Personally I'm in favour of the treaty, but I agree it should really be put to a referendum. That is a matter for individual governments though, not the EU. Hence why Ireland is still going to hold one.

Once they have done this, they can then come back and do the same again!

You may not be able to vote but you can make a HUGE difference. We have a small population so every vote is worth hundreds of EU ctizens.

Personally I'm in favour of the treaty, but I agree it should really be put to a referendum. That is a matter for individual governments though, not the EU. Hence why Ireland is still going to hold one.

While it is true that the USA is on a slippery slide toward statism, America does have the "buffer" of a rational Aristotelian constitution based upon individual life, liberty, property and the pursuit of one's own happiness thanks to its Founding Fathers. The EU, however, is based upon the subordination of the individual ( be it a person or nation) to the collective - the root of all dictatorships.

Unconstitutional?! The European Union has developed its own currency, Parliament, Supreme Court, borders, passport, anthem, flag, laws, intelligence agency, police force and now we add to the list a Presidency.
It may not be consitutional in the strictest legal sense but it is indisuputable that such changes warrant a referendum.
