A screen test is a filmed audition to see how well the actor plays the part and interacts with the other actors. This is actually a wardrobe test. Which is to see how the clothes look with the actors, lighting, etc. So no need for recording sound (most of the time). They are following direction.

And No they weren't together. Though they do seem like it. Jimmy was that good of an actor and I bet Lois Smith couldn't help it around him. :)
