DC could hang on for another year and hold one in 2011. I do not see a tory landside anywhere! its more like the 1992 election!

  • @gopconservative78 I'd expect a Conservative majority of around a handful of seats (20 odd).

  • @Rascasseman I sure hope so, but I'm unsure its going to be damn close....the debates could swing it to the Tories

  • @gopconservative78 forgot to add that is a completely unbiased view! I'm very much a floating voter at the moment but I'm confident nonetheless that that will be the result!

  • beautiful

  • I hope BBC parliament shows this sooner or later

  • @CelticCymru BBC Parliament did actually show the entire 1997 election night through a while back, actually. I know because I watched it. *am sad*

  • I want this version of Rick Wakeman's "Arthur" :D!

  • you clearly dont have a clue. New Labour was pretty much the opposite of its old socialist days.

  • Make no mistake they are still marxists. For the past fourty years (and particularly the last 12) the left have been using the subversive tool of cultural marxism ie, overthrowing society from within by destroying it's cultural pillars.

The Italian revolutionary Antonio Gramsci wrote that western society could be overthrown by destroying it's pillars of religion, the family, nationalism etc. Along with divisive multiculturalism and feminism it's more than any society can withstand.

  • hahaha! your comment is too vague to possibly even take seriously. oh and i'm sure the country is in the state its in due to feminism! haha, good one.

  • Hah! Blair was almost the complete opposite of Marxism.

  • This 2010 election will be better than 1997. Labour will have only around 150 seats .

  • Hi ServantofSet -

I cant find the 1992 UK election coverage - only the USA election coverage.

Can you give me the link? Sorry to be stupid but am new to this!

  • Frank skinner in a chopper, how 90s lol

  • anyone got complete coverage of this election night's coverage?

  • cameron will win

  • If you are 'not' a Liberal in your 20's,you have no heart.

If you 'are' a Liberal in your 30's,you have no brian.

    W.S.CHURCHHILL

A great quote from a great man.

  • I'm 32, and I've never had a brian. Do they sell them at Kwik Save?

  • The worst thing i can say about New Labour is this.

I was there cheering when they won & i was a first time voter.

Now i have lived under Socilism, mass immigration for political gian, mass taxes etc etc. 30 yrs old and despise Labour, really really despise it & them.

I AM NOW A TORY,& CAN'T INVISAGE EVER VOTING LABOUR IF I LIVE TO BE 100.

    I don't think i am alone.

  • if the Tories had won in 1997 there would be no minimum wage, it would be illegal to openly speak of homosexuality positively in schools and Scotland and Wales would not have the powers to govern themselves that they do today.

I am not a Labour voter but Labour at least stand nearer to what I believe is morally right than the Tories do.

  • binstig is quite right. Unfortunately, for this country and MOST of our people, Labour on economic policy was TOO TORY, "held hostage" by fear...

the Media, more than the Tories. When Vince Cable warned of economic disaster to come, he was derided as "gloomy". Now, those who would let everything rip in pursuit of their greed are getting excited that the Tories will get back in. Nothing against Mr. Cameron personally, but I fear - things could actually get worse. Be careful who you vote in!

  • Turnout was only 72% in Sedgefield, not 82%.

  • poltical shouting matches? boring lol whereas graphics r rly thrilling arent they? roll on 2010 cant wait to watch election nite - they better not stop doing it!!!

  • Which is to say..It would be so nice if there was more comments about the historical context and the graphics/presentation and less about general political arguments that could be rehashed endlessly somewhere else (like a politics blog) It gets so the rah rah I like the Tories rah rah I like the other lot overshadows the real point of these clips being here...sigh

  • Man..I'm gonna get red minused for this..but I watch the Election clips for historical/tv history value, it's kind of saddening how so many partisan political types use the comment sections of them to propagandize for their parties. These clips are here for historical interest, do you guys *have* to turn it into stupid political shouting matches? It's boring.

  • How ironic now you say that - you have 8 green marks

  • @shadowcatphaser For a while I turned comments off because of this.

  • Why can't they release a series of box sets of the full coverage for each election?

  • hey slimes23 - do you know if anyone has full coverage of the 97 election night?

  • All of the 1992 coverage is now up and the guy who posted it also has '97 but he's not planning to upload it for a while.

  • @SERVANTOFSET Where is it?

  • @tony39435 Be great to see wouldn't it

  • Brown will win in 2010

  • Brown has a better chance of winning ms universe then the next election

  • I think the Tories are in for a big shock. They are going to win but I think they will be lucky to get single figure majority of even that.

  • Nope, Brown will win 2010!

  • What a dark day for Britain.

Little did we know it would be the most anti British and corrupt Government ever.

  • no dead were unburied. Thats fantasy

  • The good old days I will never forget no matter how bad Labour what absolute bastards the tories are...

  • Yes it was. Just compare the quality of life for the British people in 1979 and again in 1997. Lets hope the Tories can do the same again

  • If only we knew!! My god we were duped!

  • I remember being so excited that night seeing Tory after Tory get kicked out after so long in power. Guess we'll have the same feeling next year.

  • What is the name of this song and composer so that I can a copy of this great music????

  • Election 97/Arthur by Rick Wakeman

  • hope they do that on 2010

  • I think youre find that between 1974-1979 the economy grew by 1.9% per year on average and unemployment never exceeded 1.6 million. I also dont remember seeing homeless people in Southern towns like you did from the 80s onwards i guess its just perpespective

  • Frank Skinner = Legend

  • If only we knew then, what we know now.

  • What we know now scares me, the Tories will take power again, Cameron will drag s into the abyss.

  • I agree with you completely. Its a very scarey thought I mean normally when you go into an election you have oppositions but theres no oposition. Its scarey that their might be some people out there who will just blindly vote Tory without looking at their policies which they dont have!

  • Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, though a hard loyal party member, Labour has been quite weak with regard ending the time bomb economics that the Tories used to get rich quick. My real concern is what they will do if in the next election they win, they will "let the market sort itself out" and "mass unemployment will be a small price to pay to lower inflation" and people who want a job should "get on their bike". Thatcher was a tyrant with leaderships skills, Cameron is a tyrant without.

  • I have grown up through Labour and it is nowhere near as bad as bad as the horror stories I hear of people growing up under Thatcher. Labour may have caused economical problems for the people of this country, but it is a useless Tory party that would truly paralyze the country.

  • in 2009/2010 the Tories will be back at the latest polls of a Majority of 100-110! Gordon is finished and the Fat Lady is singing!

  • absolutely Cameron is the next PM I know it, you know it and Cameron knows it

  • P-R-E-C-I-S-E-L-Y

As the political system in the UK can be described in LAW as an ELECTIVE DICTATORSHIP!

As that is precisely what it is:

    A BROWN Dictatorship

    A CAMERON Dictatorship

    A CLEGG Dictatorship

    Every one a FREEMASON

From BULLINGDON at Oxford to control of the country by support from ROTHSCHILD

It was either a MANDELSON or an OSBORNE

Remember the meeting in CORFU - the holiday home of the ROTHSCHILDs that control UK politics

  • labour and brown will really have to turn it around to even stand a chance to the tories next election.

  • Hopefully Obama can stop by and inspire the masses....

Or, we can be pragmatic and hope that the Lib Dems will gain on both sides and force a hung parliament.

  • that could be a possibility as well, but looking at this pragmatiaclly, I don't see how torries don't win, hung or majority. For better or for worse New Labour's reign is probably coming to a close

  • Yikes...well at least we can turn Canada around...

  • The Tories will smoke Labour in 2009/2010 with a workable majority of 45-55

  • thatcher would have won

  • Would she hell.

  • no.... new labour just had to adopt her policys just to get in power.... of course she wouldnt have

  • Yeh like the minimum wage, devolution and Lords reform...

    Durrr....

  • and whats your point?

  • Well Thatcher didn't believe in any of those things but those were the policies that people wanted from Labour in 1997.

  • i think u will find that they just wanted anyone except the torys.... new labour had to adopt thatchers policys to become electable.... blair himself would agree that..... and as for new policys well look up what thatchers last manifesto was all about.... it was geared towards health and education blair just continued with that

  • If only Labour could keep it up...it would still be that moment...

  • too bad tories are ahead, some by double digits, in poupluar opinion polls, for better or for worse, we are probably looking at a Prime Minister Cameron in just a couple of months.

  • Comment removed

  • Still good to remember the tories are and always will be bastards

  • But it will be the tories that have to clean up after a labour government, as usual.

  • lol

  • Damn Blair looks hella young. Wha happun?

  • Must've gotten stressed over the years ;)

  • I love the painted smile at 9:30.

  • Cameraman a bit confused about zoom at 1:33.

  • Thanks a million for adding this!!!!!!!!!!!!
